Customer Success Story JUVENTUS F.C. OUTFLANKS THE HACKERS WITH ACSIA CHALLENGE Whilst being acknowledged as one of the greatest football clubs in the world, Juventus F.C. is also a billion dollar business with all the complexity of managing any commercial organisation of this size. It retains vast amounts of sensitive data relating to its professional players, collecting, synthesizing and analysing a huge range and volume of data around training, nutrition, performance and tactics to gain a competitive sporting advantage. It also holds significant volumes of corporate information relating to players contracts, sponsorships, partnerships, supporters information, credit card data etc.. Off the field it has diversified interests including hotels, healthcare, merchandising, ticketing, etc., that also generate large volumes of sensitive data, which can be leveraged and monetized by cyber criminals. A breach due to Inadequate security measures would have huge implications for Juventus, their customers, partners and employees. The rapid increase in cyber-attacks is evident on a daily basis with traditional IT security products that focus on network perimeter defences being bypassed at an alarming rate. CYBER & SPORTS ORGANISATIONS A July 2020 report by the UK's National Cyber Security Centre, "The Cyber Threat to Sports Organisations" found that the cyber threat to the UK sports sector was significant. At least 70% of the sports organisations it surveyed had experienced at least one cyber incident or harmful cyber activity. This compares to 32% across general UK business, according to the DCMS annual breaches survey. Around 30% of incidents resulted in direct financial damage to the victims, with costs varying considerably from under £500 through to over £100,000 per incident. The average cost was more than £10,000 per incident. Beyond direct financial costs, 41% of breaches or attacks resulted in new measures being put in place to prevent further incidents. THREATS The UK's National Cyber Security Centre's report has identified key threats to sports organisations: Business Email Compromise (BEC) is the biggest cyber threat. Attackers seek to gain access to official business email addresses, which they then use to engineer such things as fraudulent payments or data theft. Cyber-enabled fraud includes mandate fraud, CEO fraud, conveyancing fraud and invoice fraud. Across UK business, £2.3 billion was reportedly lost to payment diversion fraud alone, in 2018/19. 75% of sports organisations have received fraudulent emails, text messages or phone calls. Ransomware is a type of malware that prevents you from accessing your computer (or data that is stored on your computer). Whilst ransomware is less common than BEC and cyber-enabled fraud, the business impact of ransomware attacks can be disastrous. Approximately 40% of attacks on sports organisations involved malware. A quarter of these involved ransomware.
