Report of Activities under “Swachhta Hi Sewa” & Swachhta Award Ceremony on

the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on 2nd October 2017

at

ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar

The Director and staff members of ICAR-Indian Institute of Water Management, Bhubaneswar

in association with teachers, students and volunteers from Pipli Samskrutika Parishad, Pipli, Puri

District, Odisha have actively participated in cleanliness campaign organized inside the main

campus and at front side portion of ICAR-IIWM on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti and Birth

Anniversary of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri ji on 2nd

October 2017 (9.30 AM to 12 Noon) as a part

of celebration of Campaign on “Swachhta Hi Sewa”. Initially, Dr. S.K. Ambast, Director, ICAR-

IIWM, Dr. Buddhadeb Mishra, Former Dean, OUAT, Bhubaneswar & Chief Guest offered

pushpanjali to Mahatma Gandhi ji and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri ji followed by reciting National

Song Vandemataram and Gandhiji’s Bhajan. Director, ICAR-IIWM administered Swachhta

Shapath to all the staff and volunteers from Pipli Samskrutika Parishad. It was followed by

cleanliness operation both inside and outside the main campus. The unwanted plants /weeds and

non biodegradable articles such as plastic and polythene were removed.

In total, six persons were awarded with Swachhta Puraskar-2017 for their excellent efforts in

ensuring their surroundings clean and for their overall initiative and leadership in Swachh Bharat

Abhiyan. The Chief Guest expressed happiness over the combined efforts of ICAR-IIWM and

Pipli Samskrutika Parishad to ensure successful implementation of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

Director, ICAR-IIWM addressed the student volunteers, appreciated their efforts towards

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and they were made aware about the eradication of Parthenium weed to

control asthma and other respiratory diseases. The photographs during Pushpanjali, Swachhta
