St. Bernadette, Pray For Us
Fr Harry Buseness Christmas is about family? Christmas is about family. I hear this all of the time. And I know that people are happy and excited thinking about seeing family at Christmas time, particularly if family lives far away and if you haven’t seen one another for a good long time. I always look forward to gathering with my family sometime during the Christmas season. There are even Christmas carols written and sung about the reunion of families at Christmas. Christmas is about family. Is It? My concern is that Christmas becomes only about family. Christmas is about the coming of Jesus Christ into the world and into our lives. That is the most important thing about this feast that we will be celebrating in a couple of days. We live in a world that has pushed God out of its life or at least relegated God to a lower priority behind so many things that consume people’s lives. Don’t let that world push Jesus Christ out of your life. Don’t let that world push Jesus back behind those other things. As you plan your Christmas celebrations, begin with when you will attend Mass and with how you will celebrate the spiritual foundation of Christmas in your families. For many years, I was invited to celebrate Christmas Eve with a parish family. This family had the custom of re-enacting the Christmas story in their living room with all of the grandchildren. I remember being in that home and seeing this little pageant in front of the Christmas tree with wrapped gifts that would not be opened until after the pageant was completed. As time passed, the special role of Mary was given to the youngest granddaughter who was physically able to do it. For the rest of their lives, these children will remember their annual Christmas eve ritual and be reminded that Christmas is first and foremost about the coming of Jesus into the world. Yes, Christmas is about family. But even more so, Christmas is about the gift of Jesus sent by the Father as our Savior. A Blessed Christmas to all of you and your families.
Christmas Mass Schedule: December 24, Christmas Eve: 4:00 p.m. December 25, Christmas Day: 8:30 am 6:00 p.m. 10:30 am Midnight With the reduction in priests, we will be having only one Christmas Eve Mass at 4:00 p.m. Since there will be a large crowd at that time, I encourage you to attend the 6:00 p.m. Christmas eve Mass if you can. Feast of the Holy Family, December 29 & 30 New Year’s Day, Solemnity of Mary, Mother God: Regular weekend Schedule Monday, December 31, 2018 5:00 pm Tuesday, January 1, 2019 8:30 am 10:30 am
~Fr. Harry Buse
I would again like to thank all the parishioners who recently responded to the Parish Engagement Survey and attended the town hall meeting. I am working with the parish council and other parish leaders to identify and address the needs, concerns and priorities of our parishioners. In particular, we are looking at engaging more young parishioners, improving our communi-cation efforts and offer more opportunities for spiritual enrichment both at a large and small group level. More information will be forthcoming in the weeks to come.

Merry Christmas to All - Remember the true meaning of Christmas! “Christmas isn’t just a temporal celebration or the memory of a beautiful (event); Christmas is more … Christmas is an encounter!” – Pope Francis “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.” – John 3:16 Coming in January: We are working on several Bible/Faith Formation Studies to be offered beginning in January. Watch for more information to come on these life-giving opportunities. FORMED Registration: Register for FORMED and check out what it has to offer? "Come to me all who are weary..." In a world of chaos and turmoil we yearn for a place of peace and refuge for ourselves and our families. How can we unburden ourselves from our brokenness, fears, anxiety and doubts in a world that overwhelms us? Freedom Through Christ is a program that is designed to reconcile us with the Father through Christ, prayer and the sacraments. Taking responsibility for our past and learning how to leave behind those things that obsess or oppress us, brings us closer to a life that is compatible with God's plan for us. This program is designed to bring us back under the protection of Jesus, Mary, our Church, and our guardian angels. We hope you join us on this exciting adventure as we all become a vibrant part of the Body of Christ. Our next seminar begins on Thursday, January 10th, at Mary Our Queen Church from 7 - 9 pm and runs for 8 weeks. To register: Go online at www.maryourqueenchurch.com/registration, or email Craig & Ann Hagenau: [email protected] or call them at 402-333-5119.

Thanks to the generous support of our parishioners and school families we were able to raise over $31,000 at this years Keeping the Faith. Monies will be used for remodeling the social hall, classroom needs and tuition assistance. As this is a 2 year commitment to chair the event, we are looking for some new people to take over the fundraiser next year. Please contact Fr. Harry if you are interested in helping with this event.
Thank you to all who donated to the Macy’s Christmas. A special thank you to Gary Wesley and the Retail Meat Cutters for their generous donation. Over 100 families benefited from everyone's generosity.
