During the 17th century, the Christian faith was brought to Korea through the zeal of lay persons. From the very be-ginning, these Christians suffered terrible persecutions and many suffered martyrdom during the 19th century. Today's feast honors a group of 103 martyrs. Notable of these were An-drew Kim Taegon, the first Korean priest, and the lay apostle, Paul Chong Hasang. Also among the Korean martyrs were three bishops and seven priests, but for the most part they were heroic laity, men and women, married and single of all ages. They were can-onized by Pope John Paul II on May 6, 1984.

176. We often hear that ours is “a society without fathers”. In

Western culture, the father figure is said to be symbolically absent,

missing or vanished. Manhood itself seems to be called into ques-

tion. The result has been an understandable confusion. “At first,

this was perceived as a liberation: liberation from the father as

master, from the father as the representative of a law imposed

from without, from the father as the arbiter of his children’s hap-

piness and an obstacle to the emancipation and autonomy of

young people. In some homes authoritarianism once reigned and,

at times, even oppression”. Yet, “as often happens, one goes from

one extreme to the other. In our day, the problem no longer seems

to be the overbearing presence of the father so much as his ab-

sence, his not being there. Fathers are often so caught up in them-

selves and their work, and at times in their own self-fulfilment,

that they neglect their families. They leave the little ones and the

young to themselves”. The presence of the father, and hence his

authority, is also impacted by the amount of time given over to the

communications and entertainment media. Nowadays authority is

often considered suspect and adults treated with impertinence.

They themselves become uncertain and so fail to offer sure and

solid guidance to their children. A reversal of the roles of parents

and children is unhealthy, since it hinders the proper process of

development that children need to experience, and it denies them

the love and guidance needed to mature.

177. God sets the father in the family so that by the gifts of his

masculinity he can be “close to his wife and share everything, joy

and sorrow, hope and hardship. And to be close to his children as

they grow – when they play and when they work, when they are

carefree and when they are distressed, when they are talkative and

when they are silent, when they are daring and when they are

afraid, when they stray and when they get back on the right path.

To be a father who is always present. When I say ‘present’, I do not

mean ‘controlling’. Fathers who are too controlling overshadow

their children, they don’t let them develop”. Some fathers feel they

are useless or unnecessary, but the fact is that “children need to

find a father waiting for them when they return home with their

problems. They may try hard not to admit it, not to show it, but

they need it”. It is not good for children to lack a father and to

grow up before they are ready.

178. Some couples are unable to have children. We know that this

can be a cause of real suffering for them. At the same time, we

know that “marriage was not instituted solely for the procreation

of children… Even in cases where, despite the intense desire of the

spouses, there are no children, marriage still retains its character

of being a whole manner and communion of life, and preserves its

value and indissolubility”. So too, “motherhood is not a solely bio-

logical reality, but is expressed in diverse ways”.

176. Se dice que nuestra sociedad es una « sociedad sin padres ». En la

cultura occidental, la figura del padre estaría simbólicamente ausente,

desviada, desvanecida. Aun la virilidad pareciera cuestionada. Se ha

producido una comprensible confusión, porque « en un primer momen-

to esto se percibió como una liberación: liberación del padre-patrón, del

padre como representante de la ley que se impone desde fuera, del pa-

dre como censor de la felicidad de los hijos y obstáculo a la emancipa-

ción y autonomía de los jóvenes. A veces, en el pasado, en algunas casas,

reinaba el autoritarismo, en ciertos casos nada menos que el maltrato

».Pero, « como sucede con frecuencia, se pasa de un extremo a otro. El

problema de nuestros días no parece ser ya tanto la presencia entrome-

tida del padre, sino más bien su ausencia, el hecho de no estar presente.

El padre está algunas veces tan concentrado en sí mismo y en su traba-

jo, y a veces en sus propias realizaciones individuales, que olvida incluso

a la familia. Y deja solos a los pequeños y a los jóvenes ». La presencia

paterna, y por tanto su autoridad, se ve afectada también por el tiempo

cada vez mayor que se dedica a los medios de comunicación y a la tecno-

logía de la distracción. Hoy, además, la autoridad está puesta bajo sos-

pecha y los adultos son crudamente cuestionados. Ellos mismos aban-

donan las certezas y por eso no dan orientaciones seguras y bien funda-

das a sus hijos. No es sano que se intercambien los roles entre padres e

hijos, lo cual daña el adecuado proceso de maduración que los niños

necesitan recorrer y les niega un amor orientador que les ayude a madurar.

177. Dios pone al padre en la familia para que, con las características

valiosas de su masculinidad, « sea cercano a la esposa, para compartir

todo, alegrías y dolores, cansancios y esperanzas. Y que sea cercano a

los hijos en su crecimiento: cuando juegan y cuando tienen ocupaciones,

cuando están despreocupados y cuando están angustiados, cuando se

expresan y cuando son taciturnos, cuando se lanzan y cuando tienen

miedo, cuando dan un paso equivocado y cuando vuelven a encontrar el

camino; padre presente, siempre. Decir presente no es lo mismo que

decir controlador. Porque los padres demasiado controladores anulan a

los hijos ». Algunos padres se sienten inútiles o innecesarios, pero la

verdad es que « los hijos necesitan encontrar un padre que los espera

cuando regresan de sus fracasos. Harán de todo por no admitirlo, para

no hacerlo ver, pero lo necesitan ». No es bueno que los niños se que

den sin padres y así dejen de ser niños antes de tiempo.

178. Muchas parejas de esposos no pueden tener hijos. Sabemos lo mu-

cho que se sufre por ello. Por otro lado, sabemos también que « el ma-

trimonio no ha sido instituido solamente para la procreación […] Por

ello, aunque la prole, tan deseada, muchas veces falte, el matrimonio,

como amistad y comunión de la vida toda, sigue existiendo y conserva

su valor e indisolubilidad ». Además, « la maternidad no es una realidad

exclusivamente biológica, sino que se expresa de diversas maneras ».

REFLECTION

Book of Exodus 32: 7-11.13-14; First Letter to Timothy 1:12-17; Saint Luke 15: 1-32.

This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.

People in love have the capacity of doing unsuspected things, sometimes beyond their apparent weaknesses or priorities. If

you observe a person in love, you would notice the amount of time and effort the person would spend towards the one the person loves. For

example, a mother will go through great extent to ensure that her child is well cared for and well provided, regardless whether the child is

grateful to the mother or not. A father would not hesitate to rescue his child who fell in to a river, even though he does not know to swim and

may be at risk of drowning (this is an example of our father Founder to illustrate the meaning of Mystical Affliction). A teacher spends lots of

time helping a child to gain a better grasp of his lessons, as the child is a slow learner and the teacher loves the child and wants him to do well

in life, without caring about what others think. Love can certainly make people do unexpected, heroic or crazy things.

In today’s Gospel we see examples of how love can abruptly change people’s behavior. We are told that a shepherd leaves ninety-nine sheep to

go after the one that is lost and a woman goes in search for the lost tenth drachma all over the house. A person attuned to the ways of the world

may be thinking: Are you crazy? Way risk losing the other sheep just to look out for one? Why to go through all the trouble looking for that

drachma when you already have the other nine? But the fact is that God’s ways are different form our ways and He loves without limit. He is

prepared to go all out and endure suffering, seek and find that one which is lost.

Some of us may think that the best thing to do would be to let these sort of people carry on with whatever they are doing and we too carry on

with our own lives. Most frequent diagnosis: We wash out our hands because we do not feel it possible, worthwhile or necessary

to bring them or rescue them. But this is where God shows us the true meaning of love. He never gives up even when we choose to give up.

He never stops loving even when we may feel as if it is impossible to love anymore. Such is our God, the most compassionate, the most loving,

and the most merciful, as the parable of the Prodigal Son teaches us.

Sadly, we often represent the prodigal son. We look for freedom away from what we see as restrictive bonds of God’s word and think there is

greater joy in the wiles of the world. Sometimes the children of God turn their backs on Him and return to the world of darkness. This is how

we are. Probably you have heard some version of this classical fable:

There was once a Wolf who got very little to eat because the Dogs of the village were so wide awake and watchful. He was really nothing but

skin and bones, and it made him very downhearted to think of it.

One night this Wolf happened to fall in with a fine fat House Dog who had wandered a little too far from home. The Wolf would gladly have

eaten him then and there, but the House Dog looked strong enough to leave his marks should he try it. So the Wolf spoke very humbly to the

Dog, complimenting him on his fine appearance.

You can be as well-fed as I am if you want to, replied the Dog. Leave the woods; there you live miserably. Why, you have to fight hard for

every bite you get. Follow my example and you will get along beautifully.

What must I do? asked the Wolf.

Hardly anything, answered the House Dog. Chase people who carry canes, bark at beggars, and fawn on the people of the house. In return

you will get tidbits of every kind, chicken bones, choice bits of meat, sugar, cake, and much more beside, not to speak of kind words and ca-

resses.

The Wolf had such a beautiful vision of his coming happiness that he almost wept. But just then he noticed that the hair on the Dog's neck was

worn and the skin was chafed.

What is that on your neck? Nothing at all, replied the Dog. -What! nothing! -Oh, just a trifle! -But please tell me. -Perhaps you see the mark of the collar to which my chain is fastened. -What! A chain! cried the Wolf. Don’t you go wherever you please? -Not always! But what’s the difference? replied the Dog. -All the difference in the world! I don’t care a rap for your feasts and I wouldn’t take all the tender young lambs in the world at that price. And away ran the Wolf to the woods.

The problem is that we fail to recognize our own dignity and that God shares with us His suffering and concerns…this is Mystical Affliction.

Could be a better proof of His trust in us? We share many issues with friends, co-workers and relatives, but this Affliction refers to the

deepest concern of God…and He shares it with us…if we accept it.

Worldly freedom is a powerful and deceitful idol. Like the Israelites in the First Reading, we create idols to worship, hoping that

they would lead us onward to the good life.

Idols are seductive, as they try to represent our desires and ideals, but they in fact enslave us in an eternal frustration of unrealized dreams.

Worse yet, idols can be projected as all-powerful (as the only thing that matters) or used to control others with fear or guilt. One of these idols

is our self-centered freedom. This one is subtler and more wicked than the golden calf in the First Reading.

Idolatry is a temptation of all of humanity in all lands and at all times John Paul II said on Sept. 1, 2004 during the general audience held at

the Vatican. Whoever adores the idol of wealth, power, and success loses his dignity as a human person. Quoting St. Gregory of Nyssa, he

added: As those who trust in the true God receive in themselves the peculiarities of divine nature, so also those who turn to the vanity of idols

become that in which they trust and, from being men, become stones.

Where should we look for freedom? Only in prayer, because a continuous state of prayer liberates our mind of the tyranny of negative thoughts

and our mind from the enslaving desires. The parable of the Prodigal Son highlights God’s respect for true human freedom. The Father does

not force his children to stay indoors nor even compels them to return: He can wait.

Repentance is a returning to our Father’s house through the whole of our lives. We return through contrition, through the conversion of heart

which means a desire to change, the confession of our sins, and a firm decision to improve our life which is paradoxically expressed in sacrifice

and self-giving.

The Second Reading gives us a powerful example of the active mercy of God.

Paul persecuted the church. He hunted down believers, had them arrested and murdered before his conversion on the road to Damascus. He

says he had been a blasphemer, a persecutor, and a radical enemy of Christ. He insists that there was no one worse than him, however, he has

been mercifully treated by the Lord. Why did this happen? Because Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinner, of whom I am the first.

Paul affirms that God used him as an example to show how great is his magnanimity. If someone like him, an enemy of the faith, the chief of

sinners, has received mercy, will someone be still afraid that God will treat him severely?

It is true that Paul was not so guilty because he acted out of ignorance in his unbelief; likewise, the people of Israel returned to pagan idolatry

out of ignorance and the sheep of in today’s Gospel has been lost due to a mistake… for this the Lord was understanding. What did the Israel-

ites do to deserve God’s mercy? Nothing. They were silent. The Lord did everything by himself: he remembered that his promises are uncondi-

tional and he forgives his people.

Is it perhaps someone sins in a different way? Is there someone who, when he sins, really knows what he is doing? Father, forgive these peo-

ple! They don't know what they're doing (Lk 23:34).

I recently had a conversation with an honest, active and supportive person. I believe that he was sincere when he said he could not remember a

recent fault or even his dominant defect…but he agreed on the many possible sins of omission, which are more difficult to detect. I think that

the parable of the lost coin reflects the concern of our Heavenly Father both for the lost and disoriented people and for the forgotten talents of

the righteous ones…the sins of omission of those like you and me, who do not believe ourselves to be like the Publicans or the prostitutes.

Remember that of the three parables are aimed at the Pharisees and the scribes, not the disciples, nor the sinners, but the righteous. These are

called to conversion with these parables.

The mark of a married woman was a head-dress made of ten silver coins linked together by a silver chain. It was the equivalent of a wedding

ring. To lose one of these coins was very significant. In this story, the coin represents a human soul. As the woman made a diligent and anxious

search for her lost piece of money, so Almighty God seeks the recovery of his children who are lost in sin, and also the put in activity and start-

up of forgotten talents that have been given to us for the good of our brothers and the benefit of the Kingdom.

In the parable of the Prodigal Son, we see in his elder brother the same lack of conscience and awareness of his sins of

omission. Why? Because he was already doing good things. But his soul was not innocent, he was not living a fulfilling life, because

he had hidden intentions and motivations:

- When his younger brother returned, he became angry with the same bitterness of the Pharisees, who saw God’s acceptance of sinners as a

violation of covenant justice.

- The elder son omits the polite address, “Father,” used by the younger son. Look, all these years I served you and not once did I disobey your

orders; yet you never gave me even a young goat to feast on with my friends. The language is harsh and bitter.

- He is not willing to celebrate a feast with his father and with his family, but only with his friends.

- And this lack of innocence distorts his vision of his own life and his brother’s life: But when your son returns, who swallowed up your prop-

erty with prostitutes… It is remarkable here that the imagination of the elder son supplies a morbid version of the younger son’s life which the

narrative itself has not given.

Each human soul is precious to Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father, who wants both of them, all of us, the seemingly just and the apparently

incurable sinners to be happy.

REFLEXIÓN

Éxodo 32: 7-11.13-14; Primera Carta a Timoteo 1:12-17; San Lucas 15: 1-32.

Este hombre acoge a los pecadores y come con ellos.

Las personas enamoradas tienen la capacidad de hacer cosas insospechadas, a veces más allá de sus debilidades o priori-

dades aparentes. Si observamos a una persona enamorada, notamos la cantidad de tiempo y esfuerzo que esa persona dedica a la persona

que ama. Por ejemplo, una madre hará todo lo posible para asegurarse de que su hijo esté bien cuidado y provisto, independientemente de si el

niño está agradecido o no con la madre. Un padre no dudaría en rescatar a su hijo que cayó al río, aunque él mismo no supiese nadar y corriera

el riesgo de ahogarse (este es un ejemplo de nuestro padre Fundador para ilustrar el significado de Aflicción Mística). Un maestro dedica mu-

cho tiempo a ayudar a un niño a comprender bien sus lecciones, si observa que el niño aprende demasiado despacio, y realmente ama al niño y

quiere que le vaya bien en la vida, sin importarle lo que otros piensen. El amor ciertamente puede hacer que las personas hagan cosas inespera-

das, heroicas o locas.

En el Evangelio de hoy vemos ejemplos de cómo el amor puede cambiar radicalmente el comportamiento de las personas. Se nos cuenta que un

pastor deja noventa y nueve ovejas para ir tras la perdida y una mujer busca por toda la casa la décima dracma perdida. Una persona en sinton-

ía con las formas del mundo pensará: ¿Estás loco? ¿Te arriesgas a perder las otras ovejas sólo por recuperar una? ¿Por qué pasar por todos

los problemas para buscando esa dracma, cuando ya tienes las otras nueve? Pero el hecho es que los caminos de Dios son diferentes de nues-

tros caminos y Él ama sin límites. Está preparado para hacer todo lo posible y soportar el sufrimiento, buscando y encontrando al que está perdido.

Algunos de nosotros podemos pensar que lo mejor que podemos hacer es dejar que este tipo de personas continúen con lo que sea que estén

haciendo y nosotros también sigamos con nuestras propias vidas. El diagnóstico más frecuente es: Nos lavamos las manos porque no

creemos que sea posible, importante o necesario recuperarlos o rescatarlos. Pero aquí es donde Dios nos muestra el verdadero

significado del amor. Él nunca se rinde, incluso cuando nosotros decidimos rendirnos. Él nunca deja de amar, incluso cuando nosotros tene-

mos la impresión de que ya no es posible amar. Así es nuestro Dios, el más compasivo, el más amoroso y el más misericordioso, como nos ense-

ña la parábola del Hijo Pródigo.

Lamentablemente, a menudo somos un reflejo del Hijo Pródigo. Buscamos la libertad fuera de lo que consideramos ataduras restrictivas de la

Palabra de Dios y creemos que hay una mayor alegría en los engaños del mundo. A veces los hijos de Dios le dan la espalda y regresan al mun-

do de las tinieblas. Así es como somos. Probablemente hayas escuchado alguna versión de esta clásica fábula:

Había una vez un Lobo que comía muy poco porque los Perros del pueblo estaban muy despiertos y vigilantes. Realmente no era más que piel y

huesos, y le desanimaba mucho verse así.

Una noche, este Lobo se encontró con un Perro Doméstico gordo y sano que se había alejado un poco de la casa. El Lobo con gusto se lo habría

comido allí mismo, pero el Perro Doméstico parecía lo suficientemente fuerte como para darle una lección si lo intentase. Entonces el Lobo

habló muy humildemente al Perro, felicitándolo por su buena apariencia.

Puedes estar tan bien alimentado como yo si quieres, respondió el Perro. Deja el bosque; allí vives miserablemente ¿Por qué tienes que lu-

char duro por cada bocado que necesites? Sigue mi ejemplo y te irá muy bien.

¿Que debo hacer? preguntó el Lobo.

Prácticamente nada, respondió el Perro Doméstico. Persigue a las personas que llevan bastones, ladra a los mendigos y adula a las personas

de la casa. A cambio, recibirás cositas de todo tipo, huesos de pollo, trozos de carne, azúcar, pastel y mucho más, y no digamos cuántas pala-

bras y caricias amables.

El Lobo tuvo una visión tan hermosa de su felicidad futura que casi lloró. Pero en ese momento notó que el pelo del cuello del perro estaba des-

gastado y la piel irritada.

- ¿Qué tienes en el cuello? - Nada, nada en absoluto, respondió el Perro. - ¿Cómo que nada! - ¡Oh, sólo una pequeña cosita! -Pero, por favor, dime la verdad. -Quizás lo que ves es la marca del collar al que está sujeta mi cadena. - ¡Qué! ¡Una cadena! gritó el Lobo. ¿No puedes ir a donde quieras? - ¡No siempre! ¿Pero qué importa? respondió el Perro. - ¡Importa y mucho! No me interesan tus fiestas para nada y no comería todos los tiernos corderitos del mundo a ese precio. Y el Lobo re-gresó corriendo al bosque.

El problema es que no reconocemos nuestra propia dignidad y que Dios comparte con nosotros su sufrimiento y preocupaciones... esa es la Aflicción Mística. ¿Podría haber una mayor prueba de su confianza en nosotros? Compartimos muchos problemas con amigos, compañeros de trabajo y familiares, pero esta Aflicción se refiere a la preocupación más profunda de Dios... y Él la comparte con nosotros... si lo aceptamos.

La libertad mundana es un ídolo poderoso y engañoso. Al igual que los israelitas en la Primera Lectura, creamos ídolos para adorarlos

con la esperanza de que nos guíen hacia la buena vida.

Los ídolos son seductores, ya que intentan representar nuestros deseos e ideales, pero de hecho nos esclavizan en una eterna frustración de

sueños no realizados. Peor aún, los ídolos pueden aparecer como todopoderosos (como lo único que importa) o usarse para controlar a otros

con miedo o culpa. Uno de estos ídolos es nuestra libertad egocéntrica. Este es más sutil y más malvado que el becerro de oro de la Primera

Lectura.

La idolatría es una tentación de toda la humanidad en todas partes y en todo momento Juan Pablo II dijo el 1 de septiembre de 2004 durante

la audiencia general celebrada en el Vaticano. Quien adora el ídolo de la riqueza, el poder y el éxito pierde su dignidad como persona huma-

na. Citando a San Gregorio de Nisa, agregó: De igual modo que quienes confían en el Dios verdadero reciben en sí mismos las características

de la naturaleza divina, también aquellos que recurren a la vanidad de los ídolos se convierten en aquello en lo que confían y, de ser hom-

bres, se transforman en piedras.

Entonces, ¿dónde debemos buscar la libertad? Sólo en la oración, porque un estado continuo de oración libera nuestra mente de la tiranía de

los pensamientos negativos y nuestra mente de los deseos esclavizadores. La parábola del Hijo Pródigo destaca el respeto de Dios por la verda-

dera libertad humana. El Padre no obliga a sus hijos a quedarse ni los obliga a regresar: sabe esperar.

El arrepentimiento es un regreso a la casa del Padre durante toda nuestra vida. Regresamos a través de la contrición, a través de la conversión

del corazón, lo que significa un deseo de cambio, la confesión de nuestros pecados y una firme decisión de mejorar nuestra vida, que paradóji-

camente se manifiesta en sacrificio y entrega.

La Segunda Lectura nos da un vigoroso ejemplo de la misericordia activa de Dios.

Pablo perseguía a la iglesia. Capturó a los creyentes, los hizo arrestar y asesinar antes de su conversión en el camino a Damasco. Confiesa que

había sido un blasfemo, un perseguidor y un enemigo radical de Cristo. Insiste en que no había nadie peor que él, sin embargo, el Señor lo

trató con misericordia. ¿Por qué fue así? Porque Cristo Jesús vino al mundo para salvar al pecador, de quien soy el primero.

Pablo afirma que Dios lo usó como un ejemplo para mostrar cuán grande es su magnanimidad. Si alguien como él, un enemigo de la fe, el jefe

de los pecadores, ha recibido misericordia, ¿quién tendrá miedo de que Dios lo trate severamente?

Es cierto que Pablo no fue tan culpable porque actuó por ignorancia en su incredulidad; Del mismo modo, el pueblo de Israel regresó a la ido-

latría pagana por ignorancia y la oveja del Evangelio de hoy perdió debido a un error... por eso el Señor fe comprensivo. ¿Qué hicieron los is-

raelitas para merecer la misericordia de Dios? Nada. Permanecieron pasivos. Dios hizo todo por sí mismo: recordó que sus promesas son in-

condicionales y perdonó a su pueblo.

Pero, ¿Alguien peca de una manera diferente? ¿Hay alguien que, cuando peca, realmente sabe lo que está haciendo? ¡Padre, perdónales, por-

que no saben lo que hacen! (Lc 23:34)

Recientemente tuve una conversación con una persona honesta, activa y generosa. Creo que fue sincero cuando dijo que no podía recordar

ninguna falta reciente o incluso su defecto dominante... pero reconoció que podría tener muchos pecados de omisión, que son más difíciles de

detectar. Creo que la parábola de la moneda perdida refleja la preocupación de nuestro Padre Celestial tanto por las personas perdidas y des-

orientadas como por los talentos olvidados de los justos... los pecados de omisión de aquellos como tú y yo, que no creemos ser como los publi-

canos o las prostitutas.

Recordemos que de las tres parábolas están dirigidas a los fariseos y los escribas, no a los discípulos, ni los pecadores, sino a los justos, quienes

son llamados a la conversión con estas parábolas.

La marca de una mujer casada era un tocado hecho con diez monedas de plata unidas por una cadena también de plata. Era el equivalente de

un anillo de bodas. Perder una de estas monedas sería muy significativo. En esta historia, la moneda representa el alma humana. Al igual que

la mujer hizo una búsqueda diligente y ansiosa de su moneda perdida, Dios Todopoderoso busca la recuperación de sus hijos perdidos en el

pecado, y también la actividad y la puesta en marcha de los talentos olvidados que nos han sido dados para el bien de nuestros hermanos y el

beneficio del Reino.

En la parábola del Hijo Pródigo, vemos en el hermano mayor la misma falta de conciencia y reconocimiento de sus pecados

de omisión. ¿Por qué? Porque ya estaba haciendo cosas buenas. Pero su alma no era inocente, no estaba viviendo una vida plena,

pues tenía intenciones y motivaciones ocultas:

- Cuando su hermano menor regresó, se enojó con el mismo resentimiento de los fariseos, quienes vieron la aceptación de los pecadores por

parte de Dios como una violación de la justicia de la Alianza.

- El hijo mayor omite el trato respetuoso cortés, "Padre", utilizado por el hijo menor. Mira, todos estos años te serví y ni una sola vez desobe-

decí tus órdenes; sin embargo, nunca me diste ni un cabrito para festejar con mis amigos. El lenguaje es duro y amargo.

- No está dispuesto a celebrar una fiesta con su padre y su familia, sino sólo con sus amigos.

- Y esta falta de inocencia distorsiona su visión de su propia vida y la de su hermano: Pero cuando tu hijo regresó, quien malgastó su herencia

con prostitutas… Es notable que la imaginación del hijo mayor proporciona una versión más mórbida de la vida de su hermano que la narra-

ción original.

Cada alma humana es preciosa para Jesucristo y nuestro Padre Celestial, que quiere que ambos, todos nosotros, los pecadores aparentemente

justos y los aparentemente incurables seamos felices.
