I often communicate how appreciative I am of our staff and the current situation is just another example of why I hold them all in such high regards. We are doing our best to keep the community informed of constant updates and we are continually implementing increased tidying and hygiene practices in our schools to limit the spread of germs including viruses in our school community. All students have their own learning space and tote trays with books and equipment they need. We have stringent hygiene procedures in place and our staff have worked hard to ensure our children are informed and feel safe and cared for regarding Covid-19. As well as these vital elements, our teachers and school staff have continued to provide engaging education that covers all key learning areas as well as social skills and wellbeing while working through “social distancing”. The staff and I would like to thank our parents and carers for their support, keeping children home when they are unwell, trusting we are doing our best to keep their children healthy and working with us to give our children the same messages. We aren’t sure what’s ahead but be assured we are continually discussing, planning and preparing for various scenarios to provide quality education for your children. We empathise with those who are and will suffer difficulties through this time. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We have cancelled all events where groups of people are coming together, e.g. swimming carnival, cross country, combined school bands and choirs, excursions, assemblies and Student Led Conference. If you have any concerns regarding your child’s education, your teacher will happily discuss this with you over the phone. We hope to run many of these events later in the year. We will continue to receive EOIs regarding the Y3, 4, 5, 6 Lake Ainsworth Camp as it is in the last week of Term 3.

The festival will involve around 1000 students from around 30 public schools in the Lismore area. It is run by teachers, mostly on a voluntary basis, to provide our students with a high-quality performance experience to further their studies in arts programs. This year we again will participate in three categories. - school dance item - combined concert band - combined small school’s choir The dance item will be choreographed and overseen by Mrs Slee. Notes for the dance item will be issued early in Term 2. The Concert Band and Small Schools’ Choir notes were distributed last week to students in Years 4, 5 and 6 who have either been nominated by Miss Fiona (band) or indicated an interest in participating (choir). There is a small fee for participation and there will be rehearsal days throughout the next two terms. 5-6 Class news The 5-6 class have been experimenting with volcanoes and this week, Aggie and Max brought in their experiments. Part of the process is explaining how you make the volcano and what you use to cause the eruption. Although there have been varying results, there is always opportunities to learn.

A letter from Mish Well last week I was off sick with a cold and I am recovered now, yay! I was looking forward to teaching this Wednesday but I seem to be agonising about what’s right for the greater good. This quote helped me decide: "Social isolation is not an act of fear, it is an act of love." I'm aware that I have your payments and will arrange catch-ups or credits, however it works for you. I hope you understand my decision, and as soon as I know, I will be in contact about lessons in the future.

Love & light, Mish Songsmith

Clunes OSHC With all the uncertainty now in the world, at Clunes OSHC this week we tried to embrace the grossness of being sick by creating edible snot. The children had source the instruction from the internet than follow the instruction and adapt them where we didn’t have the correct ingredients and help and model to the younger children how to make the slime. It was an interesting response from the children some children were excited to “gross out” there friends and family while other couldn’t even look at it. We maintained a high level of hygiene whilst doing this activity children made an individual portion and didn’t share the resulting goop.

We are encouraging children to follow hygiene practices that the school has already put in place, washing hands before afternoon tea and after blowing noses, touching faces and going to the toilet. Elbow bumps have become the new high five. Hand sanitiser is available at the sign on desk. This week will create a new hand washing song and practice hand washing properly. This week we experiment with spray painting and mixing colours. The children created pictures with pools of colours that than dripped over the paper. At this stage we will still be open for Vacation Care and hope to have the program out next week. We are starting to take Vacation Care bookings so please call or email to secure your child’s place. We still have spaces for afterschool care. If you would like your children to attend after school care please Call or text us on 0437 362 834 or email us [email protected]. Thanks From Laura, Tom and the Team

What memories are your family making this weekend?

Try something new like: - Building and flying a kite - Catch and release some bugs or tadpoles - Handball competitions - Take a family walk somewhere new

The recommendations are that children should spend at least 60 minutes undertaking huff and puff physical activity and spend no more than 2 hours per day watching screens.
