St. Bernadette, Pray For Us

Fr Harry Buseness

Bible Study and Faith formation offerings New Year’s resolutions. They are popular with some people and are a good way to challenge ourselves to improvement in various parts of our lives. Now that we are finishing the second week of the year. Some of these resolutions might be fading. One resolution some of you might have made is to concentrate more on your spiritual life in this new year. For some, this might mean dedicating more time to daily personal prayer. For others, this might mean being more regular in attending Sunday Mass. For still others, this might mean trying to deepen your spiritual life through bible study or other faith formation opportunities. For the past year or so, a large group of St. Bernadette parishioners has been participating in the ChristLife program. Many of these people participated in all three components, Discovering Christ, Following Christ and Sharing Christ. Furthermore, over the years, there has been growing interest in bible study here at St. Bernadette. In response to this interest and in follow-up to the ChristLife sessions, we are offering three new opportunities for bible study/faith formation in the parish, beginning this month. The first offering is called: Wild Goose. It is an investigation of the activity of the Holy Spirit in your life. It will meet on Mondays at 6:30 p.m., beginning on January 21, 2019. The second offering is called: Mary, a biblical walk with the Blessed Mother. It will investigate Mary’s unique role in God’s kingdom and in our lives. This offering will meet on Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., beginning on January 29, 2019. The third offering is called: Follow Me, meeting Jesus in the gospel of John. This opportunity offers a personal encounter with Jesus through the gospel of John. It will meet on Thursday mornings at 9:00 a.m., beginning on January 31, 2019. All of these offerings respond to the archdiocesan vision as articulated by Archbishop Lucas, “One Church: Encountering Jesus, equipping disciples, living mercy.” They enable us to grow in our personal faith and they prepare us to share that faith with others, as we take more seriously our baptismal call to become missionary disciples in a world badly in need of the presence and message of Jesus. I heartily endorse all of these bible study/faith formation offerings and urge your participation in one of them.

~ Fr. Harry Buse

Vocations

“…FOR MY FLESH IS TRUE FOOD, AND MY BLOOD IS TRUE DRINK.” - Jesus tells His disciples in John Chapter 6. Without priests we cannot continue to be feed the true food and drink of Jesus’ body, blood, sole, and divinity in the Eucharist. Encouraging boys and young men to discern their true calling from God will help ensure our hunger and thirst being satisfied in the years to come. This week pray for Rev. Bill Cremers read his vocations story and biography at https://archomaha.org/vocations/seminary-life/Bill-Cremers/ After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened and the holy Spirit descended upon him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” Are you called for a special mission by God? Contact Father Harry Buse at 402‐731‐4694 or email: [email protected].
