Last Thursday the parish had the thank you dinner and Eucharistic celebration to thank those who volunteered during the Carnival. I was amazed how many

people came and maybe how many people were missing who worked very

hard during the Carnival. What makes this event so successful is not so much the amount of money you raised but to see the many people come together and work together for the good of the parish. I repeat the words of your pastor. The main reason for the Carni-val is to bring people together and to build commu-nity. The Carnival is that great opportunity to build the

Church. I want to congratulate all the volunteers and of course the core group committee who worked very hard in making it such a success, because despite the rain you had you did very well. I think the amount of money of $ was spectacular and you must be very grateful to God for his many blessings. Your hard work and dedication did pay off and today you see the results. It is my prayer from dog heaven that you continue to work together and perhaps more people will join you next year and of course do even bet-ter. I know your pastor is very happy with the great results but more so for all that you did to make it such a great and beautiful blessing. Ciao, woof, woof.

“Get behind me, Satan. You are thinking not as God does,

but as human beings do.”By Father Yasid

Dear friends in Christ: How many times have you heard someone rebuking the devil? I think I should ask you first, do you believe the devil exists? Are you really aware of what he can do in your life if you let him? Because if you do not believe there is something trying to get your soul by satisfying your earthy desires, then do not be surprise when the end of time comes and you face him. Jesus teaches us in the gospels about the reality of evil. And it is our responsibility as Christians to remember this truth so you can be prepared for this spiritual battle. These words are said by Jesus to Peter when he tries to stop Jesus from doing God’s will. And this is exactly what the devil does in our life, persuad-ing us not to follow God and distracting us to no listening to His words. He is a liar, as the scripture says, “When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies” (John 8:44). And he will try to put suggestions in your mind for you to doubt about his existence, so he can work without problem in you without you fighting back. The Church, inspired by the Holy Spirit, has always taught about the existence of the evil one. But, by being something we do not see and a spiri-tual reality, then it is easy for many people to deny his existence. For this reason, I encourage you not to believe what people have said, but what the Bible says about him. We read in the scriptures, “The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason

the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work”. (1 John 3:8) We can also read in the Acts of the Apostles 5:3 “Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land?” Also the epistle of James 4:7 gives us very important advice, “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Saint Paul in his letter to the Romans 16:20 reminds us, “The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus be with you.” And also Saint Peter in his first letter 5:8-9 says, “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, be-cause you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” Have you resisted the devil? Have you resisted his temptations? Have you consented to sinful thoughts in which Jesus could say to you today, “Get behind me, Satan”? Because if Jesus said this to Peter, one of His beloved and faithful followers and apostles, what would He say to us, unworthy sinners, who like to rejoice in the temptations of the devil and his tricks? The Lord’s invitation is to take our cross and to follow Him, in this way we will defeat the devil, with Jesus in our side. May the Lord bless your week and give you the strength to overcome your temptations.

BIBLE STUDYThis week on Thursday at 7:00 PM we will continue with our Bible study in the church hall. This is a great opportunity for you to know about the Holy Scriptures but also to have a greater relationship with God. As a child in our Faith Forma-tion program said to me: The more you know about God the more you love him. Come, bring a friend and bring your Bible.

CONFIRMATION PREPARATIONThis preparation is for all our teenagers who are in High School and for those who have not been confirmed yet. We invite you to register and start this great pro-cess that will help you to be ready to receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. Once confirmed you are a true Chris-tian disciple of the Lord. El jueves pasado tuvimos la Misa y cena para los voluntarios de agradecimien-to por haber trabajado en el carnaval. Estuve asombrado de ver que tantas

personas vinieron y hasta pidieron per-miso en sus trabajos para venir a trabajar

muy fuerte durante los 4 días. Lo que hace tan exitoso el carnaval no es tanto el dinero sino ver reunidas a tantas personas trabajando juntas por el bien de la parroquia. Repito las palabras de su párroco: la razón principal por la que se hace el carnaval es para reunir a la gente y fortalecer la comunidad. Es una grandiosa oportunidad de construir la iglesia. Quiero felicitar a

todos los voluntarios y al comité organizador por su trabajo tan fuerte para que todo fuera un éxito, porque a pesar de la lluvia que tuvieron les fue muy bien. Pi-enso que fue espectacular recaudar $71.295 dólares y deben estar agradecidos con Dios por esa gran ben-dición. Su arduo trabajo y dedicación si valieron la pena y ahora vean los resultados. Oro desde el cielo canino para que ustedes sigan trabajando juntos y a lo mejor más personas se unan a este esfuerzo que hacen cada año y hagan las cosas aun mucho mejor. ¡Apártate de mí, Satanás porque tú no juzgas según Dios,

sino según los hombres!”Por el Padre Yasid

¿Cuántas veces has escuchado a alguien reprendiendo al demonio? Aunque pienso que de-bería preguntarte primero, ¿tú crees que el demo-nio existe? ¿Estás realmente consciente de lo que él puede hacer en tu vida si tú lo dejas? Porque si no crees que hay algo tratando de conseguir tu alma, sa-tisfaciendo tus deseos mundanos, entonces no te sor-prendas cuando el fin de los tiempos venga y tú lo encares. Jesús nos enseña en los evangelios sobre esta realidad del mal. Y es nuestra responsabilidad como cristianos de recordarte de esta verdad, para que tú puedas estar preparado para esta batalla espiritual. Estas palabras son dichas por Jesús a Pedro cuando él trata de parar a Jesús por hacer la volun-tad de Dios, y esto es exactamente lo que el demo-nio hace en nuestra vida, persuadirnos para no seguir a Jesús y distraernos para no escuchar sus palabras. Él es un mentiroso, como nos dicen las escrituras, “Cuando habla mentira, habla de lo que le es pro-pio; porque es mentiroso y padre de la mentira” (Juan 8:44). Él tratara de poner sugestiones en tu mente para que dudes de su existencia, para así él poder traba-jar sin ningún problema en ti, sin que tú lo resistas. La iglesia, inspirada por el Espíritu Santo, ha enseñado siempre sobre la existencia del mal. Pero, por ser algo que no vemos y por ser una realidad espi-ritual, entonces es fácil para muchas personas negar su existencia. Por esta razón, te animo a no creer lo que las personas han dicho, sino lo que la Biblia dice sobre él. Leemos en las escrituras, “El que practica el peca-do es del diablo, porque el diablo peca desde el prin

cipio. Para esto se ha manifestado el Hijo de Dios: para deshacer las obras del diablo” (1 Juan 3:8). Podemos también leer en los Hechos de los Apóstoles 5:3 “En-tonces Pedro le dijo: Ananías, ¿por qué le permitiste a Satanás que entrara en ti para mentirle al Espíritu Santo y sustraer parte de tu dinero?”. También la epístola de Santiago 4:7 nos da un consejo muy importante, “Por lo tanto, sométanse a Dios; opongan resistencia al dia-blo, y él huirá de ustedes”. San Pablo en su carta a los Romanos 16:20 nos recuerda, “Muy pronto el Dios de paz aplastará a Satanás bajo los pies de ustedes. Que la gracia de nuestro Señor Jesucristo sea con ustedes”. Y también san Pedro en su primera carta 5:8-9 dice, “Sean prudentes y manténganse atentos, porque su enemigo es el diablo, y él anda como un león rugiente, buscando a quien devorar. Pero ustedes, manténganse firmes y háganle frente. Sepan que en todo el mundo sus hermanos están enfrentando los mismos sufrimientos”. ¿Has resistido al demonio? ¿Has resistido sus ten-taciones? ¿Has consentido pensamientos pecaminosos en los que Jesús podría decirte hoy, ¡Apártate de mí, Satanás!?. Porque si Jesús le dijo esto a Pedro, uno sus amados y fieles seguidores y apóstoles, ¿qué nos dirá Él a nosotros, indignos pecadores, que nos gusta regoci-jarnos en las tentaciones del demonio y en sus trampas? La invitación del Señor es a tomar nues-tra cruz y a seguirlo, de esta manera der-rotaremos el mal, con Jesús a nuestro lado. Que el Señor bendiga tu semana y te de la fuerza para vencer tus tentaciones.

OUR LITURGY — MASSESThe liturgy or what we also call the Mass is the center of our lives as Christian-Catholics that we are. St. John Paul II said that “the Mass was the center and summit of our Christian life.” For this reason we want the Mass not to be a performance but a real expression of our love for God and a true worship that comes directly from the heart. NUESTRA LITURGIA – LA MISALa Misa es el centro de nuestras vidas como cristianos católi-cos que somos. San Juan Pablo II dijo: “La Misa es el cen-tro y la cumbre de la vida cristiana”. Queremos que la Misa no sea un simple “función” sino una verdadera expresión de nuestro amor a Dios y una verdadera alabanza que vi-ene directo del corazón. Queremos escuchar de ustedes cómo qué sienten sobre la celebración de la Misa domini-cal, en cuanto a hospitalidad, predicación, música y la for-ma en que se hacen las cosas en la parroquia. Los invito para que recorten este formulario, escriban lo que piensan y nos ayuden a mejorar la celebración dominical de la santa Misa

GRACIAS, THANK YOU, SALAMAT PO, GRAZIEEstamos muy agradecidos con todos ustedes una vez más por el tremendo trabajo que hicieron en el Carnaval. Como pueden ver sus esfuerzos valieron la pena y tuvimos un año muy exitoso. El total de dinero que hicimos en el carnaval fue de $71,295. dólares. Una vez más GRACIAS y que el Señor bendiga su generosidad y su amor y dedicación por la iglesia.

GRUPO DE BIBLIA Este jueves a las 7 PM seguiremos nuestro estudio de Biblia. Es una magnifica oportunidad para ustedes de conocer las sagradas escrituras y además tener una may-or y mejor relación con Dios. Como me dijo un niño del Catecismo: ¡entre más conozcamos de Dios más lo amaremos! Venga con un amigo y traigan sus Biblias.

PROGRAMA DE CONFIRMACIÓNEsta preparación es para estudiantes de High School y para los que aun no se han confirmado. Los invitamos para que se matriculen cuanto antes y empiecen este proceso que les ayudará a estar listos para recibir el don del Espíritu santo. Una vez hagan la Confirmación serán verdaderos discípulos del Señor. Vengan e inscríbanse en la oficina.

R.I.C.A.Es un proceso con el que los adultos que aun no se han bautizado, confirmado o hecho la Primera comunión, se preparen para recibir todos los sacramentos que les haga falta. Recuerden que nunca es tarde para comple-tar los sacramentos y estar en relación con Cristo. Las reuniones empiezan el domingo, 23 de septiembre después de la Misa de las 12:15 P.M. aprox. A la 1:30 P.M. en la oficina parroquial (12 Columba Street). Por favor pasen a la oficina para inscribirse cuanto antes.

MISA DE ANIVERSARIO DE BODAS DE PLATA Y ORO¿Parejas, Ustedes se casaron en 1968 o 1993? Es-tán cordialmente invitados a celebrar su 25 ó 50 Ani-versario de Bodas con la Diócesis de Paterson. El Obispo Serratelli será el celebrante principal de la misa en la Catedral San Juan Bautista en Paterson el:Domingo, 4 de Noviembre de 2018 a las 3:30pm.Para más información, por favor llame a su oficina par-roquial. Los formularios para registrarse estarán dis-ponibles hasta el Lunes, 15 de Octubre de 2018.
