100+ Patrol Hours

What our mem-bers got up to in winter… Lifesaving Victoria part-nered with Westpac gave the opportunity for Nippers from all over Victoria to participate in the pre-game parade for Collingwood vs Adelaide and then watch the game. A group of Cape Nippers proudly represented the club in their Nipper hoodies and from all accounts had a fantas-tic time.

During the winter months Cape Paterson had a new Thundercat IRB delivered to the club. The IRB has been named in honour of our first president Wally Purvis who sadly passed away earlier this year. Family and friends of Wally attend-ed an official launch of the boat at firsts surf. Wally Purvis as well as Ron Gilmore and Les Legg are the reason we have a club at the surf beach and I am sure each time the patrolling members take Wally the IRB for a spin they will be thankful for what he started. Wally was a great man and will be missed by all who knew him.

What our members got up to in

winter…

In the September school holidays a group of 40 life-savers from all over the state attended the Advanced Lifesaving Camp (ALC) held at Airey’s Inlet. One of our own, Nik Foon represented Cape in a grueling week long camp where participants can obtain their Gold Medallion and hope to be employed as one of Victoria’s paid Lifeguards. The camp is a ‘week long interview’ filled with mental and physical challenges including a Pier to Pub and rescue relays. Foony was up for the chal-lenge and has successfully passed all components in the Gold Medallion apart from the swim test which he will complete soon and hopefully he will be helping to keep our beaches safe over summer with a paid guard position.

The ALC is one of most prestigious lifesaving camps run in Victoria and I encourage anyone up for the challenge to apply next year. I had the privilege of being a mentor again this year and the quality of the candidates was exception-al. The main focus of the camp is about positive atti-tudes and great work ethic which was on display from the disciplined candidates.

- Chelsea Bowman

Congratulations Foony!

Working bee We need your help! There is lots to be done this pre season

before it all kicks off again for summer. Our clubhouse and

facilities are hugely important to the running of the club and

patrols - they require upkeep and the more members we get

at these working bees the more the load gets spread.
