STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, in asso- ciation with J and K Academy of Art Culture and Languages organised screen- ing of world famous play 'When We Dead Awaken' written by Henrik Ibsen and directed by India's most cele- brated internationally acclaimed Theatre Director Ratan Thiyam here at Abhinav Theatre. Welcoming the gathering at Abhinav Theatre Jammu, Regional Director ICCR, Balwant Thakur said that as a part of the follow-up of the historic programme 'An Interaction with Ratan Thiyam', it was necessitated that out of the world works of Ratan Thiyam are shown to Jammu theatre lovers and practioners. Though there is no alternative to the live per- formance but at least this ini- tiative of ICCR and J&K Cultural Academy will go a long way in exposing the J and K audiences to the best of the theatre works being produced world over, he added. The play opens with Saktam Lakpa and Sakhenbi. They meet Lamlanba, a hunter, who invites Sakhenbi to go to the mountains with him. One of the guests at the hotel is a mysterious woman dressed in white and accompanied by a nurse. This turns out to be Saktam. She has been mar- ried twice, and has been in a mental hospital. She seems to be in the grip of a "living death", and in a painful con- frontation she accuses Saktam Lakpa of having ruined her life and stolen her soul. For his part he begs her to come back to him so that he can regain his creative power. The two of them go up into the mountains to become lovers again. Near the top they meet Sakhenbi and Lamlanba. A storm blows up, and Sakhenbi and Lamlanba go down the mountain into safety, while Saktam and Saktam Lakpa go on towards the peak, where they die. STATE TIMES NEWS RAJOURI: Army conducted an awareness drive on 'Prevention Measures During Earthquake' at Darhal in Rajouri District on Friday. The locals, school children and promi- nent members of the society attended the lec- ture. The drive was to spread awareness among the villagers about the prevention measures to be taken during earthquake. During the lecture, the locals were briefed about managing cases of fractures and con- trol bleeding in case of accidents due to a earthquake. People were taught about first aid measures to be adopted in such circum- stances and thereby save life and limbs. Mock practice on immediate actions that can be resorted to in the event of an earth quake was conducted to provide practical training to the participants. This initiative was greatly appreciated by the locals and they expressed their gratitude for the knowledge imparted to them. The aim of the drive was to sensitise cadets about the envi- ronment so that they become aware of the depleting natural resources and contribute towards saving them for pos- terity. The participants were felic- itated by the Principal, Government Middle School, Mankot. Speaking on the occasion the Chief Guest con- gratulated all the partici- pants for showing such zeal and enthusiasm, he also applauded the students for their efforts and encouraged them to make the best use of such platform to display their individual talent. DFO Social Forestry Udhampur, Dr. Rajan Singh was the Chief Guest while J M Tharmat, CEPO was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Speaking on the occa- sion, the Chief Guest highlighted the impor- tance of plantation ànd advised the students to not only plant more and more saplings but also look after them for mak- ing the drive a success. Dr. Rajan Singh also acquainted the students with different species of plants and their impor- tance. Stating that students are the best medium for spreading awareness about any important issue, the DFO SF urged them to play an active role in the protection of envi- ronment and asked them to save it for the future generations. During the plantation drive, saplings of several medicinal importance ,ornamental and fruit trees were planted by the Chief Guest , Guest of Honour .All the partici- pants also pledged to plant more and more saplings besides protect- ing the environment for future generations. Principal Chanchal Devi thanked the department for launching plantation drive in the premises of school. She also assured the Chief Guest that all the saplings planted would be taken care of. STATE TIMES NEWS BHADARWAH: Additional Deputy Commissioner Bhadarwah, Mohammad Hanief Malik on Friday con- vened a meeting to review the arrangements for Independence Day celebra- tions. During the meeting, it was informed that the main func- tion will be organised at Government Boys Higher Secondary School where VIP will host the Tricolor and take salute at the march Past by contingents of JKAP, NCC and students from var- ious schools. ADC reviews I-Day arrangement JKEDI to organise training programme from Aug 17 STATE TIMES NEWS JAMMU: Continuing with the series of functions as a part of Swachhta Pakhwara, the National Service Scheme (NSS), Campus Units, University of Jammu on Friday organised Swachhta Abhiyan in the campus in and around the Directorate of Distance Education. A large number of students from Distance Education participated in the drive. Prof. Jasbir Singh, Chairman, NSS Campus Units, while addressing the students, highlighted the importance of the cleanliness and appealed them to spread the message of Swachhta Abhiyan initiated by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Before the start of the event all participants took Swachhta Shapath to devote two hours per week for clean- liness and educate at least 100 people about the Swachhta Abhiyan. They also pledged to take up such drive on regular intervals so that a message goes to the student communi- ty to keep the campus clean. The university canteens and surroundings were also covered under the drive by the students. Prof. Dhian Singh, Director, DDE appealed to the students to take up such type of initiatives on regular basis. In all 73 students partici- pated in the drive. Swachhta Pakhwara: Cleanliness drive organised by NSS at JU NSS volunteers taking a pledge during the programme. STATE TIMES NEWS BUDGAM: J and K State AIDS Control Society in col- laboration with District Health Society, Budgam, organised a training work- shop on HIV/AIDS for ASHAs and FMPHWs here at SDH Chadoora. The workshop covered the front line workers from block Chadoora and Chattergam of district Budgam. This is one of the training workshops out of the several workshops to be held in Nagam, Magam, Budgam, and Beerwah block of Budgam. During the plantationdrive, saplings of severalmedicinal importance,ornamental and fruittrees were planted by theChief Guest , Guest ofHonour .All the partici-pants also pledged toplant more and moresaplings besides protect-ing the environment forfuture generations.

Principal Chanchal Devithanked the departmentfor launching plantationdrive in the premises ofschool.

She also assured theChief Guest that all thesaplings planted would betaken care of. Sham LalSr. Lecturer conductedthe proceedings of the pro-gram.

STATE TIMES NEWSBHADARWAH: AdditionalDeputy CommissionerBhadarwah, MohammadHanief Malik on Friday con-vened a meeting to review thearrangements forIndependence Day celebra-tions.

During the meeting, it wasinformed that the main func-tion will be organised atGovernment Boys HigherSecondary School where VIPwill host the Tricolor andtake salute at the march Pastby contingents of JKAP,NCC and students from var-ious schools. Later a colour-ful cultural programme willbe presented by the schoolchildren on the occasion.

Various other arrange-ments including security,

installation of PublicAddress System, medicare,power and drinking watersupply, sanitation, seatingarrangements were discussedand finalised in the meeting.

ADC directed theInformation Department tostart the day with playing ofshehnai wadan early in themorning. It was also decidedthat the full dress rehearsalsshall be held on August 13 at10:00 AM.

STATE TIMES NEWSJAMMU: Continuing withthe series of functions as apart of Swachhta Pakhwara,the National Service Scheme(NSS), Campus Units,University of Jammu onFriday organised SwachhtaAbhiyan in the campus in andaround the Directorate ofDistance Education.

A large number of studentsfrom Distance Educationparticipated in the drive.

Prof. Jasbir Singh,Chairman, NSS CampusUnits, while addressing thestudents, highlighted theimportance of the cleanlinessand appealed them to spreadthe message of SwachhtaAbhiyan initiated by thePrime Minister NarendraModi.

Before the start of the eventall participants tookSwachhta Shapath to devotetwo hours per week for clean-liness and educate at least

100 people about theSwachhta Abhiyan.

They also pledged to takeup such drive on regularintervals so that a messagegoes to the student communi-ty to keep the campus clean.

The university canteensand surroundings were alsocovered under the drive bythe students.

Prof. Dhian Singh,Director, DDE appealed tothe students to take up suchtype of initiatives on regular

basis. In all 73 students partici-

pated in the drive. The eventwas coordinated by the Dr.Anju Thappa, ProgrammeOfficer, NSS and supportedby Dr. Anupama Vohra,Associate Dean, Departmentof Students Welfare,University of Jammu and Dr.Nisha Jamwal, AssistantProfessor in Hindi andNardeep Kour, Lakshmi andRahul Kundal were also pres-ent on the occasion.

STATE TIMES NEWSBUDGAM: J and K StateAIDS Control Society in col-laboration with DistrictHealth Society, Budgam,organised a training work-shop on HIV/AIDS forASHAs and FMPHWs hereat SDH Chadoora.

The workshop covered thefront line workers from blockChadoora and Chattergam ofdistrict Budgam. This is oneof the training workshopsout of the several workshops

to be held in Nagam,Magam, Budgam, andBeerwah block of Budgam.The front line workersreceived the wholesome train-ing on HIV/AIDS includingthe basics of HIV/AIDS andcrucial issues like injectingdrug use etc.

The programme is beingorganized under the supervi-sion and guidance of DrMushtaq Ahmad Rathar,Project Director, J and KState AIDS Control Society.
