As instructed by the Department of Education, the reports will not be providing an A to E scale for achievement or a 1 to 5 scale for effort, as the usual semester teaching and learning cycles have been greatly disrupted. We will also not be reporting on the learning from home period which was up to 37 days for some students. This is to prevent any judgement on a child’s access to curriculum or the family’s capacity to support them during this time. Student achievement will be marked as one of Developing, Satisfactory or Commendable. As always, we encourage parents and carers to look closely at the ‘Effort’ grading as this gives you an indication if your child is working to their full potential. Having said this, none of us fully understand the extent of the impact from what we have been through over the last few months. Teachers have observed some children taking a number of weeks to settle back into school life and their new classrooms. There have been some shifts in dynamics and friendships as we have all come together while still abiding by current restrictions. We congratulate all our students on their resilience and the acts of kindness they show each other. We thank all our families for the amazing supportive environment they created for their children, making the most of the quality family time imposed. I would like to thank the teachers for their adaptability and professionalism as they responded to rapid and unforeseen changes. We are fortunate to live in a school community where everyone did their best to accept their new roles during this time. We have one week of Term Two remaining. It has been an intense time with a number of people falling ill to colds and viruses. Staff are working hard to plan future stimulating and challenging learning programs to inspire our students while still adhering to DET restrictions regarding volunteers and non-essential visitors.

SENDING BEST WISHES TO JOHN MORTIMER Our wonderful cleaner, John Mortimer, is suffering from ill health (not Covid-19 related) and may not return to school at this stage. We wish him a speedy recovery and want him to know we are all thinking of him. John has been amazing during our enhanced cleaning period working huge hours, meticulously cleaning and going beyond his role to help us. We currently have a casual cleaner while ISS find a longer term cleaner to replace John during his leave. SURVEYING TO HELP DRIVE DIRECTIONS We are currently surveying our students and staff regarding Semester One matters.

We had a great response for our parent survey during the remote learning period and your honest feedback was helpful. We will survey our parents again next Semester. Michelle Slee Principal

Clunes OSHC Tom has had his building materials out this week at Clunes OSHC and the children have been creating sling shots for pompoms. The children had to follow all

the safety rules when using the tools and Tom demonstrated how to use them. The children had to tie knots in rubber bands (not an easy task) to make the sling and experimented with the tension to make the pompoms fly.

We continued to work with fabric and wool this week. The children created scary hand sculptures with a wire template and fabric scraps. The result was so lifelike that it scared me when I came to work the next day. We have also been working on god’s eyes and beanies using the beanie makers which are a large knitting Nancy. The Vacation care programs where sent out by email this week and is attached to this newsletter. Days are starting to fill up so if you would like some vacation care days or an afterschool care booking please Call or text us on 0437 362 834 or email us [email protected].
