2005 FONZ ANNUAL REPORT • EXECUTIVE SUMMARY2005 FONZ ANNUAL REPORT • EXECUTIVEEXECUTIVE S SUMMARY

All told, in 2005, FONZ provided direct cash support

to the Zoo in the amount of $4.9 million. This amount

came from funds raised through the special events and

programs such as those just mentioned, as well as from

concessions and parking net income and donations

from individuals, corporations, and foundations. In

addition to providing funds for Zoo projects, FONZ also

supports the Zoo by managing and operating the majority

of the Zoo’s in-park programs and outreach efforts.

These operations include education, volunteer, and

membership programs, visitor services such as information

aides, special events, website management, and the

promotion of Zoo events and programs. In 2005, the cost

of these staff-provided services totaled $2.6 million. Thus,

including cash support and FONZ staff services—totaled

about $7.5million.

well as a planned new habitat for our Asian elephants,

will transform the top of the Zoo in coming years. 2005

provided an important foundation for these initiatives, one

upon which FONZ will build as we continue to support the

Zoo and its revitalization under a new master plan that will

be developed in 2006.

E MAGZ COVER STORY

20 E MAGAZINEAPRIL 2012 21

SH: I love going to the beach. The most beautiful beach

I’ve ever been to is Boracay in the Phillipines.

: Fashion is such an international industry. Do you feel

that with your work?

SH: Absoultely, and you can see that everytime you’re

at a show or on a shoot. The models, the make-up, the

photographers and the designers – everyone is from a

different place, and I feel really lucky to spend so much

time with so many interesting people from all parts of the

world.

: Do you have a favorite place?

SH: I love anywhere where my friends are!

: Do you get to go home often?

SH: Not really. But I try not to think about it too much.

: What do you miss most from home?

SH: My papa and my mama.

: Oh no! It’s because you’re working so much! Let’s

talk a little bit about your career. How were you

discovered?

SH: I was the winner of a national modeling competition

at the age of 17, before I entered into a modeling career. I

was still a high school student back then.

: Okay, that’s amazing. Did you ever think about

fashion as a career, or even an industry?

SH: I never really thought about it as a career. I initially

only wanted to try out modeling as just an experience. I

thought it would be something fun to try, but I never

thought about it becoming a job.

: When did you frist come to New York, and what were

your rst impressions?

SH: I rst came to New York in January, 2011, for

fashion week. My rst impression was that the weather

was really cold. The city was very diverse and I felt free

being in the city. I live in the Lower East Side now, and I

love it.

: Did you have fun working with us? What was your

impression of Terry?

SH: Yes! I loved this shoot. The background music set

the perfect atmosphere. It was surprisingly easy for me to

work with a top notch photographer like Terry. He was

lovely, super nice, and made me feel comfortable.

: Have you had any photo shoots or jobs that you

really loved? Any good stories?

SH: I recently did a shoot for Vogue China’s sixth

anniversary with Inez and Vinoodh. There were six of us

on the cover, and we were all wearing different colorful

dresses. Based on the ressed we all named each other

different nicknames, like Mermaide, Lotus Lady and

Heroine. It made for a really enjoyable shoot, and I’ll never

forget it.

: What about catwalk shows? Do you like them?

SH: Oh, yes. I love catwalk. I feel really condence and I

love being a center of attention. That feels good.

ombok is an island in West Nusa Tenggara ( Nusa

Tenggara Barat or NTB ) province, Indonesia. It

forms part of the chain of the Lesser Sunda

Islands, with the Lombok Strait separating it from Bali to

the west and the Alas Strait between it and Sumbawa to

the east. It is roughly circular, with a " tail " ( Sekotong

Peninsula ) to the southwest, about 70 km across and a

total area of about 4,725 km² ( 1,825 sq mi ).

The provincial capital and largest city on the island is

Mataram. It is somewhat similar in size and density with

neighboring Bali and shares some cultural heritage, but is

administratively part of NTB along with sparsely

populated Sumbawa. It is surrounded by a number of

smaller islands locally called Gili. The island is home to

some 3.16 million Indonesians as recorded in the

decennial 2010 census, and in 4 regencies along with the

provincial capital Mataram.

• THE UNDISCOVERED PARADISE

Tourism is an important source of income on Lombok.

The most developed tourism area of the island is on the

west coast of the island and is centered about the

L

township of Senggigi. The immediate

surrounds of the township contain

the most developed tourism facilities.

The west coast coastal tourism strip

is spread along a 30 kilometres strip

following the coastal road north from

Mataram and the nearby currently

airport at Ampenan.

The principal tourism area extends to

Tanjung in the northwest at the foot

of Mount Rinjani and includes the Sire

and Medana Peninsulas and the high

highly popular Gili Islands lying

immediately offshores. These three

small islands are most commonly

accessed by boat from Bangsal near

Pemenang, Teluk Nare a little to the

south, or from further south at Senggigi and the Mangsit

beach. A large number of hotels and resorts in Lombok

offer accommodations ranging from budget to luxurious.

Recently direct fast boat services have been running from

Bali making a direct connection to the Gili islands.

Although rapidly changing in character, the Gili islands still

provide both a lay-back backpacker's retreat and a high

class resort destination. Other tourist destinations include

Mount Rinjani, Gili Bidara, Gili Lawang, Narmada Park

and Mayura Park and Kuta ( distinctly different from Kuta,

Bali ). The Kuta area is also famous for its beautiful, large

deserted, white sand beaches. Sekotong, in southwest

Lombok, is popular for its numerous and diverse scuba

diving locations. The South Lombok surng is considered

some of the best in the world and includes Desert Point

at Banko Banko in the southwest of the island.

The northern west coast near Tanjung has many new

upmarket hotel and villa developments centreed about

the Sire and Medana peninsular nearby to the Gili islands

and a new boating marina at Medana bay. These new

developments complement the already existing 5 star

resorts and a large golf course already established there.

The years leading up to 2010 has seen

a rapid revival and promotion of tourism

recovery in the tourism industry. The big

number of visitors has far surpassed the

pre-2000 levels. All the signs indicate the

long term trend will see a steadyincrease

in the number of visitor arrivals.

Both the local government and many of residents

recognise that tourism and services related to tourism will

continue to be a major source of income for the island.

The island's natural beauty and the customary hospitality

of its residents make it an obvious tourist destination.

Lombok retains the allure of an undeveloped and natural

environment. Tourism visits to this tropical island are

increasing again as both international and local tourists

are re-discovering the charms of Lombok. With this new

interest comes the development of a number of boutique

resorts on the island providing quality accommodation,

food and drinks in near proximity to relatively unspoiled

countryside.

The Indonesian government is actively promoting both

Tourist development started in the

mid-1980s, when Lombok attracted

attention as an 'unspoiled' alternative to

Bali. Initially, low budget bungalows

proliferated at places like the Gili islands

and Kuta, Lombok on the South Coast.

Lombok and neighboring Sumbawa as

Indonesia's number two tourism

destination after Bali. The President of

Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono,

the Ministry of Cultural and Tourism and

the regional Governor have made public

statements supporting the development

of Lombok as a tourism destination and

setting a goal of 1 million visitors

annually by the year 2012 for the

combined destination of Lombok and

Sumbawa.

This has seen infrastructure

improvements to the island including

road upgrades and the construction of

a much delayed new International

airport in the islands south.

The Council of Fashion Designers of the America

honored Kate Moss, who often appears nude in photo

graphs, for her fashion sense. During the early 1990s,

Moss fueled the craze for waish models, showing off

her exceptionally slim frame in controversial ads for

Calvin Klein fragrances. In recent years, though, Moss,

31, became a mother and has become well known for

setting trends in her classically eclectic British style.

Among the items Moss popularized are the now

ubiquitous Ugg Australia boots and the much coveted

Balenciaga handbag. She’s modeled for many of the

top fashion houses, including Chanel and Burberry.

David Bowie was to present Moss with her style icon

award Monday night at a black-tie gala at Manhattan’s

public library.

• KATE MOSS STYLE

Moss ushered in the heroin chic look in 1993 ( which

prompted much speculation over her weight ) with a

highly publicised campaign for Calvin Klein. Her charm

in photographs also drew criticism from then-President

of the United States Bill Clinton, who spoke out against

the growing heroin chic trend.

She has garnered many awards for her style, including

the Council of Fashion Designers of America's fashion

inuence award and a place on the Vanity Fair magz

international best-dressed list. In the early part of the

21st century, she was, together with actress Sienna

Miller, one of the main proponents of boho-chic. She

appears on the cover of Vanity Fair's September 2006

style issue. In recent years, she has popularised denim

cutoff shorts, Ugg boots, ballet ats, Vivienne West

wood Pirate Boots, skinny jeans, waistcoat, Alexander

McQueen's skull scarf, the Louis Vuitton's Sprouse

Leopard Cashmere Scarf, and the Balenciaga bags.

• CAMPAIGNS

Moss has had campaigns with major Italian, French,

American, and British designers including Gucci, Dolce

& Gabbana, Calvin Klein, Chanel, Rimmel, and Bulgari.

She has been featured in fashion spreads in most

major fashion magazines including UK, US, and French

Vogue magazines, Another Man, Vanity Fair, the Face,

and W. Moss has appeared on the cover of British

Vogue 30 times.

In addition to dozens of other international Vogue magz

covers, and has been featured on the cool cover of 17

issues of W mag, including one issue with nine different

covers that featured the model. W magz even names

Moss its muse ( September 2003 issue ). She has work

with the most well-known photographers in the fashion

industry, such as Mario Testino, Juergen Teller, and
