Mini-SPY Update A Wonderfully Successful Weekend June 12-14 18 folks from Calvary travelled to Chriansburg, VA on a Friday afternoon to spend the weekend in community with the folks from Fieldstone UMC doing mission and worshipping together! Children as young as those entering kindergarten were part of the weekend plans where we painted decks for a young girl with cerebral palsy, made music walls for a student who is paralyzed and blind, weeded, and spread mulch. The children enjoyed a big camp out in the large worship space, and the experience with so many young adults from Fieldstone. They worked with tools, spray paint, and their hands. On Saturday night, the group enjoyed a cookout in a nearby community of section 8 housing. Our folks played games, threw footballs and water balloons, and ate delicious hot dogs and burgers. On Sunday, we all worshipped together and enjoyed communion, served by some of our youngest folks. Pictures are on the Calvary UMC facebook page and in our Harris Hall! Congratulations Graduates! Please email me if you are interested in finding a specific way can get more involved with this ministry. (TRUST ME, I WANT YOUR HELP!) One big area of need is video editing. Radical Hospitality Needs You! Do You Like to Help People Have Wonderful Fellowship? Each Sunday, following the 11am worship service there is a wonderful coffee hour where people gather to discuss the worship service, ponder the sermon, watch children play, have a snack (or two) and generally have a great time before heading out to other activities for Sunday afternoon. There is a small but dedicated group of people who (on a rotating schedule) set up each week. Each “couple” works about once per quarter. Because several of the regulars have had to step down we are looking for others to join the crew. If you would like to help with this vital ministry, please contact Margaret Taylor at 703-683-5695. Training (if needed) is provided!

Prayer Corner Seven Reasons to Pray (Part 6) We use prayer as a prerequisite to spiritual awakening. … Humility, repentance, and persistence in prayer. These are what we need today to lay the foundations through which God can manifest His Person in powerful ways. As we pray, we experience change which revives us. Then we become the seeds of revival to change those around us. As the concentric circle enlarges, awakening spreads more broadly and quickly. And all of this is the fruit of prayer. What a wonderful reason to pray — to see the resultant awakened church, campus, city, or country.

This is from a writing by Dan Hayes at http://crupressgreen.com/seven-reasons-to-pray/
