GUGLIELMI CASTLE ON THE ISOLA MAGGIORE AT THE TRASIMENO LAKE

The castle is located on the Isola Maggiore of the Trasimeno Lake, within the municipality of Tuoro sul Trasimeno. The property is protected by a fence on one side, and surrounded by the lake on the other three sides. The estate is composed of the Castle, surrounded by 6 crenellated towers and featuring a drawbridge, of a Church with a crenellated tower, of an old windmill and other buildings, for a total area of 9,900 square meters. The land is entirely used as a park (4.5 hectares).

The Castle was built as a convent in 1328 by the town-council which also built the Church of St. Francis. Between 1885 and 1891, the Marquis Guglielmi renovated and expanded the building to three times its original size. The architectural structure shows high fronts with 6 perimeter square-base towers. All the parapets of the castle, church, towers and bell tower are crenellated. The castle beautiful large halls were once decorated by collections of antiques, china, weapons, and armours. The castle stands on the Isola Maggiore of the Trasimeno Lake and is easily accessible through two piers and, by land, through the town streets. The island is only few minutes away from the port of Tuoro, well connected to the main road and motorway network and airport: Perugia is only about 40 km away on the S 75, the A1 Florence-Rome motorway is about 30 km away, the regional airport of S.Egidio is about 60 km away, Perugia train station is about 30 minutes drive. The castle is also close to other important towns such as Perugia (40 km), Orvieto, Arezzo,
