From a safeguarding perspective this creates three areas of risk – Content: exposure to illegal, inappropriate or harmful material. Contact: being subject to harmful on-line interaction with other users. Conduct: personal on-line behaviour that increases the likelihood of, or causes harm. From a learning delivery and inspection perspective we all have a twin safeguarding duty to protect and educate learners/staff in the use of technology and to have appropriate systems in place to intervene and deal with any incident. In addition to regular Prevent and local threat updates (see: volume 25 March 2021), HLC also supports our partners with e- safety checks, advice, and training. R-EVOLUTION CYCLE CHARITY...R-evolution are known for being a cyclecharity who work in the East Riding.However, they are mainly focused onthe training and development of peoplefrom disadvantaged communitiesacross the whole of the Humber area.They provide accredited training, lifecoaching and employability passportwork, to help people find a purpose andmove into employment.

They started in 2014 and now havebases in Cottingham, Bridlington, Hull,Grimsby and Scunthorpe. They run aseries of community projects utilisingtheir two main training anddevelopment programmes, which arebased around local skills gaps - lightengineering (cycle mechanics) andhorticulture. They have been workingwith HLC for much of their existenceand this relationship has helped themto deliver personalised intensivesupport to their trainees.

In addition, 1500 bikes are donated tothem each year and followingrefurbishment from their team, theydistribute the majority through theirbike libraries in schools and workplacesto promote active travel.

They conduct training, repairs, second-hand bike sales and engagement for thegeneral community and have their owncycle race academy and a fleet ofadapted bikes for hire from Bridlington.

Their latest project is the opening of acycle facility in Trinity Indoor Market,Hull, a horticulture project and weekendcycle facility at Normandy Hall inScunthorpe, and a new workshop inGrimsby.

They are recruiting trainees now for boththe cycle and horticulture programmesand they’d be grateful if you could steerany candidates their way.

The Hull Community Led LocalDevelopment (CLLD) programmefunded by ESIF, also offers support tobusinesses and buddingentrepreneurs located in eligible areasof Hull. One of the CLLD projectsproviding this support is the Business& IP Centre at Hull Central Library.

It's for anyone with a business ideathat they wish to explore; the self-employed and businesses that needsome help and support to survive,develop or grow.

•Specialist business information andresources on setting up and running abusiness•Guidance on protecting a brand,product or idea - intellectual property•Expert staff on hand to discussbusiness ideas with in confidence •Help to access and use specialistbusiness resources and tools•One to one advice with expertpartners •Packages of support and small grantsavailable until 30th June 2021

CHANGE, TALKS ABOUT HOW THEY

ARE HELPING YOUNG PEOPLE ACCESSTHE CREATIVE INDUSTRIES....Since its launch the GoodwinDevelopment Trust's Create toChanges programme (C2C) hasworked with more than 150 youngpeople and helped 87 of thoseprogress into employment, self-employment, education or training.

Its success is based upon threecomponents, which are thebusinesses, the recruitment processand myself and Kelsie, as thededicated key workers. You cannothave one without the other but I willargue that the businesses are themain contributing factor! They provideamazing opportunities, that in turnnaturally create a great recruitmentplatform for young, ambitious people.

Over the four years that this projecthas been running we have workedwith 100s of businesses and createdvaluable relationships throughout Hulland East Riding. During ourrecruitment process we invite thebusinesses in to talk to theparticipants we are working withabout the opportunities they areoffering.

In addition, they also run workshopswith us. We recently had Hull TruckTheatre Company run a workshop onhow to write a successful applicationand attend interviews. We often hearthat this is the best part of theprogramme, with people saying ‘whydon’t they get these people intoschools’, ‘I never knew we had somany opportunities in Hull,' ‘if itwasn’t for C2C I would never haveknown about all of these amazingbusinesses operating in Hull.'

Whilst working with the businessesthe participants are able to showcasetheir abilities and if/when they'retaken on, the young people are thenhelping to support the growth of thelocal industry. This has been verysuccessful with many of theemployers coming back to us againand again, spreading the word aboutC2C within their networks.
