Fully Automated In-House Developed BAMS

Eduworld has developed an Online Management System BAMS (Batch Assessment Management System) where a

centralized database of batches is created to be worked upon by various activity masters to manage and monitor the

progress of assessment of batches more efficiently and with higher accuracy.

Some features of BAMS

A master list of Batches sector wise, job role wise, state wise and district wise.

A master list of all approved assessors available online.

Assigning of assessors to a particular batch much easier saving time and energy.

Monitoring of other activities like status of assessment, receipt of documents, result preparation, result uploading

etc.

Operational Procedure

We conduct assessments in various modes i.e. online using WAN, offline using Wi-Fi LAN and pen paper mode. In the blended mode, the question paper is prepared by random selection of questions from across the whole syllabus and evenly spread over various difficulty levels.

Online Assessment (Internet Based)

Theory Exam : The batch is uploaded against its job role.

The candidate selects his/her name and id to login.

After the instructions, theory exam starts where one question appears at a time on the screen.

Each question is compulsory.

After finishing the exam, feedback is also taken online.

The result is stored against each candidate along with a date and time stamp.

Viva : There is a separate login for the assessor.

After login by the assessor, the system clicks a photo of the assessor and stores it along with a geo tag, thus confirming the location of the assessor.

By logging on, the assessor selects the candidate from the batch, whose viva is to be taken.

The system randomly picks the viva questions which are asked by the assessor.

The viva questions are designed where one question leads to another.

The viva marks are not visible to the assessor since the marking is done internally by the system.

Practical : A practical task is given by the online system to the assessor and the assessor asks the candidate to perform.

The assessor enters the marks in the system by observing the quality and perfection of the candidate.

E-Assessment (Tablet Based)

Theory Exam : A laptop is made server and the candidate is given a tablet which is connected to the server via wi-fi LAN.

Assessment using Pen & Paper (Traditional Mode)

Theory Exam :

For every batch, four different sets of question papers are prepared with the same questions but randomizing the questions and even changing the order of the options for each of the sets.

Each candidate is given question paper cum answer sheets.

The candidate writes his/her name and attempts the questions with his/her signature on each page.

After finishing the exam, the sheets are collected and sealed in the packet.

The sealed packet is brought to the head office for marking and the result is prepared for the batch.

Viva :

There is a separate login for the assessor.

After login by the assessor, the system clicks a photo of the assessor and stores it along with a geo tag, thus confirming the location of the assessor.

By logging on, the assessor selects the candidate from the batch, whose viva is to be taken.

Glimpses of Assessment Process in Action

Methodology

Theory Exam (Online) :

Question Bank for each Job Role is loaded in the database. For each Job Role a test is defined taking into consideration the weightage of each NOS and PC for the

Job Role. The software picks questions randomly from the question bank as per the defined criteria and makes a

test for the batch. The questions from this set of questions appear in random order for each candidate. Even the options for a particular question appear in random order for different candidates, thus

changing the answer of the questions which is a strong and helpful tool in checking the mass copying. Each question is compulsory and the exam will be submitted at the end only.

Theory Exam (Pen Paper) :

Four sets of question papers are prepared as per the weightage assigned to each NOS and PC for the Job Role.

These four sets have different order of questions. Even the options for the questions are randomized to help prevent copying. The students mark the correct option against each question by signing each page of the test. The tests are collected after the students finish the exam.

Viva and / or Practical (Scenario 1) :

After the assessor logins to the viva screen, a photo of the assessor is taken by the system and is stored along with a geo tag thus confirming the physical presence of the assessor.

A practical task appears on screen for each candidate to perform and the related questions for viva also appear on screen which the assessor asks the candidate and the assessor ticks against each question thereby the score is generated by the system itself and is not visible to the assessor.

Viva and / or Practical (Scenario 2) :

After the assessor logins to the viva screen, a photo of the assessor is taken by the system and is stored along with a geo tag thus confirming the physical presence of the assessor.

A series of questions one leading to the other question for viva appears on screen which the assessor asks the candidate and the assessor ticks against each question and the score is generated by the system itself and is not visible to the assessor.

A practical task appears on screen for each candidate to perform which is observed by the assessor and the score is awarded and entered into the system manually by the assessor.

Proctoring, E-Surveillance and Quality Assurance

Video Monitoring : The assessment process is video recorded intermittently separately for theory exam, viva and practical.

Photographs of the Assessor at the time of reception, theory exam, viva and practical are taken. Photographs of the candidates during theory exam, viva and practical are also taken. Each assessor is issued an Identity Card bearing his/her photograph and Assessor Id. The identity cards of each and every candidate are inspected before taking the exam. Attendance record of the candidates for the training provided by TP is also inspected and recorded.

Technological Innovative Features

Two types of randomization of questions – (i) Question set appears to each candidate where questions are selected randomly from the larger question bank by the software system through SQL query. (ii) Same set of questions appear to all the candidates of a batch bur the order of questions is randomized for each candidate by the system software.

Randomization of the options of a particular question – Where the same question appears to more than candidates, the order of options of the question and thus the correct answer is randomized for each candidate by the system software.

Instant switching the question to other language like Hindi or any other regional language is available

to enable the candidate to understand the question in better sense. The options are also switched to the same language along with the question.

Pictorial and video clippings based questions wherever necessary.

New questions are added to the existing question bank at regular intervals of time making the

assessment more broad based and exhaustive in nature. Each question is tagged with QP, NOS, PC, Difficulty Level and Marks thereby facilitating the system to

make a test as per the defined weightage to each NOS and PC and further the result is delivered by the system software NOS wise and even PC wise.

At the time of submission of theory exam by the candidate, the result is stored against the candidate

id along with a date & time stamp. Separate login for an assessor to conduct online viva where a photograph is taken by the system

automatically and stored along with a geo-tag while logging in. Online viva feature reduces the level of prejudice and subjectivity by an assessor where the marking is

done by the system software internally which is not visible to the assessor. Online viva makes use of a question pool where one question leads to another making it feel more

inter personal. Viva questions also appear randomly for each candidate from the existing questions pool.

Auto video recording intermittent during online viva session.
