The first commercial design class project was to participate in a competition, which was presented by Metropolis Magazine and Business Interiors by Staples.

My concept was “Pendulum Effect. “ Humans’ actions decide the design of a space, and a space can affect humans’ actions and reactions. This is a mutual effect, just like “Pendulum Effect.” My concept reflects in this project: people adjust space for different actions, and actions are affected by interior spaces. For this office, the interior design is “spaces affect actions, and actions create spaces,” and it is highly modular, with multifunctional workstations or an open conference space. Those areas can be used when people need them, this is “actions create spaces.” Moreover, through the different height of floors, people have to move their feet to either go up or down; this is “spaces affect actions.”

This workstation is a customized design piece for this project. Since the office will be built in the future, we need to think about the network between people. This workstation is good for group projects, and it also can be used as a small informal presentation area. The materials are glass, particleboard and metal. Glass is used for cabinet doors; particleboard is mainly used in this system, and metal is used for legs. Glass doors can also be used as white boards.

Chinese Letter of “People“

The goal for the design firm, Chi Studio, is to bring harmonious, highly comfortable, and sophisticated interior design to clients. The studio is based on the desire of creating an individual design for every client. Human beings are the center of actions: actions will refl ect in spaces, and design will affect reactions of humans. People will be the main consideration of designs. To make their career more successful, Chi Studio has a furniture design department to customize furniture to have unique aesthetic objects in spaces.

Chi Studio will develop as a green business. Beyond using green materials, Chi Studio encourages employers to keep sustainable practices in their daily office. For the space, it will be open space without solid panels. The first reason is bringing the sunlight into the office; and the second is to break down the dividers for more sharing and brainstorming opportunities.
