Gulfstream G650ER Aircraft Service Change 005
The design change effected by this Aircraft Service Change (ASC) has been classified as Major by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Major Level 1 by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA). The design change data contained herein and effected by this document is approved and accepted by the FAA under FAA Project Number TC8700AT-T and by the EASA under EASA Project number P-EASA-IM.A.169. The design of this ASC is approved by aircraft type design data for installation on aircraft registered for operation in accordance with applicable regulations of the FAA and EASA. The design of an ASC is configured to a standard (green) production aircraft. If spare wires, pin connections or locations called out have been used for another modification, the installing agency must ensure the development, documentation and approval of any required deviations.
The following instructions, in step-by-step form, are written as a guide to perform this ASC. Compliance with safe maintenance practices as defined in the Aircraft Maintenance Manual and FAA or EASA regulations is required.
Gulfstream considers this ASC a means to enhance aircraft capabilities to meet individual operator requirements. The modification is not related to any safety or airworthiness condition.
Subject: Navigation (ATA 34) – Runway Awareness Advisory System (RAAS) – Installation
Purpose / Discussion: This service change is designed to reduce runway incursion events by improving flight crew situational awareness with the introduction of timely aural advisories during taxi, take-off, final approach and landing rollout operations. Advisories are generated by the monitor warning system based on current aircraft position relative to airport runways. The RAAS uses Global Positioning System (GPS) data to determine current aircraft position when compared to the location of airport runways that reside within the internal EGPWS Terrain/Obstacle/Airport Database.
Description / Labor-Hours Required Per Aircraft:
This service change installs the following new hardware and software:
RAAS annunciator / inhibit switch on the center pedestal and associated wiring Loadable Options disk to activate RAAS Aircraft Personality Module (APM) Settings disk for advisory call-outs, distance units, audio levels, and gender selection
Approximately 16 labor-hours will be required for this installation.
