Until next month, play fair and be nice!!!!!

THANKS!!!!!!!!

ON THE ROAD AGAINUpdate from my doctors:

April 4th, I was allowed to put 50 lbs of pressure on my leg, then every week after put another 50 lbs of pressure on it. As of today I should be able to put at last 150 lbs on my leg…

April 9th, I had a heart attack…yes, a heart attack... Ouch. After spending another week in the VA Hospital, I’m back to building up my leg again. I want to thank everyone that came to see me, sent cards or flowers, texted or emailed me. I know it’s the thoughts and prayers from everyone that are carrying me through this, so don’t quit now please.

April 20th , I’m walking with a walker and sometimes with a cane. Just a matter of time before I’m walking on my own two feet!

April 26th, Leg doctor said I can use a cane! Maybe in a month I COULD be back on a motorcycle! Besides being broken emotionally and physically, my

heart is also healing.

Motorcycles, oh yes, I’m starting to search for my new one. There are a lot of Harleys out there that got my attention, nothing yet that I just HAVE TO HAVE…

Again, I thank everyone for their wishes, cards and visits. On the road again? Getting closer every day. June 2012 should be an exciting month… Thanks, Dr. Jack

“JUST FORFUN!”

(YOUR PICTURES HERE)AMSAF is a non-profit service organization established in 2011. Our name says it all: we aim to reach out to the entire motorcycle riding community, as well as to every Arizona citizen, to promote and improve the well-being of motorcycle enthusiasts.

Our passion for motorcycles and the riding experience fuels our mission to make motorcycling safer and more enjoyable. Our Board is made up of folks who ride, have experienced a successful Business background and want to help make a difference.

Our vision is to foster a safe and friendly motorcycle riding environment for all Arizona motorcyclists to enjoy. Here’s how we’re planning to do it:

• Produce public service announcements, seminars and DVDs with the theme, “Watch out for motorcycles!”

• Produce educational materials emphasizing the importance of riding responsibly and the perils of impairment.

• Create multi-media marketing campaigns using TV, radio, billboards, newspapers, magazines and Internet to promote motorcycle safety and awareness.

• Promote Arizona legislation to enhance motorcycle safety and awareness.

• Promote rider-training assistance programs.

• Work with the Arizona Department of Transportation to minimize road conditions uniquely hazardous to motorcycles.

To reach our mission we are seeking your support. Your contribution will allow us to make use of every conceivable media format to inform and educate riders and the general public.

We need your help, in the form of a tax-deductible contribution, to achieve our goals. All proceed sponsorship funds go to the AMSAF mission of promoting motorcycle safety and awareness. All sponsors are recognized in our media and promotional campaigns. Check us out at www.amsaf.org or Amsaf on Facebook.

This is an exciting time for Arizona and all motorcycle riders as AMSAF starts to expand communication, safety tools and awareness out there to help the motorcycle rider.

COME WATCH US GROW!

By Alan Morris Raymond Fung has captured his fourth United States Snooker Association (USSA) Tour title of the 2011-12 season, sponsored by Aramith Billiard Balls, by winning Event 11 this past weekend at the Top 147 Snooker Club in Brooklyn, New York. Since his return to competitive snooker after a short spell in “retirement”, Fung has been the dominant player in this season’s USSA Tour events played in New York City which is excellent prepration for his quest to win next month’s United States National Snooker Championship at the Embassy Billiards Club in San Gabriel, California. The 2004 United States National Snooker Championship runner-up, who represented the United States in that year’s IBSF World Snooker Championships in the Netherlands, did not compete in last year’s Championship played in his home New York City borough of Brooklyn, so he is even more determined to win that elusive national snooker championship title by making the journey west to California. It must be said that Fung eased his way to the title out of the full-field of sixteen players that lined up at the Top 147 Snooker Club. He won all three of his Group B matches 2-0, and then on the second day’s play

he proceeded to a 3-0 quarterfinal victory over Kevin Wong and a 3-1 success over Raimond Cheung in the semifinals. Fung came up against what has to be said as a surprise final opponent in Nelson Chen. He had already faced and defeated Chen in his group matches, but Chen qualified in second place with 2-1 and 2-0 wins over Sam Mui and Hong Zhen Wu respectively. Chen went onto have a comfortable 3-0 quarterfinal success over the Group C winner, Tom Cen, and he would have been delighted to have overcome the semifinalist in last year’s United States National Snooker Championship, Henry Wong, in this semifinal by a 3-1 scoreline. However in this best-of-seven frames final, Fung proved too good for Chen as he reeled off four straight frames to deliver his seventh overall event win in USSA Tour history. The USSA would like to offer its thanks and appreciation to the Top 147 Snooker Club for their continued support for the USSA Tour, and to all the players who entered the event. The 2011-12 USSA Tour next moves onto Carom Café Billiards, in Flushing, New York, for Event 12 over the weekend of April 21 & 22. For the 2011-12 USSA Tour schedule and entry details, go to www.snookerusa.com.

A different kind of store. Located just south of where Thunderbird and Cactus meet on the east side of 11649 North Cave Creek rd. #8. It’s a must-see shop! It has something for everyone, from military items, camping, albums, audio equipment, vintage tools, all sorts of signs (tin, collectible, beer, plus) to sporting equipment, heck

even farm equipment.

The Man Cave is a one-of-a-kind store, with one-of-a-kind

prices. This store has something for everyone. You’ll find yourself getting lost in all the nostalgia, and wonder what happened to the time. Their prices are so low that other store owners buy from here, and re-sell goods in their own stores.

One last thing, ladies don’t let your husband/boyfriend go without you,

‘cause I’ll bet that you’ll be just as interested in taking something home with you as your man will be.

YOUR NAME AND/OR THE NAME OF YOUR BAND:

Tina Bailey... I also am in a band called The Bailey

Glass Band (as in Jim Glass)

INSTRUMENT YOU PLAY:

I play guitar but my main instrument is my voice.

BRIEFLY DESCRIBE YOUR BAND/MUSIC:

We play mostly rock/blues but have a few country tunes

also. Our original record ("Run Like The Devil") is due

out within a couple of weeks. It is sounding very

blues/rock, but there are some tunes that are definitely

country influenced.

HOW OLD WERE YOU WHEN YOU LEARNED TO

PLAY AND WHO INSPIRED YOU?

I have been singing since I could talk, basically. My

Mom was and is my biggest inspiration.... yeah, I know,

everyone says that, but it is true. But, besides her, I am

inspired by Bonnie Raitt, Adele, Susan Tedeschi, Grace

Potter, Sheryl Crow, Patty Griffin.... and anyone who

plays REAL music.

IF YOU COULD JAM WITH ANYONE ALIVE OR

DEAD WHO WOULD IT BE?

I would have to say The Tedeschi Trucks Band. (Susan

Tedeschi and Derek Trucks of Allman Bros.) I would just

keep my ears and my soul open and absorb.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE "CHEESY" SONG OF ALL

TIME?

"Sugar, Sugar" by the Archies. We plan to cover it in the

band. Everyone needs a little cheese now and then.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE VENUE TO PLAY AT IN AZ?

Right now I love playing at Pappadeaux. We play there

a few times a month out on the patio.

WHATS YOUR POISON/DRINK OF CHOICE?

Watermelon Vodka with Cranberry juice and a splash

...and some other entriesTamii’s “Catch” Winner

DO YOU HAVE A STORY ABOUT YOUR BEST

SHOW EVER?

I was fortunate enough to open for Paul Rogers of

Bad Co. at the OCC Festival at Tempe Town Lakes a

few years back. It was such a thrill to play for so many

people and have them rockin’ out to our band. The

best part of that day was getting to meet Howard

Leese of Heart. He’s a really cool guy. Needless to

say, we skipped all of our Heart tunes that day. Ha!

WHATS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT BEING

A MUSICIAN?

Not having to punch a time clock to make my living. I

wish everyone in this world had a job that was their

passion. I am very blessed, and it feels so great to

make people happy with music.

Big Richards has been opened up for more than three months now, however it is currently under new ownership/management. The main goal they have here is to make you happy! They want everyone to know that you’re all welcome here, and believe me they have somethin’ for everyone. Whether it be food or drink, you’ll find something! They’re located just south of Missouri on 27th ave. and are open Monday, and Tuesday (2pm-2am) and Wed- Sun (11am-2am).

There’s always something going on here. On Wednesday’s you can come show off your singing skills with Karaoke night, pool tournaments on Sundays at 7pm, Domino tournaments Fridays at 6pm, also Friday and Saturday nights you can enjoy music played by a live DJ, and make sure you lasso on up your favorite cowboy outfit

because it’s Cowboy Fridays, giddy-up! This place is off the hook with specials (food and drink). “You call it” well drinks on Wednesdays and Thursday for only 5 dollars. During Happy Hour (11am- 3pm, and 5pm – 10pm daily) you can enjoy $1.50 longnecks and $2.75 well drinks. Sundays enjoy longnecks all day for the $1.50 bargain. Now for my personal favorite; the food! The food here is g-r-e-a-t! With Kim and Dino cookin’ and Tamyal and Davisha servin’ the only thing missing is a bigger

belly. I could have sat there all night had my belly allowed me to. You’ll find yourself wanting to go back real soon and try the next choice on the menu. Believe me when I say every time you go you will have a new favorite dish. So let’s all get together and put a suggestion in to the owners and tell them to PLEASE make a sampler with a little of everything! Don’t forget that you can get 3 tacos for $1.00 on Tuesday. The ½ lb. wine burger (which happens to be the house favorite), grilled steaks, chicken, burgers, and the Phoenix (roast beef, jalapeños, and pepper jack cheese), wings that smell absolutely delicious, baked potatoes, sandwiches, the

chili, and you gotta get the fries! You see my problem now? Oh ya, they also have a kids’ menu. The article is done, and I resisted all temptation to make a play about the name Big Richard’s. But, don’t be a big Richard, and come on down, and let ‘em know what your favorite is.

By Chad HaireNow that winter is leaving us, it’s time to get some convertibles for cruising Tucson streets. First up was the Mercedes SLK. I still think the styling from last year’s car looked better and think Mercedes shouldn’t have changed it. But I must admit, the new shape looked very nice in bright red. Onlookers on the street seemed to think so too.

Under the hood is a 3.5 liter V-6 putting out 302 horsepower, and hooked to a 6-speed automatic gearbox. It’s quick enough, reaching 60 mph in 5.4 seconds. Gas mileage was impressive at 24-29 mpg. A smaller V-6 engine is offered for less money, and a big powerful V-8 for more money, but this is the best overall choice. The steering, handling, and braking performance were all sports-car capable, but the ride is a bit on the firm side. The roof is solid metal, but does fold into the trunk at the push of a button. This offers a choice of wind in your hair, or low wind noise with the roof up. One option I would pass on is the clear glass roof panel. It does have a dark tint, but still doesn’t block the Arizona sun from roasting you alive. And the dark tint prevents you from seeing out, defeating the whole point of a glass roof to begin with! For $500 extra, I say pass for us that live in the sun belt. Okay, if you live in Alaska!Another option I had was the Bi-xenon high

output headlights. Plenty of illumination on high beams setting, but on low, the beam was too low and cutoff too short for spirited driving. You might want to try the standard system first before buying. And doing so will set you back about $65,000. Style isn’t cheap. For those who want a similar performance for less money, the Nissan 370-Z convertible is a

good pick. It has a 3.7 liter V-6 at 332 horsepower, and hooked to a 7-speed automatic shifter. Acceleration is about the same as the Mercedes at just under 5.5 seconds. A 6-speed manual tranny is offered, but can’t beat the automatic for performance, and it’s easier to live with. With strong engines

like this, the need of manual transmission is pointless, a sign of the times. This is a true sports car. The steering has little feel, but is quick enough. Cornering ability is great, and the nice firm brake-pedal feel stops the car in a hurry. Drawbacks? Well, the ride is firm and choppy on rough pavement. Wind noise is high, even with the top up. Not a car for long highway trips. But with that small trunk space, and smaller gas tank that limits range, you aren’t going to take many long trips anyway, I think. If you take a trip to the bank, be prepared to withdraw $48,000 for a copy of this. But for those on a budget, the base hardtop coupe can be had for about $32,000.

Written by Tres KaneStinger’s Sports Bar & Grill, in Glen-dale, Arizona, hosted Stop #2 of the Arizona Women’s Billiard Tour on April 14th & 15th. Longtime AWBT favorite, Susan Williams was the winner, 7-3, over Terri Johnson-Mc-Cauley. Susan would claim her first title in over a year. For Terri, who traveled all the way from Farming-ton, New Mexico, it was her highest AWBT finish ever. With twelve (12) 7’ Diamond tables, Stinger’s was an excellent host for AWBT’s only bar table event for 2012. This tournament was sched-uled to get our gals ready to com-pete in the BCAPL Nationals in Las Vegas in May. We saw several new faces and welcomed back some old friends as twenty-six (26) ladies came out Saturday to play. With such a strong response, this will surely be a yearly event.Saturday’s play began with races to five in both the winner’s and loser’s brackets. Play was aggressive and games that used to slow matches to a crawl were won in a matter of minutes by strong tactics and ac-curate shooting. Many layouts were expertly sliced and diced for 8-ball runouts. This was not your Grand-mother’s 8-ball game. With all the excellent play on Saturday, only eight (8) would come back for Sun-day. On the A-side, it was Susan Williams, Terri Johnson-McCauley, Leandrea Gaff and Jodie Villegas. On the B-side it was Sara Miller, Veronica Poore, Justine Bishop and Beverly Cook.Susan would win the hot seat by defeating Jodie 5-1, and then over-come a, 1-3 deficit, and beat Terri. Veronica Poore took time out from her doctoral studies to win 5-4 over Bev Cook, only to lose to Jodie 5-3 and take home a nice 5th-6th finish. Sara Miller excused Justine Bishop 5-3 to finish celebrating Greek Eas-ter. Her next match was with arch enemy Leandrea Gaff who original-ly put Sara in the loser’s side. These two seem to play each other every tournament. This time Leo was the victor 5-3 leaving Sara in 5th-6th hoping for another chance to beat Leo in the next tournament. Jodie Villegas ended Leandrea’s run by beating her 5-3. Great job Leo! Then

it was Terri Johnson McCauley’s turn to stop Jodie 5-3. A nice 3rd place finish might be Jodie’s highest AWBT result to date. The finals, a single race to 7, would

be a rematch between Susan Wil-liams and Terri Johnson McCauley. Terri had come ever so close in the previous match scratching with only the 8-ball left to go up 4-1 only to lose 5-3. Susan knew she had a dan-gerous foe. The match stayed close up until 3-3 but then Susan pulled away, winning the next four games in a row for the match and the title. Congratulations to Susan on some great runout 8-ball. Congratulations to 2nd place finisher, Terri Johnson McCauley. You played awesome. The 2nd Chance tournament was taken by Jaye Succo, 4-3 over Ali-cia Streenz. We had ten (10) players return for the free tournament and even Co-Director, Kristie, put in her $5 dollars to play. Stingers added $50, bringing the redemption tour-nament prize fund to $145. Jaye re-ceived $75 for 1st, Alicia $45 for 2nd and Rayna Gainey, who traveled with Alicia up from Tucson, got $25 for 3rd.The AWBT would like to thank Stinger’s owner Dale Hanson for hosting and adding a total of $350 to both tournaments. Pool players, come and check out Stinger’s newly remodeled room. With twelve 7’ Di-amonds, two 9’ Diamonds and two Valley bar boxes, Stingers has posi-tioned itself as a major room in the Valley. Thanks to AWBT sponsor Jose Gon-zales and LAS GLORIAS GRILL for adding $100.Thanks to the friends of the AWBT for adding $200. We encourage this type of behavior. Contact Tres Kane if you would like to become a friend of the AWBT.Thanks to my Co-Director Kristie Ortega for all her hard work in mak-ing the tournament run smoothly.

Thanks to Scooter for helping set up and teardown of the tournament.

Good luck to all AWBT members in Vegas. Let ‘em know where you come from. The AWBT’s Stop #3 is Skip ‘n Jan’s in Tempe, June 30th-July 1st. The game is 9-ball on 9’ tables. Come play, have some fun and bring a friend!
