The world’s first 100% hydrogen continuous anneal line for automotive steel.

Available on a toll processing basis.

Coming to HyCAL Corp. in late 2016:

Coming in 2016: North America’s first 100% hydrogen continuous annealing line for UHSS/AHSS.

The first of its kind in the world, the new CA line for steel at HyCAL Corp. will use an optimized blend of hydrogen – rather than water – for quenching to produce AHSS grades including: DP (dual phase), TRIP, Martensitic, Q & P and other grades from 580MPa-1700 MPa yield strength.

Water quench = waste. Hydrogen quench = profit.

Due to the superior quenching control of our optimized hydrogen blend, the new CA line will deliver 95% prime yield with superior and incomparable flatness. No water is used in the process so there is no potato chipping and no post anneal shape correction is needed. Your material will be flat right off the CA line.

Stop wasting money with product produced in water quenching lines.

HyCAL Corp. makes it easy.

There is considerable pressure to deliver tomorrow’s high strength automotive steels today. But rather than rush into a huge CA line investment or use product produced in a water quench CA line, you can use the new HyCAL Corp. CA line to help you determine:

• The products you want to provide to the market

• The process that gives you the best results

• The markets you want to venture into

• The true size of the market

And you can do it all on a pure toll processing basis. With no risk and no investment.

100% hydrogen continuous anneal delivers 95% prime steel with incomparable flatness.

Ebner pioneered the use of 100% hydrogen in batch annealing and now is changing the game again with hydrogen quenching for continuous annealing. Hydrogen delivers more consistent properties and shape and much higher yields than standard water quenched lines.

Ebner H2 Quench systems are currently being utilized at:

• Numerous Harden and Temper Lines throughout the world [up to 550 mm or 21.7”]

• Mini CAL – in Germany for DP grades [800 mm or 31.5”]

• Dozens of stainless bright anneal lines worldwide [up to 1600 mm or 63”]

Automotive wide strip applications:• Ebner has provided aluminum processing

lines for automotive products to all the major aluminum producers worldwide

• A premier exposed automotive galvanizing/galvannealing line in Europe

Hydrogen quenching eliminates the shape rejections that are typical with water quench processes.

Flatness is guaranteed for most gauge, width and grade combinations.

Lose the water and get considerably more useable material from every coil.

Stop watering down your yields.

Hydrogen innovation continues to change

the world.

MATERIAL: COLD-ROLLED

FULL HARD STEEL STRIP

Processing capacity: 109,000 mt/year (120,000 USt/year)

Effective production time: 6,400 h/year

Width: 610 to 1,219 mm (24” to 48”)

Thickness: 0.50 to 2.29 mm (0.02” to 0.09”)

Throughput capacity: max. 18.2 mt/h (20.1 USt/h)

Hydrogen atmosphere: more uniform heat dissipation

Quench Section provides quenching flexibility

Can reheat the strip up to 1,022° F or not be utilized at all depending on target properties

Hydrogen gas coolingresults in 95% prime yield and dead flat material

Up to 100% martensite

Heating section: max. 980°C (1,796°F)

Unique quench patterns possible to meet complex UHSS/AHSS and next generation AHSS

Examples:• 1,500 M cycle

developed for the furnace does not utilize any heat in the overaging zone

Dial in precise cooling across the entire strip profile, width and length

Dual Phases – with varying volume fraction of ferrite and martensite

Transformation section: max. 550°C (1,022°F)

Slow Cooling Zone after the furnace

• 980 DP cycle developed for the furnace utilizes an overaging zone temperature of 824° F for 60 seconds

Can totally control the cooling process and engineer the strip to exact properties

No water is used for quenching, eliminating shape problems (potato chipping)

Hydrogen quench results in cleaner strip with more precise properties across the entire strip.

TRIP’s and Complex phase – with varying volume fraction of martensite, bainite, retained austenite, & ferrite

155 single end recuperative radiant tubes

Jet Cooler offers varied cooling rates

There is little microstructural change in the overaging zone, only tempering and diffusion

Strip exit temperature: <82°C (180°F)

Quench can be interrupted for tailored microstructure [e.g. stop at bainite nose for QP steel or for partially transforming to martensite & retain austenite]
