Brazil’s saturated airports face second crisis in 2020 Crumbling terminals and overloaded runways threaten 2014 World Cup

Brazil is facing a second major airport crisis by the end of this decade unless at least R$30bn ($14.6bn) is invested over the coming years to meet booming domestic and in-ternational demand.

The dire state of Brazil’s airport infrastructure was highlighted in a report re-leased last week by FGV, a São Paulo-based think tank - at a time when the country is scrambling to upgrade its crumbling, overcrowded airports and overloaded runways in the lead-up to the 2014 Fifa World Cup, which is expected to attract more than half a million football fans to 12 host cities across Bra-zil. Bombardier targeting longer main-tenance check intervals for CSeries aircraft prior to Entry-into-Service

Bombardier Aerospace reported at its Euro-pean Regional Review in Munich, Germany that prior to the airliner’s entry-into-service, it is targeting CSeries aircraft line maintenance checks (“A Checks) at intervals of 850 flight hours and base maintenance checks (“C” Checks) at intervals of 8,500 flight hours. Bombardier has been developing a Main-tenance Steering Group 3 (MSG-3)-based maintenance program since October 2010 for the CSeries aircraft. Throughout the de-sign evolution phase, the company has de-termined that line maintenance and base maintenance task intervals at, or in excess of, 850 and 8,500 flight hours respectively, can be achieved. The proposed maintenance plan will allow operators of CSeries aircraft to benefit from minimized downtime and more competitive maintenance costs, all while en-suring the inherent safety and reliability of

Fokker Services installs new passen-ger seats in Fokker 70 fleet from KLM Cityhopper

KLM Cityhopper (KLC) and Fokker Services signed a contract to replace the seats for the Fokker 70 fleet with new Acro seats. With the Acro seats, KLC will introduce the Economy Comfort-zone class on the Fokker 70 fleet, similar to the Boeing 737 fleet within Europe. The Economy Comfort zone is located in the front section of Economy Class and offers an increased comfort level compared to traditional Economy Class. The seats offer a weight saving of 83 kilo per air-craft, increased leg room and reduced main-tenance costs. The replacement of the seats on the total fleet of twenty six Fokker 70’s is desired because KLC will continue operating its Fokker 70 fleet until 2018 and the ‘slim seats’ will enable the introduction of econ-omy comfort zone. The seat renewal will be completed this year. This modification is in line with the enhancements and differen-tiation of the KLM product within Europe as well as the intercontinental product. Fokker Services partnered with Acro Ltd to develop a new seat concept for the regional aircraft market. The Acro seats fulfill the specific re-quirements needed to comply with the de-manding market. Short lead times, weight re-duction, increased leg room, and a significant reduction of maintenance costs.

Ameco Beijing marks 200th heavy maintenance for United Airlines

In April, Ameco Beijing redelivered the 200th heavy maintenance check for United Airlines. It represents a new milestone for the mutual cooperation. The cooperation began in 2005 with the selection of Ameco Beijing as MRO provid-er for United’s Boeing 777 fleet. It went through the first five-year contractual period when Ameco Beijing performed 53 Boeing 777 heavy maintenance checks for United. In March 2010, the over-haul services had been expanded to another five years with heavy maintenance and “International Premium Travel Experience” (IPTE) cabin modification program on United’s Boeing 777 fleet as well as heavy maintenance on Boe-ing 747 fleet. Since June 2012, Ameco Beijing has been entrusted with United’s Boeing 747 M check for line mainte-nance which has been more than 100 times by now.

The new Condor Business Class offers its pas-sengers the well-known excellent service and fully automated, comfortable angled-lie-flat seats capable of inclining to an angle of 170 degrees with a bed length of 1.80m provid-

ing ample space for relaxed travelling. Inte-grated USB and power connections will be available for personal electronic devices.

Additionally, fleet strategy is also being op-timized: Condor will be operating with two different cabin configurations meaning that three of its twelve aircraft will be able to of-fer 30 Business Class seats. These aircraft will then be deployed increasingly on routes with high Business Class demand such as those to the Maldives, the Seychelles, and Mauritius. The remaining nine aircraft will continue to
