WHAT MAKES SUCCESS AT POST-16?

Choose the right subjects

+Work hard!

CHOOSE THE RIGHT SUBJECTS

•3 or 4 subjects based on GCSE results – it could be better to do just 3

•Offers are A, B or C (C is a guided offer)

•Summer homework will let students know if they really like a subject

•Bear in mind plans for university (facilitating subjects)

•Be realistic - GCSE results don’t lie!

WORK HARD6th Form is a student’s job! Students MUST commit themselves to:•Minimum 40 hours per week of work (like a job!)•100% attendance and punctuality (like a job!)

All homework must be at their target grade – or do it again!Charter College must be the #1 priority in their life

Students need to use their increased freedom responsibly

REINVENT YOURSELF!•Start as you mean to go on•The first five weeks of the first term will define what happens in the next two years•There is very limited flexibility to change subjects once students have started and only if agreed by the Director of Learning

THESE TWO YEARS ARE RELENTLESS•A Levels are a relentless examination of your child’s resilience and abilities - academically, mentally and emotionally

•They are tough, and do not stop for illness, relationship break-ups, bereavement etc.

•There is a huge jump from GCSE to A levels

•Your child needs your full support!

SOME BASIC RULES•School starts at 8.30 sharp every day•Students will be put in tutor groups•The Stage System lets students (and parents) know when something is wrong•Students must be properly equipped •Latecomers will NOT be admitted to lessons•Use non-contact hours wisely

WHAT ELSE HAPPENS IN YEAR 12?

•Mentors (about 60 students are getting this now)•Ambition to Reality (to improve presentation and interview skills)•Employability (we have set up >100 work experiences this year)•Community Action (also helps students with their Uni applications and CVs)•External partners (PwC, King’s College Hospital, IPC, SJ Berwin, National Theatre, orchestras and art galleries)

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO NOW?•Talk to your child about the subjects they want to take – how does this impact on future career/university choices?•Research university courses (Which? guide)•Students can reinvent themselves as a learner and as part of the school and wider community

All• Enrolment Day - 28 August, 9:30–1:00pm• Admin Day – 30 August in time slots by surname (times given out on Enrolment Day)• Term starts - Tuesday 3 September 8:30am
