Business of the Month—Tidbits
Chamber Newsletter April 2016
Tidbits is owned by Mark Driver since No-
vember 2004. His wife, Tina, is a court re-porter for Walla Walla County Superior
Court for 30 years. She is currently the court reporter for Judge Wolfram, she also
helps with Tidbits and the Baskin-Robbins store. Mark and son, Adam, purchased the
Baskin-Robbins store on Isaacs Avenue in Walla Walla in 2006. Their oldest son, Ryan,
is the Vineyard Manager for Tertulia Cellars in Walla Walla.
A “tidbit” is defined as “a tasty morsel to be enjoyed before the meal.” And that’s what Tidbits is: a non-
controversial newspaper dedicated to publishing enter-taining morsels for the mind—food for thought as it
were—trivia, fun facts, puzzles, amusing stories and oddities. The unique editorial blend is what intrigues readers and keeps them coming back for more.
Tidbits of the Blue Mountain Region is distributed to over 220 locations every week through-
out Walla Walla & Columbia Counties in Washington and Milton-Freewater. Locations include eating establishments, coffee shops, hotels, waiting rooms, hair salons, laundromats, conven-
ience stores and many other businesses. Wherever people wait and are looking for something to read…it is our goal to have a Tidbits rack there with the latest edition. Tidbits has an aver-age of over 13,000 readers every week. Tidbits advertising is effective and affordable, overhead
is low because Mark operates out of the office in their home. Editorial costs are shared with over 150 other Tidbits publications throughout the United States and Canada, keeping those
costs low. The savings are passed onto advertisers. Tidbits has been in this area for almost 20 years. When Mark purchased the paper 11 years ago, it was printed on 4 pages of 8 ½” X 11”
paper. Now it is an 8-page tabloid publication and readership has almost doubled. Last year they started partnering with Outwest Printing in the production of Explore Milton-Freewater.
Their 4th issue will be coming at the end of April to promote the Milton-Freewater Cinco de Mayo celebration, Junior Show and the historic school bond election. Katie Smith delivers pa-
pers in the Walla Walla area and Howard Russell is the part-time Advertising Sales Consultant. Family members also help when needed.
Mark is active in several area organizations to include: the MF Chamber, MFDA, CDP, WW Chamber, the Chamber Ambassadors, Dayton Chamber, Knights of Columbus Michael Flohr
Council #766 and Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Walla Walla.
Mark moved his family to the area in 1982 from Iowa. Tina accepted a position as court report-
er with Judge Reser and the rest is history. The Walla Walla Valley has been a wonderful place to raise their family and they now enjoy watching their five grandchildren (ages 3 to 10) as they
grow up in this area. The Chamber is pleased to award the April Business of the Month award to Tidbits.

A Message from the Director
Spring is in the air! Even tho we had a relatively mild winter, most every one I know is
ready to see Spring arrive. A list of DIY projects takes front and center as there is always much to accomplish when you own a business or home. A little paint can spruce up the
outside of a building or freshen a rooms appearance quickly. Washing sidewalks, trimming shrubs and the lawn, along with a flower basket or two, can make a huge impact on cus-
tomers or guests. Clean windows and doors, appeal to the toughest of critics. Many of these services are a phone call away. Visit the Chamber website atwww.mfchamber.com
and click on the Member Directory located on the sidebar menu. Members are listed in a directory to include contact information and a link to their website if they have one. Save
yourself some time for the activities you truly enjoy by shopping for a painter, gardener/landscaper or window washer. If you truly love DIY projects, many local stores carry
most all of the supplies needed to make it look like a professional job. On a side note, watch our online calendar for a list of happening activities all year long.
Ministerial Association Active Year-Round
The Chamber proudly announces
the Ministerial Association has received the 1st Quarter Service
Award for 2016. This group of pastors actively assist in several
community programs and help those that have fallen on difficult
times with resources they may not otherwise receive. Visitors are
always welcome and each church extends an invitation to the public
to attend a service. If you are in-terested in supporting this organi-
zation, call Pastor Hackney at 541-938-3842.

Diversification on farms is one way to add value to operations. With commodity prices in
a slump, there is no better time to look at what else you can do locally. Kaiser will pre-sent a case study of a struggling dairy industry in his native South Africa that diversified
and created a $200 million dollar destination Agri-tourism internationally renowned tour-ist route. The parallels with the Walla Walla Valley will be highlighted. Dr Clive Kaiser is
the guest speaker at this noon program. Lunch is included in the cost of $20 for members and $40 for non-members. RSVP is necessary for lunch provided by Primrose on Main.

1:00 – 4:00 pm
Please join us on Saturday, April 2 when The Frazier Farmstead Museum will be hosting their annual Spring Open House from 1:00 – 4:00 pm. At this
time we will be introducing the new Frazier Farmstead Museum Director, Kristen Williams and honoring our current Director Diane Biggs for her ser-
vice to the Museum. For the past 31 years Diane has dedicated her time to studying and maintaining the museum history and also the history of the Mil-
ton-Freewater community. She also directed the preservation of the house and all of the buildings on the Farmstead property. She is the first and only
director of the museum and is responsible for the growth and success of this project. Diane has a great love for the Farmstead and it history. She will be missed but not forgotten as she will be a good support for the board and the
new director.

Meet The New Chamber Administrative Assistant
Jennifer Zerba came to Milton-Freewater with her husband, Jason; daughter, Isa-
bel and two Chow Chows, Leonardo and Bella early 2015 from Wyoming. With great enthusiasm she quickly got involved with a many different organiza-
tions including the Milton-Freewater Chamber of Commerce spearheading the Vital Visionaries program, Chamber Ambassadors, Milton-Freewater Down
Town Alliance Promotion Committee, Blue Mountain Toastmasters, Pendleton Toastmasters and Faculty Club Toastmasters. Her passion and determination to help Milton-Freewater grow and prosper is contagious. She is changing the con-
versation one person at a time! Jennifer is a licensed Cosmetologist for over 25 years and holds a Business Administration degree. Being a 13 year member of
Toastmasters International has given her the opportunity to speak, inspire and motivate a few to hundreds of people by helping them understand that they are

Car Shoppe Pro is a family affair! The dealership is owned and operated by Randy and
Janet Propeck with the occasional help of a few family members. They have been in busi-ness since 1978 and their motto is: honesty, fairness & high moral values. Their greatest
value is always placed on their customer and their goal is to provide the best buying expe-
rience possible.
The Propecks recently acquired Old Hickory Sheds in November of 2015 and are located on Highway 11 frontage at 1598 N Columbia. They very well may have what you want in a
used car or a handy backyard shed. For additional information, please call 541-938-5101.
School Bond Support Off to A Good Start!
The Chamber Board of Directors and staff proudly support the school bond promotion!
“Help Make a Difference” in our community! Schools are tied to each aspect of our community through education, which in turn, drives economic development. A known fact, every dollar spent of the total investment of $31 million will turn over seven times in our local commu-nity.
To support this effort, contact Randy Grant at the MFDA office, 541-969-4485 and join the Chamber Board and personnel in voting “Yes” for the school bond.

Gathering Place Event Wants You!
A gathering of supporters for the school bond, will be held on April 7th from 5:30—7:30. In other words, the public is
invited to join the Milton-Freewater Downtown Alliance, other organizations and speakers as they promote this im-portant (what will become known as) a historic event! There are a huge number of volunteers working on “getting the
facts” to each community member, on the importance of voting “YES” for the school bond. The passing of this bond will not only bring our education programs to the highest level, but will also spur the economic development programs
already taking root under the guidance of Mike Watkins and Art Hill. Milton-Freewater is moving in a positive direction and the excitement is catchy! Stop by and enjoy a little refreshment and if you have a question or two, MFDA Director
Randy Grant and a group of volunteers will be there to answer them. See you at the Gathering Place at Mac-Hi on April
7th!

BROADWAY FAMILY DENTAL
Does the Tooth Fairy come to your house? You may wonder if she is paying the same for teeth at your house as she does at other homes. In our area, she has been paying about $1 per tooth. Sometimes she pays up to $5 if it is the first tooth a child has lost! If a dentist has pulled the tooth, she often includes a bonus.
The Tooth Fairy can also be a big help to parents! A mom told us that the Tooth Fairy will not even stop at her house unless her son’s bedroom is clean. Smart mom!
