We would like to extend a big thank you to
Kirsten Tankersley for her countless
hours put into chairing the 1st Biennial
Social and Raffle. All of her time dedicated
to this event was evident; it was a
wonderful evening filled with fun, food,
treats, and prizes. Thank you also to
Christie Emerson and the Art Lit
volunteers for organizing the Art Walk.
The team of volunteers transformed the
school hallways into a museum,
showcasing all of the wonderful artwork
that the children have created this year.
Please plan to join us for the last PTO
Meeting of the school year, on May 26th.
Please note that the meeting time
has been changed to 7:00pm. The
meeting will take place in the library and
babysitting will be provided. We look
forward to seeing you there!
Dining 4 $ Lead Needed for the 2015-2016 School Year
Dining 4 $ is in need of a Lead for the 2015-2016 school year. This program is a vital component to raising funds for the PTO and we are looking for a volunteer to be responsible for organizing these events. If you are interested, or have any questions as to what this role entails, please contact Rachel Coleman at [email protected] or Christy Bartlett at [email protected].
Volunteers still needed to work at the Beaverton Clothes Closet!
Art Literacy Lead Volunteers needed for 2015-2016
Art Literacy needs a 2015-2016 Volunteer Leader. Afraid you don’t know enough about art? No worries, no art background is required, just an enthusiasm to support our school. This is a well-developed program with strong volunteer support. Each lesson is already prepared by the district with production options to accommodate each school’s needs. This is a great way to volunteer and support every little cougar.
May 29 8:45-11:00 am is the upcoming Art Literacy Coordinator’s meeting. This is an important event if you are considering leading art lit next year. Contact Christie Emerson [email protected] or visit http://beavertonartliteracy.org/ to learn more.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Please consider volunteering at the Clothes Closet on Wednesday, May 20th. The Beaverton Clothes Closet is a volunteer service organization that provides clothing for children in grades K-12 enrolled in a Beaverton school. Each school is responsible for working at the clothes closet one day per school year. Cooper Mountain’s day is coming up on May 20th. This will be a fun and rewarding way to help kids in Beaverton.
Volunteers will work at the Clothes Closet assisting families who are choosing items at the Clothes Closet. Volunteers will also help sort clothing donations. We need to have 2-3 volunteers for each 2 hour shift. Shifts start at 9:30am and go until 4:30pm. Please consider signing up for this fun opportunity. I’ve done training at the Clothes Closet and it really is a great program that our school district offers to children in need. Please use the following link to sign up in HelpCounter. www.helpcounterweb.com/homeaccess?aid=fhunoppen
Feel free to email me with questions at [email protected]
Thank you, Jennifer Hoffman

ART LITERACY
Art Literacy Artist
Pieter Bruegel
1525-1569
Dutch Painter
May’s featured artist is the Dutch painter, Pieter Bruegel (called ‘the elder’ to
distinguish him from his sons and grandsons who also painted). Bruegel was born
almost 500 years ago in the Netherlands. He trained formally in Italy, but returned to
his homeland where he painted landscapes and genre scenes (pictures of common
people doing ordinary tasks). He pained dances, wedding feasts and people working in
the fields and harvesting their crops. Bruegel was instrumental in the acceptance of the
genre scenes and landscapes as fine art
After students examine the history and aesthetics of Bruegel’s work and how he created
space in his landscapes and genre scenes, they will use those elements to create their
own landscape.
Classroom volunteers are always welcome to support their child’s art lit class. Please
contact your teacher or classroom art lit volunteer for date and time. Students will
work with watercolor Inktense pencils on watercolor paper to create their scene.
Are you eager to see your child’s artwork? Volunteers will transform the hallway s into
a museum gallery for your viewing to begin at the first annual Cooper Mountain Social
and Raffle. Art will remain on display before going home with students at the end of
May.

sharing this event with anyone you know who might be interested in the run.
It is a 3K fun run at Summerlake Park in Tigard on May 16th, 2015 from
9am-noon. There will be dog contests, treats, prizes and more!
