The Municipal District of Fairview No. 136 is located approximately 558 km north of Edmonton on Highway 43 and 90 km north of Grande Prairie on Highway 2. To enter the municipality from the south, you will cross the mighty Peace River on the Dunvegan Bridge, the longest gravity-anchored suspension bridge in Alberta. Crossing the “Gateway to the North” will bring you to the Historic Dunvegan Park and Interpretive Centre.

THE MAPLES

Pratts Landing is located on the shores of the Peace River, 26 river kilometers, 4 hours of paddling upstream from Dunvegan - if driving you can access this wilderness park from secondary highway 682, 32 km west of the Town of Fairview. There are 15 stalls with Fire pits, free firewood, and there is also a playground for the kids.

The Maples is a beautiful day use picnic area located on the west side of Dunvegan Bridge. It is located approximately 26 km south of the Town of Fairview on Highway 2. Visitors may investigate numerous stories about the fascinating history of this area by touring both parks. Historic Dunvegan was one of the first areas to be settled in the region. Along with great camping and picnic facilites, there are adjacent commercial gardens and gift shops to explore. The HIstoric Dunvegan Park has a wonderful campground with hook-ups for RV’s and Campers.

PRATTS LANDING

This region is the Music Festival Capital of Northern Alberta, with many festivals that take place from June to August. The Annual Bluefest is the 3rd Sunday in August in the hamlet of Bluesky located within the M.D. of Fairview No. 136, 9 km east of the Town of Fairview. There are many local musicians taking the stage, with lots of food and activities for the kids. The Fairview Amateur Rodeo happens the 3rd weekend in July, and the North Peace Bracket Racing Association holds drag races throughout the summer months at the Fairview Airpot located just 5 km west of Fairview, on Highway 34.

Fire & Rescue Society

The Fairview Fire and Rescue Society is a cooperative venture of the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department, Fairview EMS, and Fairview RCMP to work jointly towards fundraising and enhancing the safety and well-being of the community. There are also members on the society that are not associated to any of the local Emergency Services.

In addition to purchasing much needed equipment for the local Emergency Services, the society also makes donations to other worthwhile causes in the Fairview area, such as a yearly donation to STARS Air Ambulance (nearly $70,000 to date), EMS Safe Halloween, and supplying the School Zone speed reader boards. The Society also hosted the 1st Annual Emergency Services Ball, which will likely become a yearly event with contributions towards Victim Services. The amount of money raised by the FFRS for the continued safety of the community is into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.

If you are interested in more information about the FFRS, interested in making a donation, or would like to volunteer, please contact any of the local Emergency Services, or Chairperson Cpl. Brad GILES at 780-835-4031.

The Fairview Fire Department does a wide variety of community service such as a Toy and Food Drive and Fire Prevention Week which runs annually in October.

REMINDER! All households that have a smoke detector! Now is the time to check the batteries. To help you remember do it in the spring when Daylight Saving Time begins and in the fall when Daylight Saving Time ends!

SPRING CLEANINGSaturday, May 14th, 2011 &

Saturday, July 9th, 201110:00 am to 4:00 pm

Clean up streets, sidewalks, alleys, boulevards, parks, school yards!

WIN A PRIZE! Every filled garbage bag brought in qualifies you for one entry to win a prize: 20 Punch Family Pass to Fairview Regional Aquatic Centre ($160) Three-Volume Set of Fairview & District History Books ($130) Week Stay at Cummings Lake Campground ($100)

Draws will be made at 4:00 pm on May 14th, 2011 SECOND PITCH-IN - JULY 9 - SAME AS ABOVE

BOULEVARD SWEEPING Boulevard sweeping will be in progress in April and May. Watch for street closure signs which will be posted one day in advance. Please remove parked vehicles from streets when you see the sign. Parked vehicles will delay sweeping. Clear debris from around low trees to facilitate sweeping.

Each year, as we look forward to spring, it comes as a shock when snow melt reveals a spring mess. A pristine blanket

of snow has hidden months of careless littering. Cleanup is a must, and we sincerely thank those who step up to

do what needs to be done. The pay-back is day-to-day living in a clean, beautiful community which we can

be proud of. If the whole community “pitches in” a huge job can be completed in short order.

Meet in front of the arena to register and to get your garbage bag(s) and gloves.

Return with one or more filled garbage bags.

Or, why clutter the landfill with things someone else could use?

Put items out on your front lawn or driveway that you no longer need but someone else may. Then, drive or walk around town, have a look to see if others have something you need. If yes, take it, it’s free! At the same time, get to know the people in your community.

It’s win-win, green and fun!

Everythihg must be free. YOU must clean up at the end of the day. The Town will not pick up left items.

Please do not leave clutter on lawns. First come, first served.Items must be placed on your private property,

not town boulevards.
