WOW! The 3rd nine weeks is over and

there is still much to do before the school

year ends. As I arrive every day, I am excited

to see the great things that are taking place

at Boushall.

As you know, Standards of Learning (SOL)

testing begins the 12th of May. Teachers have

been reviewing test taking strategies all year

as well as reminding students of the im-

portance of getting a good night’s sleep the night before the test. On test morning chil-

dren should have a good breakfast and come

to school ready to do their best. The testing

schedule has been posted on our website,

letters were sent home and calls were made

to the parents. It is extremely important that

your child attend school on time the days

his/her tests are scheduled. Children absent

on a scheduled test day will need to make up

that test. We are confident that all of our

students will use effective effort during their

testing.

Boushall teachers as we celebrate Teacher

Appreciation Week from May 4-8. While

everyone works hard at Boushall, our teach-

ers are with the children each day and do an

extraordinary job. They work many hours

ensuring that all of our students’ needs are

met and their efforts are much appreciated!

Please consider having your child write a

thank you note to his/her teacher.

May 6th is Nurse Appreciation Day. With

over 600 students in our school, Nurse Aus-

tin does an amazing job of caring for students

with health issues.

Our students continue to make us proud.

Three students placed at the FCCLA confer-

ence, three at the District History Project

Fair, and at the Nationwide Hershey Park

competition our choir placed second while

the band came in third! Thanks for all you

do! Your support is an essential part of your

child’s success.

WOW! Ya terminó el tercer periodo de clases y

todavía hay mucho que hacer antes de terminar

el año escolar . Me emociono cuando llego a la

escuela y veo los grandes adelantos que se están

llevando a cabo en Boushall. Las pruebas de las

Normas de Aprendizaje (SOL ) comienzan el 11

de mayo. Los maestros durante todo el año, han

estado repasando con los estudiantes las estrate-

gias para tomar exámenes, recordarles de la

importancia de dormir bien la noche anterior del

examen, comer un buen desayuno la mañana del

examen y llegar a la es-cuela a tiempo y prepara-

dos para hacer su mejor esfuerzo. Pueden encon-

trar las fechas de las pruebas en nuestra página

web. También se enviarán cartas a su casa y

recibirán una llama-da telefónica con información

importante sobre las pruebas. Es muy importante

que su hijo asista a la escuela a tiempo para

tomar su prueba en las fechas indicadas. Los

niños(as) ausentes tendrán que reponer sus pruebas. Estamos seguros de que todos nuestros

estudiantes harán su mejor esfuerzo durante

estas pruebas.

El 6 de mayo es el Día de las enfermeras. Con

más de 600 alumnos de nuestra escuela, nuestra

enfermera, la Sra. Austin, cuida a los estudiantes

con problemas de salud con increíble dedicación.

Estamos orgullosos de los nuevos logros de nues-

tros estudiantes. Tres ganaron premios en la

conferencia de FCCLA. Otros tres alumnos

también ganaron premios en la Feria de Distrito

de Historia, En la competencia Nacional de músi-

ca en Hershey Park, nuestro coro ganó segundo

lugar y la banda ganó tercer lugar.

The new Family, Career, Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter of Boushall Middle School, had three students place at their first Virginia State Conference. Ii’Jeana James, an 8th grader and our FCCLA 2014-2015 President, competed in the recycle and redesign category. It is an individual event that recognizes participants who apply recycling and redesign skills learned in Family and Consumer Sci-ences courses and create a display using a sample of their skills. Ii’Jeana created a skirt out of recycled chip bag recycled

by the whole school. She placed gold.

Jaime Gerardo and Jose Ramirez, 8th graders, competed as a group in the entrepreneurship category, that recog-nizes participants who develop a plan for a small business using Family and Consumer Sciences skills and sound business practices. The business must relate to an area of Family and Con-sumer Sciences education or related occupations. They created a company called My4everPillow which earned them a bronze medal and the oppor-tunity to represent Boushall at the National FCCLA conference in Wash-ington, DC. We are very proud of the students and looking forward to Na-

tionals and next year’s competition.

Nuestro nuevo capítulo de la Asociación de Lideres de Familias, Carreras y la Comunidad (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America—FCCLA) tuvo tres estudiantes ga-nadores en su primera Conferencia Estatal de Virginia. Ii’Jeana James, estudiante de 8vo grado, y presidenta de la FCCLA de Boushall 2014-2015, compitió en la categoría de reciclaje y rediseño donde se reconoce a los participantes que crean una exibición, donde se aplican las habilidades de reciclaje y rediseño aprendidas en el curso de La Familia y Ciencias del Con-sumidor. Ii’Jeana creo una falda de bolsas de chips recicladas. Las bolsas fueron recicladas por

toda la escuela. Ella ganó el premio de oro.

If you thought that the school media center is a boring place, then you have not visited the Boushall Media Center. As you walk in you see kids engaged in a varie-ty of activities, n an environment bursting with new things to discover. Book circulation has increased sub-stanciallly. Avid readers compete for Patron of the quarter. You never know what Ms. Hass, our media specialist will come up with next. This year she has added Bessie our Media Center manaquin who greets our students in her fashionable garb. Ms. Hass makes the Media Center an inviting environment for our chil-dren and we are very fortunate to have her. She's is outstanding and has helped us to become an even

better school."

Cuan-do entras veerás los niños envuertos en diversas actividades, en un ambiente lleno de información nueva para descubrir. La Sra Hass, nuestra bibli-otecaria, siempre tiene planeado algo original, intersante e exitante,. Este año, ella introdujo a Bessie, un maniquin con mucha personalidad, quien aluda a nuestros estudiantes a la biblioteca, vestida en ropa del tema de la semana. Sra. Hass ha logrado hacer la biblioteca un lugar divertida y somos afor-

tunados tenerla en nuestra escuela.

Eagle Ambassadors visit the General Assembly building to attend the Rule Of Law

Program.The mission of the Virginia Bar Association "Rule of Law Project" is to

fundamentally change the way students learn about the rule of law as the basis of

all of our rights and responsibilities as American citizens.

Richmond Public Schools hosted its City-Wide History Fair in March. Boushall had three winners: Nina Bartlett, 8th grader, placed 1st in the Interactive History Category and Emilio Cisnero and Mateo Ascencio., 7th graders placed 3rd in the Re-search Category. Our students com-peted against against middle and high

school students across the district!
