These oc- casions are important to reflect on the process that led to Argentina taking its future in its own hands and on its two centuries of proud history as an inde- pendent nation. Examples of that proud heritage and of the quality and diversity that Argen- tina has to offer in the field of the arts, culture and sports, could be found in the present Bulletin. They range from the par- ticipation of world recog- nized artists like Jorge Macchi in the Sydney Bi- ennale to the start of the participation of our na- tional rugby union team, Los Pumas, in the Rugby Championship, which re- places the Three Nations Cup and puts Argentina in the major leagues of world rugby together with Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. Argentines around the

world are preparing to

celebrate Independence

Day on July 9th, and in

Australia community

groups will organize

events to get together both

our community and our

Latin American brothers

The Argentine film “The Aura” directed by Fabián Bielinsky will be screened at the Tuggeranong Arts Centre in the framework of the World Cinema Ses-sions that is taking place from May to December 2012, on last Tuesday of each month.

This multi-award winning film is about a quiet, cynical taxidermist with a photographic memory, who suffers epilepsy attacks and is obsessed with committing the perfect crime. Finally an accident and fate present him with the opportunity to commit it.

The movie cycle “World Cinema Sessions” is sponsored by this Embassy, among other Diplomatic Missions participating in this event.

The Argentine National Rugby Team “Los Pumas” will play its first game against the Australian N a t i o n a l R u g b y T e am “Wallabies” on 15 September at

the Gold Coast. Los Pumas is competing against Australia, New Zealand and South Africa in the Rugby Championships 2012. The tournament, which replaces the Three Nations Cup, will start on 18 August and will finish on 6 October. Each team is playing the other twice on a home and away basis.

Prof. Gerardo Dirie nominated for

the Art Music Awards 2012 The Art Music Awards are presented each year by the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) and the Australian Music Centre to recognise achievement in the composition, performance, education and pres-entation of Australian music.

We are very pleased to announce that Prof. Gerardo Dirié, who is an Argentine composer as well as the Head of Music Studies at the Queensland Conservato-

rium in Brisbane was selected as a finalist for the Art Music Awards 2012 in the category of Work of the Year: Vocal/Choral for “the delicate vocal writing featured in Pomegranate Friends”.

National Day Celebration in Canberra

The National Day on 25 May started with a flag raising ceremony held at the Latin American Plaza in Canberra where the national anthem was sung and Ambassador Pedro Villagra Delgado referred to the importance and meaning of this date for Argentina and Latin America. Head of Mis-sions of other Latin American countries and members of our local com-munity where present.

In the afternoon the Embassy hosted the traditional reception for the Australian authorities and members of the Diplomatic Corps. The recep-tion was livened up by the performance of tango band “Alturas”.

CHILDREN’S INTERNATIONAL THEME ART EXHIBITION

The Embassy is pleased to inform you that NUNDIARTE, the International Museum of Children’s and Youth’s Art situated in Avellaneda (Buenos Aires Province, Argentina) is inviting children and young people (5-17 years old) to participate in the I International Exhibition of Theme Art that will be held in October 2012.
