Mission Statement St. Margaret is a diverse Christian community centered on the Eucharist which makes present in our midst the mystery of our redemption in Christ. Here, we grow in faith and love for God and one another. Our lives pro-claim the words of St. Paul: “You are strangers and aliens no longer. You are fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God”. (Eph 2:19) You are welcome to jour-ney with us. Together with our Blessed Mother, we give ourselves to do God’s will on earth as it is in Heaven.

HOW DO WE UNDERSTAND SUFFERING AND ILLNESS?

Dear friends in Christ: One of the most difficult things we have to face in life is sickness. The experience of illness brings fear and many times a revolt against God and a turn away from Him. From the human lens, sickness is not very well accepted by us and when it comes our way we panic and want healing right away because our biggest fear is the possibility of death. This is what the Catechism of the Catholic Church says about illness and suffering: “The man of the Old Testament lives his sickness in the presence of God. It is before God that he laments his illness, and it is of God, Master of life and death, that he implores healing. Illness becomes a way to conversion; God’s forgiveness initiates the healing. It is the experience of Israel that illness is mysteriously linked to sin and evil, and that faithfulness to God according to his law restores life: “For I am the Lord, your healer.” The prophet intuits that suffering can also have a redemptive meaning for the sins of others. Finally Isaiah announces that God will usher in a time for Zion when he will pardon every offense and heal every illness.” (#1502). The people of the Old Testament saw sickness as a result of their sinfulness before God. Yet, when Jesus heals the man born blind he said ‘that this happened so others could see the glory of God.’ Jesus came into the world to bring life, an abundance of life for us. During his life He went about bringing heal-ing to those who were sick. Whoever was brought to Jesus who was ill He restored them to health. The Church has always taught us that when suffering through illness comes our way we must “offer it up’ to God. When we truly do that our suffering becomes redemptive especially when we offer it for our sins and for others. We must look to the cross and see redemptive suffering, a suffering that brought salvation to the world. We must never reject illness or suffering in life since it can turn us towards God and can help us to see life from a different perspective. Christ invites his disciples to follow him by taking up their cross in their turn. In accepting our sickness and our suffering we are embracing the Cross and following Jesus as his true disciple. Today the Church goes to the sick and anoints them with the oil of healing that comes from Jesus. “Is there any one sick among you, let them send for the priest of the Church and let the priest pray over him anoint him with oil, the prayer of faith will save the sick person and if he has committed any sin his sins will be forgiven. (Jm 5:14-15) Let us not run away from sickness. Let us give a different meaning to the sickness that comes to our lives and offer it up to the Lord for our own salvation as well as for others. Let us embrace the cross and follow Jesus. May our sufferings be connected to the sufferings of the passion of Jesus, which brought new life to the whole world. May we find healing in Jesus since he is our healer.
I see they are preparing for the big Fish and Chips dinner on the last Friday of this month, if I am not mistaken it is the
first Friday of Lent. I know this is a won-derful way to get together that you have in
your parish and I know the man who cooks the fish does an excellent job. So plan to be there for the din-ner and to win any of the wonderful prizes they have for their raffle. I know everyone has a great time at that dinner. I see the master is very happy with some new families who have joined the parish. I am happy for the parish because living in that parish for so many
years I know what a great parish it is. I hope you will get involved in the life of the parish in any or many of the ministries they have. As they say this is the month of love and friendship and later on you will have time to dedicate a whole day to celebrate and to express your love to your friends and family. You all have people in your life that you truly love. I hope that day will be a great day to celebrate your friendship with others but especially with the Creator who I know loves you very much. I hope you have a good month and enjoy every moment of your life because that moment will never return to you. Ciao, woof, woof.

BIBLE STUDYOur Bible Study on Thursdays at 8:00 pm is going very well and the people that attend are very happy with the learning and the good insights they have on the Word of God through the teaching of our deacon Ken. We truly encourage everyone to attend the study every Thursday. It is indeed a great opportunity for everyone to know more the Word of God but more so to know in a deeper way the Lord Jesus. Join us then and see how the Word of God begins to take root in our lives.
MINISTERING TO THE SICKThe sick are very important in Holy Scriptures. Jesus many times offered his healing power to those who were sick and were brought to him. In the Church we have the beautiful Sacrament of the sick where the priest prays and anoints those who are in need of spiritual and physical healing. Please never hesitate to call any of our priests to assist those in your family who are ill. The anointing of the sick is not just for the dying but for those who are growing weak with age and also are sick. Our priests would be very happy to bring the sacrament to them.
FEAST OF OUR LADY OF LOURDESThis Tuesday, February 11 the Church celebrates the feast of our Lady under the title of Our Lady of Lourdes. As we all know the Blessed Mother appeared to Saint Bernadette on February 11, 1858 and told her that she was the Immaculate Conception. The dogma of the Im-maculate Conception had been proclaimed by Pope Pius IX in 1854. A beautiful sanctuary was built in the place of the apparition and since then millions of peo-ple have come to Lourdes looking for healing miracles and to visit this beautiful place. On this feast we honor the sick of the world, those who are living with pain and suffering. We invite you to join us with our Blessed Mother in praying to her son Jesus for all the sick in the world that they may find healing and strength from God.

Memorias de TonyVeo que se preparan para la Cena de pescado Fish & Chips que será el último viernes de este mes, que, si no estoy
mal, viene siendo el primer viernes de Cuaresma. Sé que es una bonita ocasión
para reunirte como parroquia y conozco al hombre que prepara el pescado y le queda fenomenal. Así que planea estar allí para la cena y para ganar uno de los maravillosos premios de la rifa. Sé que la pasarán muy bien en la cena. Veo que el amo está muy feliz ya que algunas familias nuevas se han agregado a la parroquia. Me siento feliz porque viví
allí por muchos años y sé que es una comunidad grandiosa. Espero que te comprometas a la vida de la parroquia en uno o tantos de los ministerios que ofrecen. Como están diciendo por ahí, este es el mes del amor y la amistad así que aprovecha para celebrar y expresar tu cariño a tus amigos y familia. Todos tienen personas que aman y quieren. Espero que el Día de san Valentín sea un día para celebrar tu amistad con otros, en especial con el Creador quien te ama muchísimo. Que tengas un buen mes de febrero y disfruta de cada momento de tu vida porque esos instantes nunca regresan. Chao, guau, guau.
¿CÓMO ENTENDEMOS EL SUFRIMIENTO Y LA ENFERMEDAD?
Por Padre Hernán Queridos amigos en Cristo:
Una de las situaciones más difíciles que tenemos que enfrentar en la vida es una enfermedad. Esta
experiencia trae temor y en ocasiones rebeldía contra Dios y alejarnos de Él. Desde el punto de vista humano, la enfermedad no es bien aceptada por nosotros, y cuando nos llega entramos en pánico y queremos tener la sanación y alivio inmediatos, porque nuestro más grande temor es la posibilidad de morir. Esto nos dice el Catecismo de la iglesia católica sobre la enfermedad y el sufrimiento: “El hombre del Antiguo Testamento vive la enfermedad de cara a Dios. Ante Dios se lamenta por su enfermedad y de Él, que es el Señor de la vida y de la muerte, implora la curación. La enfermedad se convierte en camino de conversión; y el perdón de Dios inaugura la curación. Israel experimenta que la enfermedad, de una manera misteriosa, se vincula al pecado y al mal; y que la fidelidad a Dios, según su Ley, devuelve la vida: “Yo, el Señor, soy el que te sana”. El profeta entrevé que el sufrimiento puede tener también un sentido redentor por los pecados de los demás. Finalmente, Isaías anuncia que Dios hará venir un tiempo para Sión en que perdonará toda falta y curará toda enfermedad” (CIC, 1502). El pueblo del Antiguo Testamento vio la enfermedad como consecuencia del pecado contra Dios. Aún así, cuando Jesús sanó al hombre que nació ciego dijo: “nació así para que se manifiesten en él las obras de Dios” (Jn. 9, 3). Jesús vino al mundo para traer vida, abundancia de vida para nosotros. Durante su vida fue llevando la sanación a aquellos que estaban enfermos. Quien fuera llevado delante de Jesús y estaba enfermo, Él los restauró a la salud. La iglesia nos ha enseñado siempre que cuando haya sufrimiento a causa de una enfermedad debemos “ofrecerla” a Dios. Cuando lo hacemos de corazón, nuestro sufrimiento se hace redentor, en especial cuando lo ofrecemos por nuestros pecados y los de los demás. Debemos mirar hacia la cruz y ver que ese sufrimiento redentor trajo la salvación al mundo. Nunca debemos rechazar la enfermedad o el sufrimiento en nuestra vida, ya que ellos nos acercan a Dios y nos pueden ayudar a ver la vida desde una perspectiva diferente. Cristo invita a sus discípulos a seguirlo tomando nuestra propia cruz. Al aceptar nuestra enfermedad y sufrimiento, estamos abrazando y acogiendo a la cruz y siguiendo a Jesús como un verdadero discípulo. Hoy la iglesia acude a los enfermos y los unge con el óleo de la sanación que viene de Jesús. “¿Hay alguno enfermo? Que llame a los ancianos de la Iglesia, que oren por él y lo unjan con aceite en el nombre del Señor. La oración hecha con fe salvará al que no puede levantarse y el Señor hará que se levante; y si ha cometido pecados, se le perdonarán” (Sant. 5, 14-15). No huyamos de esta afección. Démosle un distinto significado a la enfermedad que viene a nuestras vidas y ofrezcámosla al Señor por nuestra propia salvación, así como por la de los demás. Abracemos y acojamos la cruz y sigamos a Jesús. Que nuestros sufrimientos se conecten a los de la pasión de Jesús, que trajo nueva vida al mundo entero. Que encontremos sanación en Jesús ya qué él es nuestro sanador.

GRUPO DE BIBLIANuestro grupo de los jueves a las 7 P.M. va muy bien y los que vienen están muy contentos con lo aprendido y las buenas ideas sobre la Palabra de Dios por medio de la enseñanza. Animo a todos para que vengan los jueves. También es a las 8 p.m. en inglés en la oficina. Sin duda es una gran oportunidad para todos de conocer más sobre la Palabra de Dios y de manera más profunda al Señor Jesús. Acompáñanos y mira cómo la Palabra de Dios comienza a echar raíces en nuestras vidas.
FIESTA DE NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LOURDESEste jueves, 11 de febrero, la iglesia celebra la Fiesta de Nuestra Señora de Lourdes, y recordamos cuando se le apareció a santa Bernardita en 1858 y dijo que era la Inmaculada concepción. El dogma de la Inmaculada concepción fue proclamado por el Papa Pio IX en 1854. Un hermoso santuario se construyó en su lugar de aparición y desde entonces millones de peregrinos van a Lourdes buscando milagros de sanación y a visitar este hermoso sitio. En esta fiesta honramos a los enfermos del mundo, a los que viven con dolor y sufrimiento. En la iglesia tenemos el hermoso Sacramento de la unción de los enfermos, donde el sacerdote reza y unge a quienes que necesitan sanación espiritual y física. Nunca dejes de llamar al sacerdote para que pueda asistir a los de tu familia. La unción de los enfermos no es solo para los agonizantes sino para los débiles, o de edad mayor, y/o enfermos. Nuestros sacerdotes estarán felices de celebrar el Sacramento
