Of this, approximately $3,300 was applied toward principle, with the rest going toward interest. In 2011, we refinanced with Oxford Bank at a rate of 5.0%. Greeting in the name of our Lord Jesus

Christ! It’s been a month since I’ve been appointed to our church and I want to thank everyone for the love and blessings that you’ve shown to our family. As I enter into the month of August, one of the top priorities in my prayer time is about the spiritual well-being of our church. How can I build our church into one that is spiritually abundant? How can I lead our church in a way that God wants us to go? How can our church be a blessing to others? The list goes on and on. But every morning I come to the Lord with these prayers, I sense that God is more interested in me than the church itself. Is God not interested in our Church? Not at all. 1 Corinthians 6:19 says “Do you not know that your bodies are the temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.” God is interested in you, who is the temple of the Holy Spirit. In Greek, church is described as ecclesia (ἐκκλησία ekklēsia), and this word is not simply referring to a building or institution, but it is more about the people that are called by God, the body of Christ. Therefore, you are the church. It’s not about “I am going to a Church” but it’s about “I am a Church!”

Please know that God is interested in you and He loves you – you are ultimately the Church of Jesus Christ. Therefore, I encourage everyone to take this holy burden. Jesus says to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24) Every single move, every word from our mouths, every act and deed, it all reflects how much we love God. The book of Acts is a short name for “the Acts of the Apostles”, it is a record of the early Christian church, and how the Holy Spirit works through God’s people. The book of Acts ends with chapter 28 but it’s now our turn to continue Acts 29. Let the Gospel of Michigan begin from where we are today. Please find anyone who is in need of our prayer, our support, and our help this month. Let them know God is with them, and He still cares for them. I believe that when we truly live as a church, the great work of God will happen in our life, our church, and our community. May the Lord be with us through this month as we proclaim, “Yes Lord, I am a Church” In Christ’s Love Your Servant, Won

Sunday School It’s hard to believe school as well as Sunday School will begin in a little over a month. That means school supplies are out and on sale. The Sunday School is looking for supplies to restock our cupboards for this year. We are in need of: glue sticks, Elmer’s glue, colored construction paper (all colors), scissors, finger paints, paper plates, cotton balls, craft sticks, washable markers, and yarn. Donated items can be placed in the Sunday School office. Thank you for your continued support.

Back To The Books Carriage Town Ministries is offering the opportunity to participate in Back to the Books again this year. The new school year is quickly approaching, and many children are going to start school without the necessary clothing and school supplies. You can make a difference for one of these children. For a donation of merely $45 to Carriage Town Ministries, they will be able to purchase the following items: a school uniform shirt, school uniform pants, shoes and socks, plus school supplies. Your donation should be sent to Carriage Town Ministries, PO Box 318, Flint MI 48501 and should be received by August 10. Please note on the check in the memo area: Back to the Books. A tax deductible receipt will be mailed to you. Last year, we did this ministry through our church and then sent all donations in. This year you can simply send it directly to Carriage

Cedar Point On August 12, 2015 the teenagers and some willing adults will be heading to Cedar Point for a day of fun in the sun and rollercoasters. We will be leaving the church at 6:00 AM and returning by Midnight. The cost is $50 which includes park entry. Teens should bring $$ for 3 meals and any souvenirs they might want to bring home. We could still use some more adult drivers and chaperones in order to ensure that everyone has a safe and fun Cedar Point experience. Additionally, chaperones get their park ticket paid for and their gas covered. Please, ask yourself if God is calling you to drive, ride some rides, and enjoy the company of teenagers for a fun day this summer. These things do not happen without you, the church.

Fall Into Something New…9/13/15 I hate to be the first to suggest it, but Fall is around the corner. Fall inevitably means change, leaves, new experiences at school, and a change of pace around the church. We have experienced a lot of change already this year as a church, so why not change a little bit more. Sunday School In the Methodist Youth Fellowship will be splitting our group by grade during our Sunday School hour. This year we will have Junior High Schoolers (6-8) and High Schoolers (9-12) meeting in separate classrooms. In order to do this, we have had to gather, recruit, beg adults to share the love of Jesus with our teenagers. Sunday School is our youth ministry’s primary teaching time. We believe that throughout

Fall, cont. from Page 3 Town. If you have questions, feel free to contact Cindy at [email protected] or call 810-233-8787.

Another Way To Reach Out In Mission We will be collecting school supplies here at church that would be suitable for students in Kindergarten through 6th grade. See Joy Rossman if you need ideas or call her at 810-636-2791. All items need to be at the church by Sunday, August 9. So watch for the bus box at church!

the years participating in Sunday school will both lay a faith foundation, while simultaneously encouraging growth and examination of one’s faith. We do this with not only teaching, but in a small group context we build our faith and share our lives. This is where you adults come in. Adults assume the role of small group leaders, building relationships and helping our students explore their faith, through sharing our lives together. Are you interested in being a part of something great that God is doing in our church? See Eric Carlson. Youth Group - Sunday Night Youth Group will kick off on September 13. We are adding another change to our Sunday Night Youth Group meeting. We are going to reduce our meeting time by a half hour. In the past we have met from 6:00 - 7:30. THIS YEAR we will meet from 6:00 - 7:00. It will be a packed hour of power!!

In 2013, the Pastie Committee was approached by Pastor Jeremy to see if we would be willing to sponsor sending youth to church camp. It was decided to sponsor two youth from our church and two from Bethel UMC in Flint. We budgeted $1600 for this purpose. The first year one youth from our church attended church camp. The second year (2014) one youth from our church and two youths from Bethel UMC attended camp. This year, we have six youth from

our church and 2 youth from Bethel UMC church attending United Methodist affiliated camps. The cost to send youth this year was $2030. The majority of the youth attended the Bay Shore camping experiences in Sebewaing, but one attended a Faith, Fun Arts camp and two went to United Methodist Camp and Retreat Centers. The Pastie Committee is pleased to be part of this ministry.

Super Days of Camping Made

Possible By The Pastie Crew

Dear Goodrich UMC, Many thanks to the Pastie Committee and many thanks to all of you who support them. Your ministry has made a wonderful impact on Flint: Bethel UMC. In 2014, at your invitation, we sent two children to Judson Collins camp sponsored by your church. It took me months to convince any children to attend. Many were unfamiliar with camping. Others had never left the inner city. In the end two accepted, one being my own son. The boys who went were so blessed that they came back and spread the word. This year 15 Bethel children/youth attended UMC camps! This is a direct result of the seeds that you have planted, and through your support lives have been touched. The first two who went last year had a great impact on the rest, thanks to your generous gifts. The fear of the unknown has been dispelled and replaced by a historic blessing for Bethel: this is the most kids we have seen attend UMC camps in over 30 years. And, it all began with your invitation. Thank you for investing in the lives of Bethel’s children, who truly needed the spiritual and financial support. Thank you for sponsoring two more youth who attended UMC camps this summer as well. These scholarships went to committed families who otherwise lacked the resources to offer their children this life enriching experience. In Christ, Rev. Faith Green Timmons Bethel UMC, Pastor

The Goodrich United Methodist Women are sponsoring a day of information about human trafficking, modern day slavery. All are invited, especially those who are in contact with young people who may fall victim to trafficking through the internet. Teachers and youth leaders are often the first to notice changes in a young person who may become a target.

This seminar is open to all on September 26 from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM at Goodrich UMC. A donation of $15 covers the program and lunch. To reserve a spot or volunteer as a greeter, contact the church office (810.636.2444), Lynn Hoffman (810.636.2682) or Joy Rossman (810.636.2791)

Hope to see you again next year.

We are excited to begin this three phase program in which we, as a church, voted to participate. The first phase includes creating Home and Away Teams that will participate in reading the list of books assigned to us and meeting monthly with other churches. The Away Team will be traveling to Bay City Grace UMC on October 10 to meet for the first time with the other churches also going through the process. They will then return home and meet with the Home Team to discuss what they have learned. The process continues with the team sharing with the whole church what insights they have gained as they go through this first Phase and prepare for Phase II. This experience will help our team learn key concepts and best practices – tapping into the discoveries of other effective churches and church leaders. As a result, our church will develop a cadre of leaders to help it more effectively carry out its mission and become more fruitful.

Please pray for our team of leaders as they begin this journey with open hearts and open minds. Please pray that our team will be fed and led by the holy spirit to ignite our church. Keep this list of people handy so that you can pray for each individual over the many months the first phase will take. Away Team Rev. The Vital Church Initiative

Begins At Our Church This Fall

Have you found yourself just singing? Are you looking for a way to spend time connecting with God or serve in ministry for God? Whichever, Chancel Choir can be just the answer to feed your soul! We invite anyone 9th grade through adult. We have some exciting new music this year! I know that schedules get full but I’m asking you to take a small time slot out one night a week to make God happy with the gift of voice He gave you! We practice Wednesday nights from 7-8:15 PM. If you are gone part of the year, that's ok, come when you can. Our rehearsals start for this season on Wednesday, Sept. 2. Child care is provided for all rehearsals and services we sing for. We usually sing 2 Sundays per month during the 9:25 service and this year we will prepare a Christmas Pageant Cantata along with the Sunday School for Dec. 13! It’s a great time of Christian fellowship as we serve God with music. Please call Sandy Martin at 810-694-2190 if you want more info about choir or want to come join in the fun.
