REPORT ON CLEANLINESS CAMPAIGN Swachhta Hi Seva-Cleanliness is ServiceIn order to continue the activities of SwachhtaPakwada the Central Government had initiated ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ Campaign to be undertaken from 15 th Sept., 2017- 2 nd Oct. 2017 across the country. Different activities were drawn that may be undertaken during this campaign. Officers under the Ministry were assigned to visit respective States/UTs so as to oversee implementation of activities under ‘Swachhta Hi Sewa’ Campaign all over the country. As per the Ministry Office Order (vide letter F.No.8-67/2016-EE(Vol.1) Dated 25 th Sept., 2017) ShriTashiWangdi, Director, MoEF&CC had been assigned to visit Mizoram and coordinate with concerned departments for implementation of ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ Campaign. In accordance with the Ministry’s order, on 2 nd Oct., 2017 cleanliness campaign with the theme “Swachhta Hi Seva-Cleanliness is Service” was jointly organized at Aizawl Zoological Park, Sakawrtuichhun by Mizoram Pollution Control Board and Eco-Clubs Mizoram and ENVIS Centre Mizoram with Department of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of Mizoram as the main sponsor. A small function was organized before carrying out cleanliness drive within the park with ShriLiandawla, IFS, Addl. PCCF, Department of Environment, Forests& Climate Change, Govt. of Mizoram as the chairman and ShriTashiWangdi, Director, Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of India as the Chief Guest. The programme commenced with an opening remarks from the chairman. He highlighted the history of SwachhBaharatAbhiyan, its aims and objectives. He stated that Indians are not concerned about cleanliness of our surrounding but focused only on cleanliness of one’s own home. “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” was launched by Prime Minster NarendraModi on 2 nd October, 2014 with an aim to make India clean. This campaign is not only the duty of the Government but it is the duty of every citizen to keep the nation clean,” he said. The Chief Guest delivered a speech thanking the efforts taken in organising such a cleanliness campaign. He stated that North East especially Mizoram is a biodiversity hotspot zone and is blessed with many good things from nature. “Aizawl city, though a small area is inhabited by large number of population that generates much wastes per day. But fortunately around 39% of solid wastes generated are degradable that can put into use. The current waste

REPORT ON CLEANLINESS CAMPAIGN

“Swachhta Hi Seva-Cleanliness is Service”

In order to continue the activities of SwachhtaPakwada the Central Government had

initiated ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ Campaign to be undertaken from 15th Sept., 2017- 2nd Oct. 2017

across the country. Different activities were drawn that may be undertaken during this campaign.

collection system-PPT mode implemented by Aizawl Municipal Corporation is convenient but

open burning of waste still practiced at Tuirial needs to be stopped as this causes health and other

problems to humans, nearby forest and streams/rivers,” he said.

He also highlighted features of Swachhta Hi Seva campaign and some of the

achievements under Swachh Bharat Mission. “Mizoram is a progressive State. You should all

step forward and join hands to achieve the maximum in executing the aims of Swachh Bharat

Mission i.e. to accomplish various goals and fulfill vision and mission of ‘Clean India’ by 2019.”

After inspiring speech from the chief guest, the floor was opened for the participants to

deliver speeches. ShriLalrinmawia, IFS (Rtd.), CCF (Monitoring & Evaluation), Department of

Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of Mizoram and teachers in-charge of eco-clubs

delivered speeches. This was followed with pledge taking by all the participants which was

conducted by Dr. LalramnghakiPachuau, Sc ‘B’, Mizoram Pollution Control Board&

Coordinator, ENVIS Centre, Mizoram. Besides taking verbal pledge in protecting the earth and

its natural environment, signature campaign was also carried out on “Green Pledge”.

The function was concluded with vote of thanks from the chairman.

After the function all the participants picked up plastic wastes like bottles, polythene,

sweet wrappers, etc. inside the park.

The cleanliness campaign was attended by several officers and staff under Department of

Environment, Forests & Climate Change, Govt. of Mizoram, ENVIS Team and eco-clubs from

different school along with their teachers. List of school participating at the programme is

indicated below-
