General Registration Information: • Registration is on a first come, first serve

basis. • If a program does not have the minimum

number of participants registered two business days prior to the program’s start date, the program may be cancelled.

• In the instance of a program cancellation, a FULL refund will be issued in the form of original payment.

Payment: • We accept cash, debit, VISA or Master Card. • All fees must be paid in full at the time of

registration in order to secure a space in a program.

• Registrants eligible for L.I.F.E. Program subsidy must be authorized through Crystal Pool prior to program registration.

Welcome to Yet Another Lovely Season in Oaklands!

The arrival of Spring never fails to put a smile on my face and a twinkle in my eyes – not just because of the birds, flowers and warmer temperatures. More because the community of Oaklands comes out to play! Spring and Summer mean more time outside enjoying this beautiful neighbourhood of ours, meeting new people and sometimes even stepping outside of our comfort zone to try something new.

Let this Spring and Summer Activity Guide bring about the same for you. Our programs – new and old – will give you the opportunity to spend time outside, meet your neighbours, stretch and play. Our awesome instructors will engage you. Like our superstar Yoga teachers Tanya and Nicole who live in Oaklands and between them teach 6-8 programs yearlong. I love that Oaklands residents are sharing their knowledge and expertise with each other through our Community Centre. Look for Tanya’s outdoor yoga classes starting at the end of June...and then join in!

Do you have knowledge and expertise to share? Get in touch with Allieren Ward, our Programs Coordinator. We want to support Oaklands residents learning from each other. Just as important to us at Oaklands is the feedback you, our community, give us. Please let us know your ideas, how we can support you and what you’d like to see offered in your community. If you have the time to give us, we’d love to have you volunteer at our events, in our programs or at the Markets. Come see us and find out how we can work together to see Oaklands thrive!

Thank you to our great community partners and sponsors who help make our programs and special events possible!

RemoveandReuse.com is an online classified site focused on promoting and enabling the reusing, repurposing, and recycling of building materials and supplies. Last summer Remove and Reuse teamed up with the Oaklands

Sunset Market by building furniture for the beer garden that was made of 100% reclaimed lumber! Not only did Stefan and Chris create an amazing ambiance with their upcycled outdoor living rooms but they also

dedicated themselves to personally assembling their furniture every week for all to enjoy.

Get your VTAG Paint Out Kit at Oaklands Community Centre

The VTAG program is a volunteer program formed by residents who wish to improve the appearance of their neighbourhoods by painting out graffiti on power poles along their streets.

Oaklands Community Centre has partnered with VTAG by making kits available at the Community Centre. Each kit contains 2 quarts of paint, a paint brush, stir stick, can opener, gloves and a scraper. Volunteers simply need to read and sign a safety checklist and indicate which area they wish to help remediate.

VTAG aims to recruit members of the public to take responsibility for their communities. The program is also meant to inform residents of the proper protocol to RECORD, REPORT and REMOVE graffiti.

If you would like to pick up a VTAG kit, please drop by the centre during business hours or call the centre for more information 250.370.9101. For more information about the VTAG program please contact the VTAG Volunteer Program Coordinator: [email protected]
