STONY HILL
NATURE TRAIL
Welcome to the Stony Hill Nature
Trail. The trail is 1.6 miles and takes
approximately 1 hour from start to fin-
ish. Parts of the trail are steep as it
climbs 184 feet to a lookout point at the
top with a view of the Brule River Val-
ley. Along the way the way there will
be guides to the natural and cultural
history of the Brule River State Forest.
At the fork in the trail, follow the trail
clockwise up the gradual slope and
learn about the area from past to pre-
sent. For a more strenuous hike, fol-
low the trail counter clockwise and let
our guides take you back in time. Ei-
ther way, take time to rest and learn
about one of Wisconsin’s first state
forests and the river that has been
called Mad River, Bois Brule, and the
River of Presidents among others.
