Birkenhead Park FC: Our HistoryBirkenhead Park Football Club has a proud heritage of being the cornerstone of Wirral and British rugby for many years. Founded in 1871, BPFC is one of the oldest clubs in the world and has produced 48 international players and 6 British Lions. In years gone by the Upper Park has hosted matches for England, Wales, Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand.

Today BPFC continues to develop both on the pitch and in the local community. The current men’s 1st XV and women’s 1st XV national league postions are the result of determined efforts in developing local talent. The club currently boasts 5 senior men’s and 2 senior women’s teams, a colts, juniors and minis section and over 500 members.

Our club membership numbers continue to grow year on year and we aim to extend our reach to the local community and provide a stable platform and opportunities for more young local people. We have been very fortunate to have developed a growing base of loyal sponsors and supporters. As we continue to grow we are confident that our sponsorship and fundraising will, too.

Birkenhead Park PANTHERSThe ‘Panthers’ is the proud name of our women’s section at Birkenhead Park FC. The women have played an integral part of club life since they affiliated to the RFUW in the 2009/10 season. Initially entering the friendly league structure, they have enjoyed unparalleled success ever since, winning the National Challenge league in 2010/11 and losing only one game since promotion to the National Championship North 2 league in the 2011/2012 season.

The Panthers are entirely self-funding and have enjoyed the support of a multitude of local and national businesses in terms of sponsorship but the real triumph has been in the development of their players: less than 20% of the team had ever picked up a rugby ball before joining the Panthers but those same players now make up the backbone of the Cheshire squad and two players were chosen to represent the North of England this season. The Panthers won the prestigious RFU President’s XV Award in 2010 in the Girl Power category and their head coach, Duncan Meehan, was Merseyside’s Coach of the Year 2011. The Panthers are looking to replicate their success with junior sections this coming season and are always keen to hear from new players for all age grades including the new RFU under 13s section. BPFC MINIS AND JUNIORSBPFC Junior Rugby section introduces rugby to children from the age of 9 years old and aims to develop the skills and knowledge required to play full 15 a side rugby. The Junior Section is comprised of Under 10, Under 11, Under 12, and Under 13, each with its own rules structured to introduce different aspects of the game matched to the development ability of the age group. The emphasis being to develop the skills all within the ‘Spirit Of Rugby’ through purposeful but enjoyable development.

Supervision of training and matches is undertaken by qualified CRB-checked coaches and we encourage players, parents and supporters to get involved, both on and off the field, helping to generate a strong team spirit and create a welcoming club atmosphere for the enjoyment and benefit of all.

We look forward to the new season and hope to build upon the success of recent years. We are always keen to speak to sponsors who would like to support us in building a strong mini and junior section through active community involvement.

BPFC JUNIOR AND SENIOR COLTSBPFC Colts section comprises of Under 17, Under 18 and Under 19 age groups and competes in the Raging Bull Northwest Colts league and Cheshire Cup competitions.

Our aim is to provide an opportunity for the next generation of young adults to play rugby whilst developing the necessary skills to be successful both on and off the field. BPFC has provided a stable platform for many young children from all different backgrounds and playing abilities, providing focus, discipline, and structure, and encouraging teamwork and loyalty. We take great pride in helping many of our players grow and mature in the safe environment of the club and continue to play senior rugby for BPFC.

We are keen to keep growing our current crop of players, giving them the opportunity to take the next step toward senior rugby and hopefully producing the future stars of Birkenhead Park FC 1st XV.
