Bachelor of Hospitality Business with Honours

PROGRAMME INFORMATIONThis is the first and only Hospitality Business degree programme in Singapore’s local university scene. The curriculum was developed in collaboration with the hospitality industry to address the competencies needed to prepare graduates for a management career in the industry.

This programme aspires to educate and develop the next generation of constructive, transformational leaders for both the local and global hospitality markets. Towards this end, there is an intertwining of rigorous academic content with practical insight. Relevant applications and local contextualisation will be embedded in all modules. Such purposefulness and consistency serve to build and cement students’ mindfulness and astuteness on a range of hospitality aspects.

CURRICULUM STRUCTUREFor Year One, the objective is to establish students’ cognitive foundation and introduce them to the main sectors in the hospitality industry. The focus is on the operations of a hospitality business which includes a four-month industrial attachment.

Year Two will address the management of a hospitality business. The focus is to increase students’ bandwidth of business competency and deepen their knowledge in the domains of their selected Industry Specialisations.

The eight-month Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP), which begins at the end of the second year, will allow students to gain up-to-date experience, preparing them for the selection of Functional Specialisations and providing them with the opportunity to identify the Capstone Project topic.

Functional Specialisations in Year Three will further facilitate students’ professional development in specific fields. The final year also marks a culmination of their learning experience through an applied research Capstone Project for students to combine theoretical and practical knowledge in a real case scenario. In Year Three, students will gain the business acumen needed for management roles in a hospitality business.

PROGRAMME HIGHLIGHTSHospitality expertise with a solid foundation of business knowledge: Hospitality businesses, like all enterprises, are essentially revenue centres. Thus, it is imperative that students gain capabilities relating to profitability and sustainability.

The integration of hospitality and business modules will cultivate students’ commercial acumen, facilitate their cross-functional versatility and boost their professional nimbleness.

Industry-relevant, application-based curriculum: To align with SIT’s pioneering role in applied learning at the university level, the programme will include a large hands-on component and a high level of industry involvement. Industry projects will be used extensively for planning and execution. Graduates of the Hospitality Business programme can expect to develop strong operational skills anchored in solid theoretical knowledge.

INTEGRATED WORK STUDY PROGRAMME (IWSP)As an increase in productivity is largely driven through innovation, the eight-month IWSP provides a platform for students to integrate work experience with classroom concurrently identifying and initiating innovative Capstone projects under the guidance of SIT mentors and company-based supervisors. The results of the Capstone projects will also benefit host companies. IWSP is designed to fulfil a collection of learning outcomes:

• Application of theoretical concepts and practical comprehension;

• Expansion of knowledge in actual operations and management matters;

• Proposal of implementable, inventive solutions for workplace challenges.

INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCEAt the end of Year Three, students may embark on an International Experience. Students will beable to learn first-hand the practices of hospitality businesses overseas and gain cross-cultural awareness as well as broaden their horizons.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSDiploma holders from any of the five polytechnics and A-level graduates are welcome to apply. Subject to approval, diploma holders may apply for appropriate module exemptions on a voluntary basis. SIT will consider exemption requests based on educational qualifications.
