Keys and Controls (1/2)
Intelligent Lighting
Some keys which are used for controlling media applications are hidden until there is a use case for them (e.g. if the music player is in the foreground the media keys (play/pause, stop, forward, rewind) will light up; if the user starts a game, the game keys light up).
Naviwheel
Nokia N81 8GB supports a touch sensitive Naviwheel for fast scrolling through multimedia content. This key is integrated in the 5-way scroll navigation key.
Supported applications and use cases are:
• Nokia Nseries Music Player => fast scrolling through play lists, tracks, artists
• Nokia Multimedia Gallery => fast scrolling through photos, videos
• Multimedia Menu => rotate the menu items
The Naviwheel can be accessed by moving a finger around the 5-way scroll navigation key ring.
There is a setting to activate Naviwheel:
• Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Sensor Settings>Navi wheel

Multimedia menu - Gallery
Gallery
Last captured: The last stored image or video is opened in full screen viewer. It is possible to browse through all images and videos stored in Gallery by prev/next. Thumbnail of the last image or video is shown.
Second line shows the storing date of the last item.
Slideshow: Starts the slideshow (Gallery feature).
Second line shows the number of images included in the slideshow.
Albums: Opens the Albums view from Gallery. If there are no albums, the user can create a new album.
Second line shows the number of albums.

Multimedia menu - Music
Music
Now Playing: Shows the currently (or latest) played track and playback state (play, paused). Album art is shown if available. When selected, opens the music player.
Second line shows the title of currently/latest played track.
(Radio is not supported.)
Music: Selecting this opens the music menu with ”all songs” focused. This allows access to all music in the device.
Second line shows the number of tracks stored in the device.
Podcasts: Selecting this opens the podcast menu with ”all episodes” focused.
Second line shows the number of episodes stored in the collection.
Playlists: Selecting this opens the playlist menu view with ”all playlists” focused.
Second line shows the number of playlists stored in the device.
Shuffle all songs: Starts music player in shuffle mode with a random song.
Second line shows the total playback time of all music.
OR
Nokia Music store: Launches the online Nokia Music store.
Second line shows text: "Explore new music and old favourites”
This is product configurable. Nokia music store is recommended to all products which still can manage the change.

If browser homepage is set to url:
Home page and bookmarks
The Internet tile contains browser home page as the first item, after which max 4 bookmarks from browser. Selecting homepage or bookmark launches the browser to the selected page.

The Internet tile contains max 5 bookmarks from browser. Selecting homepage or bookmark launches the browser to the selected page.

Multimedia menu - Contacts
Contacts
Favourite contacts: The user can manually select up to 5 contacts from the device’s contacts list to the Contacts tile. These contacts are then fast and easily reachable for voice calling, SMS, and MMS. Thumbnails, if available for the selected contacts, are shown.
Calling and messaging are addressed to the default number of the contact. Default number is shown on the second line.
The user can arrange the contacts and modify them at any time.

Maps
The recent location objects: The Maps tile shows the location objects the user has used most recently. Maximum of 5 location objects can be shown. Selecting a location object launches the Maps application showing the selected location on the map.
Second line shows the city and country information of the location as stored in the Maps application.

Managing Mass Memory (RM-179 only)
• The Memory application is used for managing and viewing the details of the mass memory. The following information can be viewed about this memory: name, total size, memory in use and free memory.
• The following features are supported:1. Backup to mass memory
• Enables the user to backup the multimedia computer contents to mass memory.
2. Restore from mass memory • Enables the user to restore earlier backed up data from the mass memory to
the multimedia computer internal memory
3. Format mass memory• The user can format the mass memory
4. Mass memory name• The user can define a name for the mass memory.
5. Mass memory state• The user can view details of the mass memory state, e.g. amount of data used
per file type (images, audio etc.).

Troubleshooting the Mass Memory – An Overview1. You have two ways to troubleshoot your Nokia N81 Mass Memory:
1. Using your Nokia N81 phone (Format)
2. Using your PC (Format, Scan, Defragment)
2. Preferably format your Mass memory using the disk format option in the Nokia N81
3. Do not format your Mass Memory using NTFS
4. Do not format your Mass Memory using Mac File System
5. If using the PC to format your Mass Memory use FAT 32 option
6. Detach your Nokia phone from your Computer using the "Unplug" to avoid damage to the Mass Memory may be damaged
If the above do not help, customer should visit service point

Formatting Mass Memory in Nokia N81
• This is the preferred option as it is fairly quick and will recreate the Symbian File system on the Mass Memory
• Warn Customer that all data will be lost
• Menu>Tools>Utilities>Memory>Options>Format Mass Memory

Managing Mass Memory through the PC
• If there are problems using the Mass Memory in the Nokia N81 and the user can’t/doesn’t want to format the Memory in the device, the following steps can be tried
1. Connect Nokia N81 to PC using USB Mass Storage mode
2. Run the Windows Scan drive Utility
3. Run Windows Disk defragmenter
4. Format the Mass Storage drive using FAT32• Warn customer that all data will be deleted
5. Disconnect Nokia N81 from PC using Safely remove Hardware Utility
6. Format the Mass Storage device using the Nokia N81• To recreate the Symbian File system on the Mass Memory

Using Disk Error Checking
Warning! This can take a considerable time (15 mins +)
• Precondition: Nokia N81 is connected to the PC using USB Mass Storage mode
1. In Windows Explorer right click Mass Memory and select Properties
2. Select Check Now
3. Select Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
4. Click Start

Using your PC Defragmenter
• Precondition: Nokia N81 is connected to the PC using USB Mass Storage mode
1. In Windows Explorer right click Mass Memory and select Properties
2. Select Defragment Now
3. Choose MASS MEMORY (E) – the user may have renamed this drive
4. Select:
1. Analyze – to determine the extent of fragmentation
2. Defragment – to analyze and start defragmenter
