A Note from the Chair . . . Sal MedinaIt is an honor and pleasure to serve as Chair of the Claremont Chamber Board of Directors for this upcoming year. Over the past month or so, I have been asked on multiple occasions; “Why have I chosen this path as a member of the chamber?” My response is simple. I feel truly blessed and fortunate to live and have a business in a city that has given me so much. Therefore, it is only natural for me to repay all the wonderful people that have given me so much by contributing to make the Claremont Chamber one that we can all be proud of. I hope that in the year to come, I can share my enthusiasm and tireless commitment to the role that I am honored and excited to take on.

After returning from our board retreat last month, I was reminded that as Chamber Board Members, our role as community leaders is to serve our community as well as our general membership. I feel it is our responsibility to continue to make the Claremont Chamber one the best Chambers that it can be and continue to make Claremont one of the best cities to live, work and do business in.

This year’s board has committed to continue to work tirelessly to create new and exciting programs that will add value to your membership and maintain a highly effective Chamber of Commerce. We hope to continue to highlight our members on the Chamber website, along with our “new” format of the Chamber breakfast, as well as to enhance educational programs throughout the year.

I have been a member of the Claremont Chamber since before our business even opened its doors over eight years ago, and I can honestly say that joining the Chamber has been one of the greatest decisions we have made as a business. I have made many wonderful connections, both local as well as regional and I have met top notch people who I have the pleasure to call my friends.

On behalf of the entire Board, our membership and chamber staff, I would like to thank Linda Sarancha for her dedication and service as Chair of the Chamber Board 2014-2015. For our retiring Board members who have rotated off, it has been a pleasure to work with you over the years and I can say that you will all be missed. Your contributions have been tremendous and I would like to offer my sincerest appreciation for all that you have contributed to the Chamber. And for the new members that will be joining us, I look forward to working with you in the year(s) to come.

This is going to be a great year and I look forward to working with each and every one of you to promote the business community and local economy.

Your success is our success.

Sincerely,

Sal Medina

The Claremont Chamber Young Professionals (CYP) hosted their third annual bowling fundraiser at Chaparral Lanes in San Dimas on June 10, 2015. With over 50 bowlers in attendance, this event was the biggest tournament yet. All of the participants along with their family and friends had a incredible time bowling for a great cause. This year’s proceeds benefited the First Street Gallery Art Center, a non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities develop creativity and make important contributions to the cultural and economic life of their communities.

We would like to thank all of our Chamber members who donated raffle prizes: The Diamond Center, Claremont Craft Ales, Starbucks, Community Senior Services, Claremont Courier, ISN Global Enterprises, Inc., First Street Gallery Art Center, Candlelight Pavilion Dinner Theater, DoubleTree by Hilton Claremont, Plume Ridge Bottle Shop and Nuno’s Bistro and Bar. Your generous gift’s was a great additon to help raise more funds for the event.

Due to the overwhelming participation and raffle ticket sales, we were able to donate $1,034 to the First Street Gallery Art Center! A check will be presented to the Director of First Street, Rebecca Hamm on Tuesday, July 14 at the Monthly Chamber Breakfast.

Congratulations to the winners of the tournament: Nicholas Neece, Joseph Porreca and Tim Manfro. They will also be presented a trophy at the breakfast.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported this great event. The CYP’s are looking forward to seeing you at next years tournament!

Securing Healthcare DataHealthcare institutions today are increasingly opting for mobile devices to increase their employees’ productivity and collaboration, and to deliver better patient care and customer service. Yet the benefits come with the potential risks of data breaches and threats. Without proper security measures in place, hackers could steal patients’ healthcare data and use it for personal gains. Protecting patients’ information is a must for your healthcare organization - here’s how you can secure healthcare data.

Encrypt data

Data encryption stops hackers in their tracks of stealing information. When you set up connected device systems with service providers, whether it’s cloud systems or data transfer channels, make sure that data traffic of the device and its software application is encrypted when communicating your institution’s private networks and those of your outsourcing providers’. Personal healthcare information can be compromised during the collection and transmission processes. Encrypt data to protect information from being stolen.

Protect passwords

When setting up a system, connected devices are automatically deployed with default usernames and passwords, most of which are all too familiar for attackers. After setup is complete and before critical information is collected and transmitted, you should change the password immediately. Also, the connected device network shouldn’t be configured in a way that exposes authentication credentials in your institution’s network.

Authorize devices

Privacy protection can be strengthened by securing device and authorizing permissions. The devices should be configured to prevent data from being accessed or removed by all others except the authorized device holders. Restrict devices from accessing data beyond its intended operation, and set up permissions so that the generated data can only be accessed by an authorized person with a need to handle the information.

Inspect personnel

One of the loopholes in healthcare data security lies in employees. Former employees - both of your healthcare institution, vendors and its subcontractors - can be the source of unauthorized disclosure. Check for potential data breaches regularly, detect and repair the damage before it spreads. Additionally, issue security policies and watch over your current

employees to ensure good personnel practice. This is especially important at the network administrator level, since that manager holds the key to your healthcare data.

As a healthcare business owner you should enter into agreements with your IT service provider to ensure the connected devices and network system is up-to-date and protected by multiple layers of security.

If you want to learn how to protect your healthcare institution from hackers, get in touch with ISN Global Enterprises Inc today at www.isnlobal.com or (909) 670-0600- their cybersecurity experts are on hand to help.

OPHELIA’S JUMP PRESENTS TWELFTH NIGHT & TITUS ANDRONICUS IN REPERTORY AT THE SONTAG GREEK THEATRE ANNUAL MIDSUMMER SHAKESPEARE FESTIVAL IN CLAREMONT

CO-SPONSORED BY POMONA COLLEGE

Claremont, CA (June 8, 2015) – Ophelia’s Jump Productions presents the Annual Midsummer Shakespeare Festival with TWELFTH NIGHT and TITUS ANDRONICUS. The productions, directed respectively by Co-Founder Caitlin Lopez with Jenny Lockwood and Founding Artistic Director, Beatrice Casagran, will run July 16-26, 2015 at The Sontag Greek Theatre at Pomona College in Claremont. The festival, co-sponsored by Pomona College, includes exhibits, arts, & crafts by community businesses and organizations. Tickets are available at opheliasjump.org, or by calling 909-541-5850.

Cross-dressing comedy intrigue meets a tale of untempered revenge when these Shakespearian plays are presented at Pomona College’s beautiful Sontag Greek Theatre, an outdoor amphitheater originally built in 1910 and renovated in 1997. The productions will be performed in repertory, alternating each night.

Now a Claremont tradition, Ophelia’s Jump’s Midsummer Shakespeare Festival artfully presents tragedy and comedy under the stars in a beautiful outdoor setting. Each performance opens nightly with a 30 minute Green Show. We invite you to bring your own picnic and don’t forget a small blanket or cushion for added comfort.
