Introduction

Health tourism has been one of the strongest trends in tourist travels in the last decade. The awareness of individuals of caring for their personal

health, changes in the way of life and work of the modern man, more free time and the growth of income of citizens have all contributed to this

fact. Health tourism is a specific type of providing health services in tourism, which covers diagnostic and treatment procedures, medical

rehabilitation procedures, natural remedies and the implementation of prevention and health programmes with multidisciplinary teams, all for

the purpose of treatment, preservation and improvement of health, and improving the quality of life.

In the Republic of Croatia, medical tourism services are provided primarily by spa and health resorts and special hospitals. The total number of

beds registered in the above facilities is 6,618. They employ 4,500 employees. Special hospitals and spa and health resorts have approximately

2,100 beds contracted with the Croatian Health Insurance Fund.

Through its current activities, the Institute for Health Tourism Services has identified development projects of health facilities - special hospitals

and spa and health resorts - in the total amount of EUR 400 million.

REPLACEMENT OF THE EXTERNAL WINDOWS AND DOORS ON THE GROUND FLOOR, FIRST FLOOR AND SECOND FLOOR OF THE SPA FACILITY

REHABILITATION

AND ADAPTATION

Due to inadequate external windows and doors of the

spa facility, the cost of heating the facility in winter and

of cooling it in summer increases. By replacing the

windows and doors in the administrative and doctor's

offices on the ground floor and in the rooms with

balconies on the upper floors, the amount of required

thermal water for heating would decrease, which would

considerably reduce the need for air conditioning. Thus,

the energy potential could be preserved.

2,500,000.00 325,000.00

2 REPLACEMENT OF THE ROOF ON DIANA FACILITY

ADAPTATION

Due to poor structure and roof covering there are leaks

on the roof which cause damage to the attic rooms. Due

to the lack of insulation on the attic floor, the rooms are

colder than the others and require more energy to warm

up and also to cool during summer.

By repairing the roof and the attic floor, the rooms would

be better insulated, which would significantly reduce the

costs of heating and cooling. Thus the energy potential

could be preserved.

ADAPTATION OF MAKSIMILIJAN FACILITY - II COURTYARD - AND CONSTRUCTION OF OUTDOOR POOLS

CONSTRUCTION

OF SWIMMING

POOLS AND HOTEL

Upon the completion of the court proceedings that should return the outdoor swimming pools in the possession of the hospital, they have to be built in accordance with modern technical solutions (e.g. roofed pools with the possibility to be uncovered in summer to allow people to use it 365 days), along with the designing of the accompanying facilities. The other part of the courtyard facility Maksimilian (built around 1930) hasn't been used for several years, and by adapting it in accordance with the requirements of the curators, it would be turned into a modern hotel facility with a restaurant opened toward the bathing area. The purpose of the project is to raise the competitiveness

of the hospital with the aim to ensure new

accommodation units and a modern restaurant. With this

project, the hospital gets the resources that can help rank

it amongst the leading hospitals for health, medical and

wellness tourism with facilities which are equipped at the

level of a four star hotel

REHABIITATION

OF ANTONINA

FACILITY

REHABILITATION

The Antonina facility is a protected cultural facility, which now houses a laundry and one part of the archives. The facility is completely dilapidated and it needs to be repaired from the foundations to the roof. Initially, there were floor bathtubs that could be partially opened and shown as part of the cultural heritage. The laundry area would be technologically aligned. The floor of the facility, which now serves as a secondary archive, would also be adjusted to the applicable building standards. It is necessary to protect the facility from decay while creating better working conditions. With this project, the hospital protects a cultural monument and prevents the facility to crumble down on

CONSTRUCTION

OF THE HOSPITAL

RESTAURANT

CONSTRUCTION

The existing restaurant is in poor condition, both in terms of its architecture and in terms of energy consumption. The facility dates from the 1960s and should be torn down and in its place a new facility should be built in accordance with the demand of feeding over 200 patients per day. Since it won't be long until hospitals will be allowed to deal with health, medical and wellness tourism, a modern restaurant is more than required. The purpose is to build a modern restaurant where meals for 300 patients can be provided in order to raise the competitiveness of the hospital and to allow better preparation and distribution of food. The construction of the new restaurant completes the offer of the hospital based on which it can be considered one of the leading hospitals for medical rehabilitation and health, medical and wellness tourism

REHABILITATION

AND ADAPTATION

Due to inadequate external windows and doors of the facility Maksimilijan - I part of the courtyard block, the cost of heating the facility in winter and cooling it in summer increases. By replacing the windows and doors in the doctor's offices and the rooms on the upper floors the amount of required thermal water for heating would decrease, which would considerably reduce the need for air conditioning. Thus, the energy potential could be preserved.

CONSTRUCTION

Thermal water that comes out of the heating system and the pool has a temperature of over thirty degrees, and is currently discharged into a stream via the sewerage. At some hundred meters from the discharge point, the hospital has a land on which it could build plastic or glass greenhouses for the production of vegetables and fruits for the needs of the hospital, as well as for all other health institutions Krapina-Zagorje County. The greenhouses would be heated by means of the discharged water - according to some analyses, we are talking about the equivalent of about 800 litres of fuel oil per day. The production can be organised according to ecological principles, with the involvement of the agricultural schools Bedekovčina and the Faculty of Agriculture in Zagreb as strategic partners The production of fruits and/or vegetables for the needs

of the hospital and other health institutions based on the

use of hot waste water to heat the greenhouses, thus

achieving energy efficiency and protecting renewable

1 For all of the mentioned projects, there is no project documentation, these are all ideas for the period between 2015-2020. We have the necessary documentation for the

project under number 2 - the documentation shall be submitted to the FZOEU (Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund). For the project under number 3, the

judgement of the court is awaited and it is likely that the hospital will get it back into its possession and only then can the development of the project be initiated. Other

projects are based on ideas and depend on finding funding for their implementation. For some (1 and 4) mostly BOQs are needed.

The entire complex is under the protection of the Ministry of Culture.
