December 8, 2019 — Second Sunday of Advent

St. Bernadette, Pray For Us

Fr Harry Buseness

The Feast of the Immaculate Conception

Today, December 8, is the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This day honors Mary as being conceived with our original sin. This gift was given her in preparation for her role as being the Mother of Jesus, whom she would conceive in her womb by the power of the Holy Spirit. Mary, under the title of the Immaculate Conception, is the patroness of the United States. You might remember that the Basilica in Washington D.C. is dedicated to the Immaculate Conception. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is a Holy Day of Obligation. However, it may not replace a Sunday of Advent in the liturgical year. Thus, the feast is transferred to Monday, December 9, this year. Though the feast is transferred, the obligation does not apply in this case. However, I encourage you to attend Mass on Monday to observe this great feast of Mary and of our country. Mass will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m. The children of the school will be participating.

Convent Update

During the past couple of weeks, workers have been removing the asbestos from the convent. This had to be done before we are able to begin the demolition process. You should be seeing the convent coming down in the very near future.

End of Year giving

I trust that you have noticed that we are falling behind in our weekly collections. As of November 17, we were $35,871.11 behind our budgeted amount for this fiscal year, beginning July 1, 2019. As we enter the month of December, I ask you to examine your giving for the year, perhaps make up for any months or weeks missed and consider increasing this amount. Many people also get a better sense of their financial situation as they near the end of the year. Others have distributions from retirement accounts available. As you examine your financial and other blessings at this time, I ask you to consider using part of any excess funds at this time of year to support the mission of St. Bernadette Parish. Realizing how generous you have been to special projects in the past couple years, including the latest one, resurfacing of our parking lot, I am grateful for your generosity and humbly ask your cooperation in continuing to fulfill the mission of St. Bernadette Parish. May God bless you.

~Fr Harry Buse

Vocations

“Jesus lives and walks along the paths of ordinary life in order to draw near to everyone ... to heal us of our infirmities and illnesses. I turn now to those who are well disposed to listen to the voice of Christ that rings out in the Church and to understand what their own vocation is. I invite you to listen to and follow Jesus, and to allow yourselves to be transformed interiorly by his words, which “are spirit and life” (Jn 6:62).” Pope Francis For all those especially chosen by Christ to "prepare the way of the Lord" in their hearts and the hearts of His people as priests, brothers and sisters, we pray to the Lord. This week pray for Seminarian Nick Seier. Read his vocations story and biography at https://archomaha.org/vocations/seminary-life/nicholas-seier/ Are you called to be “A herald’s voice in the desert” preparing the way of the Lord in the hearts of His people? If you are considering a vocation to the priesthood or consecrated life, call Father Harry Buse at 402‐731‐4694 or email:
