The unique coating formulation uses specialpigments to provide superior UV resistanceand ensure the product retains itsdistinguished matt colour. These alsocontribute to the long-term durability of theproduct.

At the end of its life Colorcoat Urban® caneasily be recycled with no additional burdento the environment.

Peace of mindThe long-term performance of Colorcoat® pre-finished steel has been recognised by theBBA who state that the “coating and metaltreatment will protect for a period in excess of40 years in normal urban, suburban and ruralenvironments.”

Colorcoat Urban® has been developed torequire little to no maintenance to provide complete peace of mind.

All paint solvents are recycled through anincineration system to provide heat for theovens and reduce the amount of natural gasused in the advanced curing process. TataSteel are also the first steel business to secureBES 6001 Responsible Sourcing certification,and this has been obtained for all Colorcoat®products.

Cradle to CradleTata Steel has carefully measured the impactsof a Colorcoat Urban® pre-finished steelcladding system throughout its life fromcradle to cradle.

Colorcoat Urban® has been developed usingeco-design principles, aimed at minimisingthe environmental impact of the productfrom raw material production all the waythrough to re-use or recycling.

Eco designThe focus for Colorcoat Urban® has been onusing raw materials with a lowerenvironmental impact than required bylegislation. As such heavy metals andunnecessary fire retardants have not beenused in the topcoat. We have also selectedhigh performing alternatives to undesirableorganotin stabilisers and phthalate plasticisers.

The steel used in Colorcoat Urban® is 100%recyclable with zero degradation in materialsproperties when recycled – unlike nearly all ofthe other construction materials. It alsocontains more than 25% recycled steelcontent. All manufacturing processes arecarefully controlled to the highestenvironmental quality standards and are ISO14001 certified.

This Level 4 home in Ebbw Vale shares passive house principals, reducing energy consumption andillustrating the simple integration of solar technology.

AESTHETICS AND FORMChoosing the right profile for Colorcoat Urban® is crucial, particularly inrelation to the size of the building. For 1-4 storey urban roofs the smallstanding seam, either traditionally formed or using the innovative Urban Seam® profile, is ideal for creating a fantastic modern aesthetic.

Urban roofsTraditionally formed or Urban Seam® standingseam profile are the ideal choice for low riseand residential roofs. The roofs are finishedwith crisp, neat detailing to a scale that issuitable to the building size.

The profiles are applicable over a substructureof a fully boarded out truss, SIPs and fullyboarded out metal frame construction.

Examples of building typographies include 1-4storey houses, low rise apartments, 1-4 storeypublic and commercial buildings, schools andsports pavilions.

Large urban roofsA range of popular insulated and un-insinuated profiled systems includingstanding seam and concealed fix are available.
