EXTENDING THE EXPERIENCE: TRAMPOWALL SCIENCEThe trampowall finale was such an exciting part of the show! Use this activity to further explore the art and science behind trampoline acrobatics.

1. Have your students individually research the science behind trampolines. Ask them to investigate potential energy and kinetic energy and how combined, they equal total energy. Have them also consider gravity and the way it pulls us to the earth. And don’t forget Newton’s Law of Motion!

2. Break students into small groups (3 - 4 students each). Have each group look further into ONE aspect of trampoline science. Maybe they look deeper into gravity, kinetic energy or something else! Have each group expand their knowledge of this particular area of science outside of how it contributes to trampoline acrobatics.

3. After one class period dedicated to research, ask your students to briefly share out what they’ve learned. Encourage them to present their material in a fun, educational way! For example, maybe they read their report while performing fun acrobatic poses or maybe they present their information by modeling how it works in everyday life (like dropping a pen to show gravity).

BONUS CHALLENGE: Have your students make a miniature trampoline! There are many ways to do this (such as with a stockings or tights, tape and cardboard), but let your students research and experiment! See if in their groups they can present a small-scale production of CATCH ME!

REFLECTION QUESTIONSNow that you know so much about trampolines and the science behind them, what are you most impressed by in the show CATCH ME!? What are some tricks that people do on trampolines? With this new information, how do you think this trick is possible?
