Previously disadvantaged community with high levels of destructive leisure time activities such as gangsterism & drugs
Problem:

Vision of project:
To create an extensive, non-profitable leisure time activity program for all learners of the Bishop Lavis community by the community to lessen drug & gang related activities & to have a youth that is responsible & worthy
Team members: Volunteers from community
Facilitate SLEAK groups that creates sustainability when students are not present (e.g. holidays)
Help with planning of activities for SLEAK groups that are socio-economically and culturally acceptable
Act as positive role-models for SLEAK children from their own community
VOLUNTEERS
Team members: Gr.5-7 learners
Learn to use their leisure time constructively
Learn work abilities such as punctuality and respect through participation in SLEAK groups
Learn life skills such as working in a group and handling of conflict in an acceptable manner
Become part of a positive group (“gang”) where they are accepted and experience a sense of belonging
LEARNERS
Team members: Occupational Therapy students
Learn to work in partnership with role players in the community
Learn about a different culture and community
Learn about primary health care and indirect Occupational Therapy services
Learn about project management including monitoring and evaluation of a project
Learn about themselves
