Time flies when you are having fun. Second quarter benchmarks indicate that we are making strong gains in some areas but need to work harder in others. As we move into the second semester, I am urging all parents to please take a more active roll in their child’s academic success. Please reinforce the impor-tance of coming to school “ready to learn”! The teach-ers are working diligently to ensure that Boushall Middle School becomes not only accredited, but the premier choice school of the city of Richmond.
I am very proud of the suc-cesses our students have achieved thus far: our boy’s basketball team is number one in our district going into the finals. Our team will hopefully win the championship title. Two of our students Jessica Rami-rez and Majia Singleton placed first and third in our essay contest sponsored by DuPont, and Boushall won two places in the district History Fair. We are on a winning streak and I want to keep it that way all the way to the SOLs. Boushall Eagles are soaring. W.Abed

I Station
Ice cream parties are being held every month for all our
I Station students in Tier 1. I station is a computer reading intervention pro-gram designed to
assist each student in improving read-ing comprehension.
The ice cream is provided by our Truancy Depart-
ment. Each student has the ability to
move to Tier 1 read-ing level by focus-
ing on the interven-tion lessons and
completing ninety minutes of com-
puter instruction.
If somebody asks me what the theme, “Share the Legacy, Shape the Future: Dreams Really Do Come
True”, means to me, I would have so many things to say. “Share the Legacy” to me means two things.
The first thing it is saying to me is that you should remember your loved ones and tell about the legacy
they left behind. The second thing that comes to mind is “think of how you want to be remembered”. If
you want a legacy that you want, such as a good, bad, or loved legacy, you should achieve it if you want it.
When legacies die it is because people who knew it never shared it. We have to keep legacies alive to
remember the ones we love, the ones that are important to us. “Shape the future” means to me that we,
the kids right now, are going to be adults that will make the mistakes and solve problems that we are in
right now. We are going to raise and show the kids of the next generation how to take care of them-
selves into their adulthood. The adults will show us what to do in a different type of situation and will
give us new ideas that will help our future be easier, create a better country, and a better and safer
earth. We are all on earth for a reason that has an answer that is either scientific or religious. When I
hear the phrase “Dreams really do come true,” it is telling me that we are all can accomplish everything
if we put our minds to it. Anyone can become anything they want to be. Sometimes people don‟t follow
their dreams because there is a small or big obstacle that stands in their way. Sometimes there are
many things that can be accomplished if you put 100% into it. Sometime just hearing those words are
what inspires me to keep moving forward even in the darkest hour.
That‟s what I think of the theme “Share the Legacy, Shape the Future: Dreams Really do Come True!”
By Jessica Ramirez, 7th grader, 3rd place
Winners of the DuPont Share the Legacy,
Shape the Future: Dreams Really
Do Come True Essay Contest
Majia Singleton 1st place and Jessica Ramirez 3rd
place were honored by DuPont, on January 19th,
along with our principal Ms. W. Abed and our
CIS site coordinator Ms. D. Routier.
Martin Luther King, Jr. had a dream. A dream
that blacks and whites could sit down and enjoy each other, talk to each other and be friends with each
other, He had a dream that blacks and whites (men, women and children of all races) could go to the
same schools, live in the same neighborhoods, work and even eat at the same restaurants together. Well
Dr. King, your dream came true and I am glad it did. We can do anything we set our minds to when we
work together as one, as equals. Martin Luther King, Jr. is a role model for me. I know that my dreams
can come true too. I can do anything that I put my mind to. I can be anything that I want to be, go any-
where I want to go in life as long as I stick to it and never quit. We the children of the universe shape the
future of tomorrow. We are the future! Teachers, parents, family and adults are helping mold us into the
next generation. Many people say that children today are so lucky. I use to wonder… is that a food thing?
I now realize after learning about the times my grandparents and great aunts and uncles lived in were
harder for them than it is for us. I have accomplished the things that I have dreamed of so far. When I
was 2 years old I told my mom that I wanted to be a cheerleader. I have been a cheerleader since I was
4 years old. I currently play baseball and I aspire to be on a track team and become a boxer as well . I
know I can do all these things and be a great athlete as long as I continue to work hard and NEVER give
up. I strive and continue to get good grades in school to help me achieve my biggest and greatest goal,
which is to become a teacher and help shape the future of the next generation. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
my mother, my grandfather, my uncles and aunts and all of my other family members are all roll models,
they‟re my role models. I too am a role model as well, to my younger brother and 2 younger sisters and
other little children. I know that the things that I do leaves an impression on them, so I set a good exam-
ple for them to follow. I am proud to be a role model to them, to me that means that one day they too will
be a roll model to someone as well. Thank you, Martin Luther King Jr. for believing in your dream. If it
wasn‟t for you, I wouldn‟t have the opportunity to accomplish the dreams that have. I wouldn‟t be able
to vote and President Obama wouldn‟t be our president.
