9:00 am – 5:00 pm CONTEMPORARY ORTHODONTICS – THE ROLE OF APPEARANCE AND ESTHETICS IN DIAGNOSIS ANDTREATMENT PLANNING

In restorative dentistry, aesthetics is discussed in terms of anterior tooth display and smile design. To orthodontists and oral surgeons it is the facial profile. Interdisciplinary treatment in dentistry has progressed enormously in the past two decades, with collaboration betweendentists and all the specialties of dentistry resulting in superior results compared to thosewithout collaboration. Our diagnosis and treatment planning vision can now expand to include both broader appearance issues and microesthetic issues such as tooth shape andform. With the assessment and treatment of other dimensions of smile and facial esthetics, the target for the patient may be the ultimate dentofacial esthetic outcome. This lecture willalso introduce the imaginative use of new technologies for diagnosis, patient communication, and interdisciplinary communication and documentation.
