WELCOME FROM THE ORGANIZERS
Dear Distinguished Delegates and Guests,
The Organizing Committee warmly welcomes our distinguished delegates and guests to the 2012 International
Conference on Mechanical Science and Engineering (ICMSE 2012) held on July 20-22, 2012, Beijing, China.
ICMSE 2012 is sponsored by International Association of Management Science and Engineering Technology
(IAMSET). The ICMSE 2012 is organized to gather members of our international community scientists so that
researchers from around the world can present their leading-edge work, expanding our community’s knowledge
and insight into the significant challenges currently being addressed in that research .The conference Program
Committee is itself quite diverse and truly international, with membership from the Americas, Europe, Asia,
Africa and Oceania.
This proceeding records the fully refereed papers presented at the conference. The main conference themes and
tracks are Applied Mechanics and Materials. The main goal of these events is to provide international scientific
forums for exchange of new ideas in a number of fields that interact in-depth through discussions with their peers
around the word. Both inward research; core areas of Applied Mechanics and Materials and outward research;
multi-disciplinary, and applications will be covered during these events.
The conference has solicited and gathered technical research submissions related to all aspects of major
conference themes and tracks. All the submitted papers in the proceeding have been peer reviewed by the
reviewers drawn from the scientific committee, external reviewers and editorial broad depending on the subject
matter of the paper. Reviewing and initial selection were undertaken electronically. After the rigorous peer-review
process, the summited papers were selected on the basis of originality, significance, and clarity for the purpose of
the conference. The selected papers and additional late-breaking contributors to be presented as lectures will make
an existing technical program. The conference program is extremely rich, featuring high-impact presentations.
The high quality of the program-guaranteed by the presence of an unparalleled number of internationally
recognized top experts-can is assessed when reading the contents of the program. The conference will therefore be
a unique event, where attendees will be able to appreciate the latest results in their field of expertise, and to
acquire additional knowledge in other fields. The program has been structured to favor interactions among
attendees coming from many diverse horizons, scientifically, geographically, from academia and from industry.
Included in this will to favor interactions are social events at prestigious sites.
We would like to thank the program chairs, organization staff and the members of the program committees for
their work. Thanks also go to Applied Mechanics and Materials Journal, for its wonderful editor service to this
proceeding.
We are grateful to all those who have contributed to the success of ICMSE 2012. We hope that all participants and
other interested readers benefit scientifically from the proceedings and also find it stimulating in the process.
Finally, we would like to wish you success in your technical presentations and social networking.
We hope you have a unique, rewarding and enjoyable week at ICMSE 2012 in Beijing, China.

Abstract: Slope hydrology is an important branch of Modern hydrology, it has a great significance to study the
runoff and converge mechanism research of the basin. The characteristics study include of runoff velocity and
infiltration rate etc al. the runoff velocity is an important physical quantity to describe overland flow hydraulics
characterize. This paper study the effect of slope degrees and water drainage amount on the runoff velocity. The
result shows: slope degree and water drainage both are the important factors to change the runoff velocity. The
average runoff velocity were increased first and then reach steady-state fluctuations between 0.1-1m/s at different
drainage amount, the time they got to the steady states was different. The results could provide some technology
support to establishment slope erosion model.

Fatigue Mechanism Revealed
through Multistage Strength
Degradation of Notched Concrete
Beams under Sequential Loading

Development Center,
Nippon Koei Co., Ltd.
Abstract. Under cyclic loading, the material weakening processes in structural members inevitably involve multiple
cracking originating from some of the spatially-distributed initial flaws and imperfections, and hence diverse
cracking behaviors can be expected. It is known from previous studies on multiple cracks that, the cracking
behavior in a structural member can abruptly change as a crack or a number of cracks reach a critical value of crack
propagation, causing sudden strength degradation. In this study, by applying sequential loads at different locations
of the same FE model of a notched beam, it is shown that this unique strength degradation mechanism can
repeatedly occur as cracks propagate under sequential loads, leading to multistage strength degradation of the
member. This result is in line with early experimental findings that the load-carrying capacity of a notched concrete
beam under bending decreases in a similar fashion as the sizes of multiple initial notches are arbitrarily increased.
This study has important implications for understanding the fundamental fatigue mechanisms of various engineering
materials.

Frame
Abstract. Characteristic parameters of joint surfaces are needed in kinetic modeling of the motor frame while
analyzing its vibration behavior. In this paper, research on tangential dynamic characteristics of mechanical joint
surfaces in the motor frame is executed. In order to get the tangential contact stiffness and contact damping of
interfaces in the motor frame under different joint conditions, an experimental method is proposed according to the
structure feature and running condition of motors. A test platform is specially designed and set up. The kinetic
model of test specimens (including the test joint surfaces) is derived. The experimental system is developed. The
tangential dynamic contact stiffness and contact damping are identified by the experimental system. The variation
rules of the contact stiffness and contact damping with changing of pre-load, exciting frequency and surface

Abstract. Positioning systems with higher speed and accuracy are required in semiconductor package
manufacturing and the product quality and production efficiency can be further improved. So this paper presents a
new 2-DOF precision positioning platform with high speed. The platform is directly driven by linear motors, and a
novel elastic decoupling mechanism is put forward. High positioning accuracy and good stability in a short stroke,
high precision and high speed movement can be achieved using linear motors. The X axis and Y axis kinematic
decoupling is realized through the novel elastic decoupling mechanism based on a preloaded spring and flexure
hinges, and the dynamic characteristics of the system are improved. The dynamic characteristics of the positioning
platform in free state are investigated based on finite element analysis, and the natural frequencies and vibration
modes of the positioning platform are obtained, which provides theoretical basis for the further dynamic control of
the positioning platform.

Abstract:Superfine, high-purity and well-distributed magnesium aluminate spinel powders were fabricated by
controlling alkoxides hydrolysis process. Magnesium aluminate alkoxides were prepared by sol-gel with
magnesium, aluminum and n-butyl alcohol as starting materials. Magnesium aluminate spinel powders were
fabricated by double alkoxides sintering at 1200 ℃ for 1h. Controlling hydrolyzing process could obtain the
optimum gel time and spinel powders were analyzed by OMEC LS-800 type Laser Particle Size Analyzer.
Integrated gel time and particle size, the optimum hydrolyzing parameters are obtained for double metal alkoxides:
the concentration of the double metal alkoxides is below 0.3 mol/L, hydrolysis temperature is 20 ℃, the molar rate
of alkoxides and water is 1: 10 and the mechanism of the hydrolysis is investigated. Nicolet Avatar 360 type FTIR
spectrometer shows that acetylacetone and alkoxides can form a stable hexatomic ring which restrains hydrolysis
reaction and controls particle size.

Abstract. This article discusses the development and the establishment of turbulent flow downstream of disturbers
like a valve 50% open, valve 70% open, Tee and 90° double bend in perpendicular planes. Associated with these
disturbers, a perforated plate flow conditioner is installed to examine his performances to produce the fully
developed pipe flow as suggested by standards ISO5167 and AGA3. The study focused mainly on the numerical
analysis of the velocity contours at several axial stations downstream the disturbers. For the simulation, code CFD
Fluent was used. The study of the disturbed flow is examined with three Reynolds numbers. The results show a very
good prediction of the CFD code Fluent for the flow development downstream the disturbers and conditioner which
makes the code very efficient for conception of a new flow conditioner not described by the standards. It was also
found that the valve 50% open could be considered a reference disturber for analyzing the development of turbulent
flows. As interesting results, is the effectiveness of the perforated plate to produce the flow developed pipe flow at
about z/D=10 downstream the disturber. This result is very important for flow measurement accuracy as suggested
by the standards. An experimental study is needed to validate these results.

Abstract. Flow-induced vibration (FIV) of a head gimbals assembly (HGA) in hard disk drives (HDDs) limits the
positioning accuracy of magnetic head in the HGA for higher HDD magnetic recording density. The pressure
fluctuations characterize turbulent fluctuations exciting the HGA off-track vibration (HGA-OTV). In this paper,
experimental studies have been carried out to investigate the spectrum characteristics correspondence between
pressure fluctuations around an HGA and the simultaneous HGA-OTV under different HDD rotation speeds. A
practical and effective experimental setup has been implemented to enable the simultaneous measurements on both
the pressure fluctuation and HGA-OTV signals, where pressure fluctuations are measured with a pressure
transducer through a small hole on the HDD top cover and the direct HGA-OTV signals are detected through a laser
Doppler vibrometer. Results under conditions of three different HDD rotation speeds of 7200, 9000, 10800 rpm
have been investigated and compared. It is shown that the HGA off-track vibration spectra are highly associated
with those of the pressure fluctuations in terms of principal peaks in four frequency bands around 1.8 kHz, 2.5-3.5
kHz, 7-7.5 kHz and 11.5-12.5 kHz. With increasing HDD rotation speed, it is shown that the spectrum magnitudes
of both the pressure fluctuation and the HGA off-track vibration increase correspondingly, while the principal peak
positions in spectra of either pressure fluctuation or the HGA off-track vibration always hold the line. This study
demonstrates a causal nexus from the pressure fluctuation to the HGA off-track vibration and suggests the
feasibility of controlling the HGA-OTV through suppression of pressure fluctuations around the HGA.
9 E210390 A NewFault Detection and Diagnosis Method Based on
Wigner-Ville Spectrum Entropy for the Rolling Bearing Yanshan University
Abstract. The rolling bearings are one of the most critical components in rotary machinery. To prevent unexpected
bearing failure, it is crucial to develop the effective fault detection and diagnosis techniques to realize equipment’s
near-zero downtime and maximum productivity. In this paper, a new fault detection and diagnosis method based on
Wigner-Ville spectrum entropy (WVSE) is proposed. First, the local mean decomposition (LMD) and the
Wigner-Ville distribution (WVD) are combined to develop a new feature extraction approach to extract the fault
features in time-frequency domain of the bearing vibration signals. Second, the concept of the Shannon entropy is
integrated into the WVD to define the Wigner-Ville spectrum entropy to quantify the energy variation in
time-frequency distribution under different work conditions. The research results from the bearing vibration signals
demonstrate that the proposed method based on WVSE can identify different fault patterns more accurately and
effectively comparing with other methods based on singular spectrum entropy (SSE) or power spectrum entropy
(PSE).

10 E210391 Fabrication of Superhydrophobic Surfaces on Aluminum
Substrates Via Electrochemical Etching and Re-deposition
Dalian University of
Technology
Abstract: Superhydrophobic surfaces on metal substrates are often prepared via roughing the surfaces and lowering
their surface energy. The superhydrophobic aluminum surface with a water contact angle of 162.5° and rolling angle
less than 6° was fabricated via electrochemical etching and re-deposition using the alkalic Na3PO4 electrolyte and
then fluorination treating. The surface morphology and chemical composition were characterized by scanning
electron microscopy (SEM) and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The results show that the surface
consists of the micrometer-scale lumps and protrusions, and many nanometer-scale mastoids are filled in these
protrusions. These hierarchical micro/nanometer-scale binary structures, which are similar to the micro-structures of
lotus leaf surfaces, play an important role in achieving superhydrophobicity. The main components of the binary
geometric structures are Al2O3, AlPO4, and H2O. The effects of the processing time and processing voltage on the
macro-morphology were also investigated. The macro-rough structures appeared on the edge of the aluminum
surface firstly, and then spread gradually to the entire surface.

Abstract. A new soft-braking strategy for modern Wind Turbines (WTs) is proposed. The braking torque is directly
controlled by regulating the caliper’s hydraulic pressure via a controllable pressure valve, subject to some thermal
constraints about mechanic braking units. The proposed control strategy consists of a pressure controller, a braking
controller and an optimization algorithm for generating a braking torque reference. The modeling issues and some
of these design/developments based on a lab-sized setup are discussed. Comparing with the existing WT braking
solutions, either through an on/off control, or through some soft-braking mechanism which mainly employs a kind
of generator-shaft speed control, the proposed approach can control the brake-induced mechanic stress to the
transmission system in a more effective manner, and meanwhile, the thermal stress to the braking units is also
explicitly cooperated into this design.

Abstract. This paper introduces the working principle of the micromacined gyroscope, and establishes the drive
equation of it. By solving the differential Equation, the analytical solution and the amplitude-frequency
characteristics of the driving mode are obtained. By the visual measurement based on high-speed photography and
the post image processing, it measures the vibration of the drive mode of the micromachined gyroscope. And it puts
forward a novel displacement detect algorithm that based on the image processing, and with Matlab it verifies the
analytical solution and the amplitude-frequency characteristics of drive mode of the micromachined gyroscope. This
helps the study on the vibration of the micromacined gyroscope, and provides a new way to measure MEMS.

Abstract. At present, limited work was reported on the exact solution of axial stress for a multilayered pressure
vessel subjected to mechanical and thermal loads. However, the axial stress plays an important role to the structural
strength due to the influence of thermal load. Based on the theory of thermo-elasticity and finite element (FE)
technology, therefore, the exact solution and numerical solution were constructed for a multilayered urea synthesis
tower made of different kinds of materials subjected to an internal pressure and a thermal load. Results show good
agreement between the theoretical solution and numerical solution, and thus it demonstrates the reliability of the
derivation process and developed calculation formula, which would be helpful for more precise calculation and
scientific design of the multilayered pressure vessel.

Abstract. The town of Ain El Hammam is based in crest of a hill affected by an active and extensive landslide. The
complexity and significant evolution of this instability makes risk management more difficult. We realized in this
paper a mapping of the slope and a study of risk and hazard-induced by ground movements in this region and this
by taking into account the probable causes of instability. The principal advantage of the model of assessment of
hazard developed is the possibility to realize punctual studies of the risk on natural or artificial slopes. Moreover,
this work constitutes just a contribution to the safety management of Ain El Hammam.

Abstract. The cyclic test is becoming one of important tests in automotive industry. Various cyclic tests are needed
to be done after new concept of product or technology has developed. However it is almost impossible to do same
test at same test condition in real situation because it highly depends on test road condition or driving ability of the
driver. Therefore, in order to perform same performance test repeatedly, this paper describes about system
configuration and path following algorithm for the cyclic test of the autonomous vehicle. The areas discussed in
detail include vehicle modification, controller design, system configuration, navigation and path following
algorithm. The performance of the test vehicle is also described and evaluated by experiment in real environment.

Abstract. Rolling element bearings are widely used in various rotary machines. Most rotary machine failures are
attributed to unexpected bearing faults. Accordingly, reliable bearing fault detection is critically needed in industries
to prevent these machines’ performance degradation, malfunction, or even catastrophic failures. Feature extraction
plays an important role in bearing fault detection and significant research efforts have thus far been devoted to this
subject from both academia and industry. This paper intends to provide a brief review of the recent developments in
feature extraction for bearing fault detection, and the focus will be placed on the advances in methods for dealing
with the nonstationary characteristics of bearing fault signatures.

Abstract: The system fault behavior model was investigated by the author first. System fault behavior model
describes the occurrence and development process of malfunction in product, and analyzes the transmission process
of unit malfunction in system and effects of various factors on system. In order to realize simulation of system fault
behavior, it is necessary to perform formalized process of system fault behavior model, so as to acquire the
mathematic description required by computer simulation. So the formalized description of fault behavior model
(FBM) based on polychromatic sets theory was introduced. With consideration of the characteristics of model
hierarchy and information variety of current fault behavior model, the method of polychromatic sets and
polychromatic graph was adopted to describe the information such as objects, behaviors, restriction and relevant
correlation in model. Formalized description of fault behavior model and convenient model for computer expression
and operation were realized, which laid down a further solid foundation for simulation of system fault behavior.

Abstract:The purpose of the study is to design an embedded broadcasting system based on the CAN (Control Area
Network) bus for a computer-assisted learning application. In the system, the several embedded USB switching
module (EUSM) are combined and linked. The EUSM consists of a USB host chip and a USB slave chip, and the
USB device driver are embedded to extend the usability. The module excels in signal switching without
re-enumerating USB keyboard and mouse, and it is able to evaluate the effectiveness of simultaneous signal
switches in computer-assisted learning application. In addition, the EUSM can be realized in three modes of
operation: Host Device Mode, Pass Mode, and Slave Device Mode. The integration of multiple EUSMs can be
realized by a computer-assisted learning application with optimal performance, ranging from one PC (master or
instructor PC) to 229 PCs (slave or student PCs), through CAN bus network using extended frame format. The CAN
provides a safest communication channel to exchange up to 8 bytes per frame between several network nodes or
EUSM. The embedded broadcasting system cooperates easily with any other classroom broadcasting systems to
provide the finest instruction with USB keyboard and USB mouse in the interactive learning environment.
