BOOKS RECEIVED: GOLDEN PALETTE (The Artistic Voyage of Dr. B.A. Reddy)
Written by Smt N.V.P.S. Lakshmi, ‘Golden Pallette’ is a monograph on the ‘Artistic Voyage of Dr. B.A. Reddy, who is known as ‘Bala Bandhu’, for he has been involved in giving training to the village children and let them participate and win many prizes and laurels at international level. In this monograph, the writer has commented right from the early paintings to the recent ones in a commanding but in a gentle
language with a tender voice. The entire journ of Dr. B.A. Reddy is divided into four chapters sub-divided again, which are ‘Rain Drop that Make talk to the Earth’, ‘Artist-Creator’, ‘Appi, Who Cropped Gold in the Tender Hearts’ and ‘Lullubied Life Swing’. Third chapter is the important one depicting the contribution of Dr Reddy to the field of Art and its Propagation.

Being a teacher in art, Dr. Reddy thinks his profession as God and is serving through ‘Samskruthi’, ‘Young Envoys International’, ‘Bapu Darshan’ and ‘Art Drive’. He has taken the Children’s Art Training as a mission, raising a healthy competition among them. Gradually, the arena of his desireless work has been extended from his Kendriya Vidyalaya to the other vidyalayas located through out the country. He established ‘Young Envoys International’ in 1983 in his sweet home ‘Srujana’, which has conducted 24 National, 4 international understanding, 2 flooral decorative and 2 graphic competitions, all for children, inculcating the spirit of Nationalism, patriotism, cultural awareness involving especially the Indianism. “Samskruthi”, a Rural Art Centre was established in a remote village of Haidarguda in Rangareddy District after about a decade in 1994 to acquaint the Rural Childhood with colours. About 150 children from ten villages in the vicinity come
every Sunday and on other holidays to this Centre to undergo training in painting, graphic art, doll making, screen printing, clay modelling and tie and dye. ‘Art Drive’ is the printed magazine publishing the childhood art and thereby encouraging it through generations. A special book is also brought, ‘Graphics by Rural Children’. ‘Bapu Darshan’ is a prestigious competition conducted at National Level to well aware the children of non-violence and satyagraha and named the project, ‘Concept of Peace Through Tender Hands’. All these art pieces are consolidated into two anthologies as ‘Thoughts of Peace through Young Hands’. 84 exhibitios are held so far in Bapu Darshan.
The name of the home of Sri B. A. Reddy is ‘Srujana’ (creation). As the name indicate, majority of the family members are artists. His father showed the sweetness of art for the first time to him. During the period of learning his mother helped him a lot in supplying the needed
material while he was going to Gudiwada. Smt. Sarojini, his better half, extended her full cooperation in not hindering his learning. She gave birth to a pair of babies named as Padma and Sudha. Both of them have shared his work of propogating children’s art, as they themselves learners at first and as tutors later. Padma got ‘Soviet Land Nehru Award’ at a tender school-going age. She had taken her B.F.A., Degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University and a P.G Degree from Baroda University. Moreover, she is a renowned art-critic too. Her husband Sri Rajeswara Rao is also a famous artist having the heirarchy of ‘chithra kala bhooshana’ Sri Antyakula Paidiraju.

Published a number of drawings and paintings in leading journals and magazines, got the ‘Soviet Land Nehu Award’ along with Brij Maharaj and Ustad Bismillah Khan. Recognised as the ‘Best Teacher’ at National level. Received the title of ‘Bala Bandhu’ from Andhra
Pradesh Baalala Academy and the ‘Meritorios Award’ from the Telugu University. He was granted a ‘Senior Fellowship’ by the Cultural Department of Indian Government to research on the theme of ‘Folk Art in Andhra Pradesh’ which he has completed recently. Dedicated his every minute to the propogation of Art among the children, Dr. Bommareddi Appireddy has extended his maximum stab as an artist, the best teacher, editor and
journalist and above all as a common volunteer.

Right from 1985, Dr. B.A. Reddy did not partici- pate in the Art Competitions, with a view that only a lighted candle can only lit the other candles. He lighted up many pupil-candles and led them get Soviet Land Nehru Award for 16 times, 20 CCRT scholarships and many more International Prizes, like Grand Prix (USSR), Golden Pallete, Black Cat (Poland) etc.

TRANS- REATOR PAR-EX ELLENCE
Dr. L.K.SUDHAKAR Everything in this age of money relations is dominated by
‘ad-linked information technology’. ‘Trans-Creation’ is one of such
processes augmented merchandize. ‘Trans-creation’ is the term used mainly by the marketing professionals of ad-world,
involving a process of changing a message powerfully from one language to the other.
Maintaining the objective purpose, stylish approach, tonal character and contextual back-ground
of the message from the base language is supposed to be expressive as powerful and as verbal as
possible into the target language. With this purpose, mainly a process is evolved, which came to
be called as ‘TRANS-CREATION’.
But everything will have its own merits and demerits. Trans-creation is also emerged as an
effective translational process in the realm of literatures. Different languages have different
customs and traditions which make its culture unique. This culture is effectively brought forth in
the translations of Dr. Sudhakar, of course, all of which have a common entity, Indianism.

two languages and cultures they

Popularly known as ‘LK’, Dr. Lanka Kanaka Sudhakar is prominently
known for his tender language and idiomatic expression, both in Poetry
and StoryTelling . He has one anthology for each genre to his credit.
He is called after his poetry anthology as ‘Kobbaraaku (coconut leaf)Sudhakar’, which
shows the popularity of his poetry. Anthology of Short-stories ‘Gobbi Poolu’ coronate
‘Telugu Culture’ in every story, sentence, word and letter.
Now he is emerging out as a successful ‘trans-creator’ by the work of ‘Crocus Pollen’,
tagged as ‘Indian Poetry’, renderings of poems from the major Indian languages. This
essay holds a torch to peep into his trans-creation.

Etymological explanation for the
term ‘trans-creation’ has its root in
catering to the need of making the
video games more enjoyable
irrespective of cultural boundaries,
by avoiding mere translation of
words both written and spoken in
the related ads; the manufacturers
have tailored images to modify
story lines to suit the respective
culture. It is about in 1980’s, this
happened. Afterwards, the process
is carried out into the creative
writing as well. From 1990’s, the
term was used to distinguish the
translation from mere verbal and
linguistic rendering.
Some other term-equivalents to
‘trans-creation’ came into vogue
afterwards such as, ‘creative trans-
lation’, ‘cross-market copying’,
‘internationalization’, ‘and cultural
adaptation’ etc for the process of
taking the essence of a message or
art work and re-creating it in
another language or dialect of the
same language.
What I wish to tell is that Dr.
Sudhakar’s trans-creation abounds
in this quality. He is an excellent
trans-creator … par-excellent!
Whatever may be the Indian
language from which he translates,
the base language is always
English. The poems of various
Indian languages translated first
into English and published in the
prestigious Kendra Sahitya
Academy’s journal ‘Indian
Literature’ are chosen for his trans-
creation. In his endeavor, he turns
not only mere theme and the
central idea but the very life-trans
as well into the target language that
is Telugu. If you are not said that
the poem is a translated one, you
cannot know it forever. You feel as
if it is written originally in Telugu.

to say, ‘Kumkum Rajanu’ (Crocus
Pollen) is a galaxy of Indian poets
and a panorama of their poetry.
Whatever may be the base
language, Dr. L.K’s creation
modifies it into a unique style,
Whatever poem you take, you see a
unique style, his own and a typical
expression, his own. The
uniqueness is that of indiational
and the typicality is that of lucid,
clear and transparent. Dr. L.K’s
expression abounds in his own
poetic terminology – dark
curtains; stack of clouds, that is too
of dark hued, infinite blue drops,
moon behind the clouds, bud of
rose in fog, musical orchestra of
rain drops, pasted bit of moon,
cubit long rain-bow, handful of
moon light…etc. If we peep into
his own poetry anthology,
‘Kobbaraaku’, we discover, re-
discover and always perceive him
as a maestro of feel and sense,
sensuously sensitive and a
dexterous weaver of reality and
poetic dream. ‘The Moon of Ten
Days’ is depicted in the poem,
‘Lullaby of Moon-light’
“…he is a thief of rank
on seeing me
jumps the wall, comes
and
snaps on the cheek of money plant
enters gracefully into my room
and
starts gossiping with me…”
The ever roaming Nature in its
fullest is brought before our eyes in
mere words and letters in his
poetry. Imagination flutters with
wide-spread wings.
“as the eye-lid of the darling
damsel
coconut leaf on our terrace…”
“the moon-flower
disseminating pollen of twilight…”
These types of imagination and
verbal depiction of a nature-scape
are the essential core of his poetry

and this parameter chooses the
poems for his trans-creation. More
or less, the poems in his trans-
created work go along these lines
of his versification.
In his fore-word, ‘about the
translation’, Siva Reddy says that
the way of his usage of Telugu is
so powerful because of his coinage
of own and eerie poetic
terminology…his language is
special and his expression is
special…when Ashok Bajpai is
rendered into Telugu, he takes re-
birth as a poet in Sudhakar’s own
poetic terminology.
Professor Sikhamani, a famous
poet in his fore-word, ‘Translation
of Bosom’, compares a pair of
renderings of Dr.L.K with those of
English translations; ‘A Black
Woman’ by Nirupama Dutt (Hindi)
and Jayant Parmar’s ‘The Mother’
(Urdu). He says that, “…on
reading a poem, Sudhakar unites
with it and reaches a state of full
unison with experience therein and
then starts his work of rendering
…the poem abandons its own
linguistic body and wears that
belongs to the language of Telugu
and appears before us as a
translation; this happens only when
the translator attain self-
identification with the original
poem…when he feel an intimate
union and the complete absorption
into the essence of the base
poem…”
These words of both fore-words
give us a conclusion of Dr.L.K’s
endeavor of translating an alien
tongue into his own is rather
creative and artistic with a beat of
life and verve. While translating
Lakshmi Kannan’s Tamil poem, he
keeps its name as ‘Godavari in the
Glass’. The river Godavari is not at
all related to the Tamilians, so that
the poet might have used some
other thing which is changed as
‘Godavari’, which is the flow of
dreams to Telugu people,
especially to the Telugu poets and
essentially to Dr L.K. He declared
boldly that ‘the river Godavari is
his younger sister-in-law’.

Instead of English title,
in telugu, some personal
tone is added with the
word ‘’ means ‘our’,
and thus totally
rendering the title as
‘our mother’. The first
line itself is very
beautifully rendered as
‘before the Sun is
awakening’. ‘Stove’ is
changed as ‘herath of
fire-wood’, which has
nativity of expression.
This way, the entire
poem is marked with the
linguistic idiom, cultural
symbolism of Telugu.

FFamily of LLetters
Sri Bhagavati Subbarao Nehru (24-9-1943 – 15-2-
2013), the ‘legendary figure of Draksharama’ is
the key resource person who made his entire family, ‘a family of
letters’.
Born to Sri Bhagavati Venkata Subbarao and Smt Venkata
Satyavati, he acquired the qualifications of dual graduation
(B.Sc., B.Ed) and pursued up to Post-graduation (M.A.
Eng). He had been an eminent teacher and academician for
more than three decades. Besides, he led his entire life with
a literary fervor making the majority of his family members
as poets and writers, dedicated to the cause of Telugu
Literature. Thus he had set an example of Cultural Symbol.
Having five daughters and a prodigious son and extended
with ‘worthies- in-law’ his ‘family-tree’ bloomed many a
‘flowers with literary fragrance’ and this article vindicates
brief accounts of the important flowers among them. First to
mention is his only son Gopi, who got the real patronymic
by holding Literary Meets and patronizing poets.
‘Aruna Sri’ Boddupalli Rama Krishna:
A retired Telugu Pandit, used to write from
the very inception of entering into job in
‘Jillellamoodi Matrusri Vidyalaya’. Famous for
writhing of classical poems of prosody.
His writings are ‘Sri Venkateswara
Stavam’, ‘Sri Kedaranatha Stavam’,
‘Loka Pavani’ sathakam and ‘veera kum
kum’ a play. ‘Aruna Sri’ is his pen-
name. He released an anthology of
different poems with the same name.
Smt Varanasi Surya Kumari:
Sri B.S’s sister, she is a poet and writer of recognition.
Her Poetry anthologies: Rama Katha Sudha,
Kavitaramam,Sunrutha Manjari, Adarsha Ramam,
Govinda satakam, Surya Kiranalu, Inthi Haasam, Venu
Nadam and Telugu Bhasha Samskruthi (Telugu
Language and Culture). ‘Maninee Manasam’ is the story
anthology and ‘Sapta Padi’, a novel, which glorifies the
Hiudu customs of wedding.

Dr. Varanasi Subrahmanya Sastry:
Retired Professor of Mathematics in Sri Venkateswara
University, Tirupati, he is a staunch devotee of
Bhagawan Sri Satya Sai Baba. “Pada Dhooli’ is his
devotional anthology of poems in praise of
Sai Baba.
The first one, ‘Particles of sand’ is an auto-
biographical poem where as the second one
is the translation for Misra’s work.
He has many more works to his credit
which abounds in devotional feelings.
Smt. Bhagawathi Anjanee Devi:
Wife of Sri B.S, Smt Anjanee Devi is an
ideal better half and the guiding spirit for the
endless writing of Sri B.S until his last breath.
Used to fair-copy and preserve the writings of his
husband, she was made a prop for the propagation of
his poems, lyrics, stories and everything.
She also participated in “Padyala Thoranam’ of DD8.
She has edited B.S’s second poetry anthology posthu-
mously released, ‘Smruthi Kadambam’.

K. Siva Reddy is a major voice in contemporary Telugu poetry. He has published about twenty collections of poems: his first was published in 1973 and his most recent book in 2009. He has won several honors, including the Sahitya Akademi award in 1990 for his sixth book, ‘Mohana! Oh Mohana!’, which has been described as “an outstanding contribution to Indian literature in Telugu”, in which “the impassioned flow of poetry . . . is never subservient to the zeal for change”. He taught English for several years at the Vivek Vardhini College in Hyderabad, and retired as its principal.

Sans a woman, the man is a big void. Nothing he can do in
continuing the race.
You may ask, ‘doesn't this fact holds good as well to
the man?' Yes, but partially. The man's role is equally
necessitated for Creation.
But…
The Hindu Philosophy depicts the same in a beautiful
manner. It names the man a ‘seed' and the woman, a ‘land'.
For a plant to germinate, between the two, ‘the land' is the
first and the foremost prerequisite. A ‘seed' cannot germinate
until it is sown in a ‘land'. In other words, the ‘land' has a
wonderful capacity to awaken the life embedded in a ‘seed'
and to make it expand like the ‘General Sherman Sequoia' or
to grow as tall as ‘The Hyperion'
The former is the world's biggest tree in terms of
volumetric expansion; the latter is the world's tallest tree.

Now coming to the woman, she is playing the role of
‘land' in continuing the human generations. That is why; the
woman is superior to man. This is the in-born fact, which no
one can deny.
Then, think a while, what is the privilege that is given
to the woman. She is always treated secondary in the human
world. In this issue, a diverse cerebration on the topic is
brought into consideration.
I would like to present here a poetic analysis for you
of the poem, ‘If Mothers….'
Motherhood!
Literally it means ‘motherliness', to say, it is a state of
being a mother. It is the lexicon meaning which seems to be a
bit narrower.
In a broader sense, ‘motherhood' is a pious character
that allows an individual, irrespective of gender, to be a
universal lover. It is an innate urge that keeps an individual
letting love not only his/her own children but also the
children of others and even the miniature creatures, those
cannot cast their shadows even.
Particularly, it is a noblest character that is owned by
the women, because a woman only can be a mother. It is an
invaluable privilege that God had conferred on the women.
That is the reason why He had en‘trusted' them with the
responsibility of rearing children.
Here I wish to write a poem in praise of such
motherhood.
In the gloomy faces suspended by the ailments the light lit up the desire of life! to the refrains of songs of annoyance of the wounded added the stanzas of Omni-awaken foot-sounds the ‘Florence Nightingale' sang all the night! only the nurse can do the service as the mother! are all the nurses not ‘Mother Theresas’?
who can do other than mothers? so patiently…so skillfully… so smoothly…so beautifully… femininity is the embodiment of service! fertility is the essence of servitude!! let's leave the professions of service and liturgy to the mothers! a teacher… a doctor… a lawyer… when they are mothers- they can teach the world well in their lulling laps and can inculcate Humanity!
Humanity can be reared up by women and men who
have such a built-in motherhood.
The humankind has miles and miles to go to reach

TELUGU LANGUAGE AND CULTURE: AN APPRAISAL OF PRESENT SITUATION OF TELUGU AS MOTHER-TONGUE
In the fourth World Conferences held in 2012, the year 2013 is dedicated for the ‘Development of Telugu Language
and Culture’. Commemorating this event, Smt Varanasi Surya Kumari compiled a book of classical poems in praise of
the literature, script, history and the poets of Telugu Language. These poems reminds about the Telugu Festivals
and Cultural Heritage to the present generations who are losing contact with their mother tongue with a false
prestige of pursuing education with English as the medium of instruction. The poet herself feels the same that her
grand-children derelict their mother tongue at the cost of English learning. She even declares that study of Telugu
must be compulsory. She dedicated her book to the ‘Mother of Telugu Language’. Thus she tried her best to meet
the historical necessity of the day.
“The elders in the house /should teach Telugu to their children .
Like the unweaned babies /should learn Telugu inevitably…
it’s not a mistake of parents to tell / leaning foreign tongue may give livelihood
But the culture lies/ in the customary dressing…
”The Honorary President of ‘World Telugu Conferences’, Sri Mandali Buddha Prasad opines that
these sort of books give a good impetus to the ideology of designing Telugu as a world language.
1. EVERY MORNING
how can it be known
who came
without opening the door
same are timidity
shadow darkness and illusion
comfort dream light
and imagination also
waiting of thousands
of moments…
so much of bliss
in the secret invasions of night
which lamp does it belong to -
the visible light!
awakening by sweeping the
darkness with light –
it’s the morning!
every morning!!
2. ALIEN in the same room
my friends before me
talk in their tongue
I feel solitary
alien, we are to one another!
3. GREEN THOUGHTS grass underneath the feet
as if murmuring in ears
the flowers might be wept
all the night long in darkness
as their beauty and fragrance
not considered…
by dawn, wet-crumpled
and droop their heads
beautiful flowers
together with air,
how graceful they are!
if not seen,
feel low-spirited
if seen, frighten
which throat be severed off
4. CHANGE is she that baby
yesterday or before
whom I caressed and lulled
as if seeing the eve
with the just rised eyes!
5. SOLITARY CROWD
while the Sun-rise
drives towards the crowd
the sun-set towards solitude
solitude is the overpass
that embrace the sky
the form that will not be seen
in the mirror
the crowd is the river
that is not threatened
the mirror
that is seen or unseen.
in the well trodden path
eyes, even to the legs!
6. LIGHT SPROUTS
as if the stars in the sky
the letters, scattered by the girl
as if the floral plants
in the back-yard
the words
that are compiled by the girl
as if the crops in the fields
girl’s paragraphs of sentences
light sprouts
shadows
reflections
The Poet Mukunda Ramarao has a mirror, the mirror of Poetry! He peeps himself into it;
catches the reflections and make them visible to his reader. The reader will also see the
reflections of his own, uploaded as per his experiences, feelings and emotions.
Perpetuated with ‘green and fresh’ feelings of nascent thoughts, Ramarao’s poetry
instantly fills the hearts with bliss and pleasure of endurance.

A small booklet of 26 pages, dedicated ‘to all the Buddhists propagating Buddhism according to the

of dharma. – these are the sub-heads in this book, by which we can estimate the worthiness of reading it. The
‘Ashtanga’ way of life, taught by Buddha is discussed before concluding.
There is no other faith than Buddhism to bring the natural change in a man. It is a great instrument for mental
develop ment. The man attains personality by reaching youth. So the seeds for moral behavior should be sown in the
childhood and studentship times. For present times, an amalgamated path of Buddhism and Ambedkarism must be
followed. Man’s way of life should be Buddhism. Every person must be an Ambedkar. Then and only then, the
Buddhism will be sustained and sustains the human life ideal.

beautiful goddess Venus
simplest and innocent Magdalene!

now -
when she has got guts to ask to see her as a human being…
when she has urged for some freedom-

Book Release Function: B.S.M. Kumar’s post-modern
poetry anthology, ‘Tea Table That God Had Died On’
(The review was given in the issue 1.2, February 2014)
Mr.Kumar and the God used to held common tea-table
talks in which the God show dissatisfaction towards his
creation of the worls full of ineqalities. Famous poet and
critic Dr. Addepalli Ram Mohan Rao presided over the
function and released the book. The book is reviewed by
Dr. Kanchanapalli, Sri Makineed Surya Bhaskar and Sri
Kondreddi Venkateswara Reddy.

Posthumous Poetry Anthology of Sri B.S. Nehru, released
Sri Madhunapantula Satyanarayana Murty (Andhree
Kuteeram Pallipalem) released the book in a function held
in MPP Elementary School, Velampalem (E.G.Dt).
Makineedi gave the Key Note Address as the Chief-guest
of the function held by Sri Bhagawati Subbarao Gopi
(Atlanta), only son of the poet Sri Nehru.
A novel ‘Sapta Padi’ (Seven Steps) written by Smt Varanasi
Surya Kumari is dedicated to the sweet memory of her
Brother, Sri B.S. Smt Anjani Devi, Tatvarti Raghava Raju,
Boddupalli Rama Krishna, BBJ Tilak, Smt Joga Ananta
Lakshmi, President, Gram Panchayat, Velampalem with her
husband Veerabhadra Rao and others have participated.
Telugu merits status as India's
2nd official language
The State Official Language Commission has asked the state
government to bring pressure on the Centre for making
Telugu the second official language of the country.
According to the commission, Telugu is spoken by the most
number of people in the country after Hindi, the national
language. Hence the justification for the demand for making
Telugu the second official language of the country.
In view of the large number of Telugu-speaking people living
in Tamil Nadu, Odisha and Karnataka, Telugu should be made
the second official language of those states. Moreover,
pressure should be brought for introduction of Telugu as third
language of study in schools in northern states; the
commission said and wanted the central government to treat
the official languages of states on a par with the national
language.
