AYSO EXTRA ProgramWhere and Why we started it?
Top Reasons why Regions and Areas wanted EP‐Type Programs:
To provide competition beyond tournaments To reduce poaching from club To retain players at all divisions To retain volunteers To retain their skilled, dedicated player base To provide more soccer opportunities
4
AYSO EXTRA ProgramWhy we started it?
AYSO EXTRA Program Purpose
To meet the expressed needs of our membership by developing programs and players now and in the future
To meet our external marketplace needs by providing more and diverse programs
To renew and expand our program brand, once again putting AYSO in the forefront of defining youth soccer at all playing levels
Creating a higher level of competition in a controlled environment where AYSO can ensure Player Development is the priority over winning
5
AYSO EXTRA Program Is:
An Internal program coordinated by Areas The opportunity for S/A/Rs to offer a higher level of

EXTRA Concurrent
• Players participate on two teams – one is a standard primary program team
and the other is an EXTRA team.
• EXTRA Concurrent Programs run concurrently with the standard primary program but each game may be played on a different day of the week.
77
EXTRA Side-By-Side• Players participate on one team.
• Games are played side-by-side with the standard primary program games.

Player Selection Process ALL players MUST be registered in eAYSO* prior to
participating in the selection process
* Or have completed the non-registered player form
Well publicized, open tryouts with fair, impartial evaluation of player skills, attitude, sportsmanship
Neutral evaluators select players and form teams, coach may attend and give input if needed
Players notified quickly of results – players not selected are notified first
Evaluation results available to players that request it; strongly recommend for players not selected to reinforce their self-esteem and encourage reapplication 10
11
Neutral EvaluatorsWhy:We need the evaluations to be meaningful
and credible for players and coaches Evaluation process must be applied consistently
across the entire programMinimize differences that will come up, as
much as possibleAvoid any appearance of favoritism or that any
player selection has been pre-determined
11
12
Neutral EvaluatorsWho: R/A/S Coach Administrator, Coach Instructor,
Advanced or higher Certified coaches, where possible, NOT from your Region).
What: Coordinate tryout process, work with Region to confirm players are registered*, and with input if needed from team coach, if known, select team players.
* Or have completed the non-registered player form
Also: Provide feedback to players not selected about their areas of improvement, offer drills or other skill building activities.
12
Non-AYSO Registered Participant Form (In Lieu of Player Registration Form – plus $5 National Fee)
All original & signed forms and $5 per player fees are to be given to the Region/Area Registrar to be sent to the N.O. Registration Department upon completion of the tryout session. Good for one Membership Year.
