This document provides step-by-step instructions for how to check, understand and resolve potential issues with your Basic PBX solution the moment they come up, so you are enabled to troubleshoot without having to wait for technical assistance.

System Problem Probable Cause ActionSystem power failure.

No Power.

System is in a locked up state.

Check if the power switch is on.

Check if other equipment in the office is working.

Unplug the system and plug other equipment to check if that specific plug has power.

If the system has a visible fuse, switch the power off at the switch and check the fuse. Report if blown.

Switch power off at the power switch and switch on after 10 seconds.

Exchange lines do not work(no dial tone).

Lines locked up in the system. Reset the system, by switching the power off at the power switch and switching on after 10 seconds.

If it is a multi-shelf system, make sure that all the shelves are switched off and on.

Analogue Telephone Problem Probable Cause Action

Telephone does not work. Faulty telephone.

Cable problem.

Try a working telephone in its position.

Plug the telephone into another telephone extension port that has been verified as working.

Try a working telephone in its position. If the telephone does not work, the cable is faulty.

Digital Terminal (LDP) ProblemIdentified by LDP prefix in name underneath terminal

Probable Cause Action

Terminal does not work. Faulty telephone .

Cable problem.

Try a working LDP terminal in its position. If the replacement terminal works, the original instrument is faulty.

Try a working LDP terminal in its position. If the terminal does not work, the cable is faulty.

IP Terminal ProblemIdentified by LIP prefix in name underneath terminal

Probable Cause Action

Terminal does not work. Power Supply faulty.

Faulty terminal.

Cable problem.

If it is a non-POE terminal, replace the power supply with a similar working supply. If the terminal now works, the supply is faulty.

Try a working terminal in its position. If the replacement terminal works, the original terminal is faulty.

Try a working terminal in its position. If the replacement terminal does not work, the LAN port is faulty.

Cordless Extension Problem Probable Cause ActionWireless keysets and handsets do not work.

Terminals have no power.

Handset batteries power is low.

Handset has gone outof range.

Check the power cord from the terminal to the wall socket.

Check the display on the wireless handsets. If the power level is low, place the phone on the charger and make sure the charger is powered up.

Check the display on the handset to see if it says “Out of range”. Move closer to the base station.

PC Based Equipment Problem Probable Cause Action

PC / monitor not working. No power. Check if the power switch is on.

Check if other equipment in the office is working.

Unplug PC and plug other equipment to check if that specific plug has power.
