Since more than ten years, Argentina did decide to transform touristic de-velopment into a new political status. This fact was a Milestone for tourism consistent growth. From then on, we did not talk anymore about our po-tentials and did go over to a scenario of concrete measures. With the contribution of the public and private sectors tangible progress was made in diversification of sup-plies, in quality and professionalism, in sustainable activities planning, in investment and infrastructure. That less than 3 million passengers registered in 2003, increased to more than 5 million. Visitors arrive looking for unique and contrasting natural

Inmersive tango from Buenos Aires, the majestic Patagonia glaciers, deli-cious Northern cuisine, the wonder-ful Iguazu falls are some examples of people recommending to friends and family to visit Argentina alter they are back in theire home towns. That postcard diversity calls the entire World to share unique experiences in our extensive territory. “Argentina beats to your rythm” - “Argentina late con vos” -, we say every time we start our country’s tourism promotion. The invitation, vital and vibrant , realizes our engagement as hosts.

Those of us who have the opportunity to be in contact with guests and din-ers from different parts of the world, know that today’s tourists are look-ing to live experiences that facilitate to know idiosyncrasies and personal-ity of the visited country. The tourist wants to see a unique landscape, en-joy different climates, practice active tourism, visit museums and art gal-leries, but in every step in a foreign country, he looks to be in contact with the emotion, with the most distinctive aspects of its culture, like traditions, languages, rituals, and of course, these visited country’s hospitality, the spirit of a good host, flavors and co-lours of regional products, which are

delivered through typical dishes and wines. In this regard, Argentina with its products and hotel services and gas-tronomy has the possibility of a bet-ter positioning in the world. This is the big challenge of the management, working hand in hand with the pub-lic sector. Every foreign tourist that arrives is like an export trade when local products and services are con-sumed, so that the tourism sector is an important employment generator, a very significant aspect for countries like ours that has to impulse sustain-able growth in all regions. . Tourism generates revenue in the host commu-nities on a cross cutting basis.

Argentina, its hospitality and flavors

That is why Argentinas Hotel and Gastronomy Business Federation - established over 70 years ago, with more than 50.000 hotels and restau-rantes members, affiliated in 63 offices – has as an objective to stimulate the positioning of our hotels and restau-rants in the World. This sector works very professionaly. Every day, hotels and restaurants de-velop a high level new gastronomic choice in order to deliver more ser-vices to the guests. Our interest is to support you, to work methodically and on a long term projection with the goal of developing regional econ-omy, products local culinary expres-sions, in order to generate an integral

productive feedback movement, to-gether with hotel and gastronomy Management as important market catalyst. In this frame, we develope different strategies for the positioning of re-gional production, ‘haute cuisine’ and Argentina’s Hotels. One of them is our presence at international fairs. Hotels and restaurants in Argentina generate 500.000 jobs and is par tof the Tour-ism industry that surpasses 7% GDP (Gross Domestic Product) and 7% of employment in Argentina. Our mis-sion, as representative institution of the whole activity, is to develop a long term strategy for the development of this sector and the country.

We are still working in the sector’s

No doubt that our country offers an

From the Tropic to the Antarctic and from the Andes Moun-tains to the Atlantic Ocean, the 24 Argentine provinces cov-er a surface of 3,761,274 square kilometers. The country bor-ders Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil on the North; Uruguay, Río de la Plata, and the Atlantic Ocean in the on the East; Chile and the Atlantic Ocean on the South; and also Chile on the West.An extensive maritime coast lies in the Atlantic Ocean and offers the most visited places such as the most popu-lar coastal city of the country: Mar del Plata. Moving to the South you’ll see the Península de Valdés –a marine fauna heaven— and on the tip of the continent the southernmost city appears: Ushuaia. On the Andes Mountains, the “Aconcagua” –the highest

mountain of the Continent— stands out. It is 6959 meters in height and it has lakes, slopes covered in snow to please any skier and an oasis with production of wines, delicate fruits, olives and sheep. The Pampa plains shelter the richest meat and grain farms that have always epitomized our country; today they be-long to a network of tourism estancias to be in contact with nature and its inhabitants and to enjoy the experience of rural tourism. One of the candidates to become the Wonder of Nature is the largest wetland of the country, the Iguazú Falls –in the Iberá Wetlands— lying in the green littoral and hosting the most colorful carnivals and the most combative fish: the goldfish, the king of sports fishing.

Cordoba Mountains in the center of the country surround lovely landscapes still preserving some of the UNESCO heritage such as the Jesuit Farming Estates. The warm North keeps the old history of our continent sub-merging its cultural roots in the Incas era and keeping them alive on their gastronomy, rites and celebrations. And finally the most cosmopolitan city: Buenos Aires. It is the main entrance door to the country and it is the city where you will find places resembling Madrid, Par-is or Rome, where there will always be someone willing to share a coffee and have a long chat on how to fix the world’s many issues.

Congresses and ConventionsNot only will you find a complete and modern infrastruc-ture when choosing Argentina as the place to plan your business events, but you will also find a variety of alterna-tive activities to make the stay of the attendees more en-joyable.The success of an event –for business or professional rea-sons, for an incentive travel, or to attend a convention or a fair— highly depends on the host destination chosen; the diversity of activities, the quality of the hotels, the food and the entertainment options are a key factor. Argentina offers all these options. So we shouldn’t be surprised because of the fact that Argentina is in position number 19 within the worldwide ranking for business events host countries; this is due to the implementation of the Marketing Plan for Busi-

ness Tourism and all the work being done as a “Country Team” jointly by INPROTUR and its strategic ally: AOCA (Argentine Association of Congresses and Expositions Or-ganizers and Providers).55% of the congresses held in Argentina take place in Bue-nos Aires due to its large hotel accommodation capaci-ty, which has positioned the capital city in the first place among American countries with respect to the amount of international congresses held. Then we have Mar del Plata, Córdoba, Rosario, Mendoza, and a lot of other places within Buenos Aires city, Salta, Santa Fe, Tucumán, Paraná, San Juan, San Luis, La Plata, Neuquén, Ushuaia, Comodoro Rivadavia and Posadas.

BenefitsInternational flights from Europe and other American coun-tries arrive to the airports of Buenos Aires, Salta, Mendoza and Córdoba. What is more, flights departing from Buenos Aires and other local cities can take their passengers direct-ly to the tourist destination; highways and routes also con-nect destinations making traveling by car a journey of only a few hours between the convention center and other tour-ist attractions, which is an added value when deciding the host destination for your future events.

A cosmopolitan and busy city, active all day long and with lovely neighborhoods that evidence a great part of the young 430-years-old city, Buenos Aires is the political, eco-nomic, and cultural capital of Argentina.Buenos Aires is the main entrance to the country and more than five million tourists explore its streets looking for the city’s most widely known icons: the “argentine meat” and the “tango”. Hundreds of good restaurants, grills (where you’ll eat grilled cow, poultry and pork meat), Tango Houses –to combine Buenos Aires music and typical food— meet all these expectations. The city offers a wide variety of accommodation options

due to the intensive growth in the hotel industry with the best international hotel chains and also with the emergence of boutique hotels (many of them as theme hotels) meeting all visitors’ expectations. Moreover, the many ways of connecting Buenos Aires with the rest of the country make the capital city a very flexi-ble option when merging work and a pleasure tra–vel. All these benefits are a good reason to choose Buenos Aires as the host city for a business meeting, a congress or a conven-tion. The events premises offer spaces for big meetings or fairs, but many hotels –4 and 5 stars hotels— have meet-ing rooms for various uses and offer an ideal location in the central points of the capital city to host business meet-

State-of-the-art technology is always present; the only thing that changes is the number of rooms, luxury, or services. Moreover, Buenos Aires offers services to make the organi-zation of events easier by means of a reciprocity agreement subscribed with some countries to agree that those regis-tered to attend congresses and to hire stands in expositions within Argentina are exempt from IVA tax payment. Some of the events that attract visitors every year are the Argentina-Chile Dakar Rally, the Tango World Champi-

ing the 19th century the city’s neighborhoods adopted oth-er city’s identities such as Madrid, in Av.de Mayo; Paris, in Recoleta and Alvear avenue; and Nápoles in La Boca and its Caminito street. Buenos Aires downtown still preserves an aura of the times it was a Spanish Colony -Plaza de Mayo is the main spot- and you can look for San Telmo, the Tango neighborhood, with its cobblestone streets and its many an-tique shops. The most modern and expensive neighborhood is Puerto Madero where the old Docks have been recycled to build

hundreds of places offering delicious local food and to take a walk by the Rio de la Plata river.Green areas are located in Bosques de Palermo –Parque 3 de Febrero—(Palermo woods), the Zoo, the Jardín Botánico (Botanic Garden), the Jardín Japonés (Japanese Garden and Teahouse), the Hipódromo Argentino de Palermo (Palermo Racetrack) and the Campo Argentino de Polo (Argentine Polo field) –where the most important Polo championships take place. All these places are also visitors’ attractions, es-pecially during weekends.

Many characters from history have left their trail in Buenos Aires City and you can walk around to find their steps: Jorge Luis Borges, Evita, Carlos Gardel, As-tor Piazzola and Diego Maradona are part of our na-tional identity.

Meeting CentersOur capital city has three exhibition centers with a total surface greater than 150,000 square meters and state-of-the-art complementary technical services. On the other hand, 4 and 5-star international hotels also offer more than

500 halls with capacity for up to 2,400 people, plus other unconventional rooms.Exhibition centers host big events or fairs with a maxi-mum capacity for 20,000 visitors. Intercontinental and Howard Johnson ho-tels are coming soon; these hotels will have events halls with enough room for 600 to 1000 attendees. A floating ho-tel will also be inaugurated soon.

The province of Buenos Aires is home of outstanding cities surrounded by endless horizons where

tradition of the old world lives on an outstanding harmony with best attributes of modern life

The biggest coastal city within the province of Buenos Ai-res has what it takes to attract visitors during the entire year, but there is no doubt that summer is the best season for Mar del Plata due to its 29 miles of beaches. You can surf, skydive, fish, play golf or tenis, or practice riskier activities such as parachuting, BMX, sandboard, and off-road adventures.Mar del Plata is only 250 miles away from Buenos Aires and it offers ideal options to get there using the highway, but you can also travel by plane in a 40-minutes flight. A total of 150.000 people have attended the 200 meeting events that Mar del Plata hosts every year.Another destination with several options for events is

Pinamar. It has 21.500 hotel beds options of different cat-egories and with equipped halls for events. The city of-fers –among its many options— wide beaches, large pine-woods, fresh air and a big infrastructure to enjoy spare time using tennis courts, golf courses, driving quads and riding horses. If you are looking for a place to organize sports events, the city of Necochea –located in the Atlantic Coast 328 miles away from Buenos Aires— has a long coastline with 44 miles of beaches, a Sports Stadium with capacity for 3000 people and a hall with a seating capacity of 200. Thou-sands of tourists visit Necochea and practice sports fishing in Quequén Grande River, in the lakes or in the coast; they also go on photo safaris and practice rafting, kayaking and

If you continue moving down to the lower end of the At-lantic Coast you will meet the great city of Bahía Blanca: an industrial center with a deep-water port. The city of Bahía Blanca hosts meetings, expositions, busi-ness meetings and fairs. The exhibition hall of Bahía Blanca has a hall and 5 exhi-bition rooms –with comfortable facilities and appropriate

equipment— covering a total surface of 3000 square me-ters and a maximum capacity for 4000 people. The Teatro Municipal (Municipal Theater) is also a good option and, with a capacity for 850 people, it’s one of the most distinguished cultural centers in the city.

Definitely, the argentine littoral represents the ideal frame to organize congresses and conventions and to make un-forgettable incentive trips.Moving south you will find the province of Santa Fe, with Rosario as its main city. Strategically located, Rosario has a busy commercial activity in relation to agriculture and cat-tle raising in the region and is the principal economic cen-ter of the province and the third city in terms of amount of participants on business events every year. The beaches of the Paraná River decorate the city and its coastline offers boulevards surrounded by palms; the buildings and the monuments –like the Flag Monument— make it a special place.

Argentina’s coastal provinces show to the world with its forests, endless wetland, and fertil

meadows where life opens to a broad variety and quantity of animals. Events, congresses and

conventions find there an outstanding quality scenario.

Rosario is a logistic center and its rail networks and road systems complement the airport and provide an easy ac-cess to the city; it is an importante city due to the existence of river transportation and to the activity of its port. Halls and buildings with state-of-the-art technology provide the proper infrastructure to organize fairs and congresses and local service providers are well-known all over the country.Culture and history are a strong element in the city of Posadas, Province of Misiones. The city has daily flights connecting the city with Buenos Aires and it is close to Paraguay’s capital city and the Brazilian South. Not only does it offer rich culture and nature but it also has an ad-ditional charm due to its proximity to the Jesuit Missions.

Santa FeSanta Fe, capital of the city named likewise, is located in the Pampa plains bordered by fabulous streams, lakes, and plentiful rivers that constitute the largest fluvial sys-tem in South America due to its size.Santa Fe, the so-called “City of Conventions” shows its lovely colonial-style buildings and modern constructions. It has high performance centers, a car racing track street circuit, places for aquatic sports competitions –a unique option in South America— exhibition halls, theaters, squares with amphitheaters for open-air music shows and fabulous river-view halls. In Esperanza, 17 miles away from the city, the C.I.C.A.E. exhibition hall was built on an impressive 132ft building. Rosario, great economic and commercial center of Santa Fe, has a total of 25000 square meters in halls and hotels ideal for holding meetings, congresses and conventions. Among these we can find the Centro de Convenciones de la Bolsa de Comercio (Stock Exchange Convention Cen-ter) and the Centro de Convenciones Juan Domingo Perón –former Patio de la Madera— (Juan Domingo Perón Con-vention Center).Another option is the Casino City Center, the biggest place for meetings and entertainment in Latin America. The future complex Puerto de la Música (Port of Music) will definitely make the city a reference point for cultur-al events. It has and auditorium, a school of music and

international polo championship held in December every year: the Argentine Open Polo Championship, where teams with a handicap of 40 are challenged sometimes.Today there are a lot of Polo Schools to learn how to play this sport –or simply to improve your skills- in some estan-cias not very far away from Buenos Aires like Pilar, Ezei-za, Coronel Suárez, Córdoba, Open Door, San Miguel del Monte, Vicente Casares and Los Polvorines. Lear–ning pro-grams can last for a weekend, a week, or a month with prac-tice sessions. Players and companions stay in the same farm

and, in order to make a pleasant stay for everyone, activities are organized for them.

Sports FishingSports fishing can be practiced in Argentina in plain rivers, Mountain Rivers, lakes and lagoons, dams, and in boats or from the sea coast.Fly-fishing is the most used method for trouts fishing in Pa-tagonia. Species fished in National Parks must be put back in the water. Fishing season is in southern summer.

The provinces of Buenos Aires, Santa Fé, Entre Ríos and Corrientes have a wide variety of freshwater fish such as the Sand Smelt (fall and winter) and the goldfish -Dorado- and the surubí (large freshwater catfish), specially in Esqui-na and Paso de la Patria in Corrientes (spring and summer). In the big rivers of Salta, Jujuy, Catamarca, Santiago del Es-tero, Tucumán and La Rioja you can fish surubíes, goldfish, catfish, bogue fish, etc.In the Atlantic Coast you can fish the most popular species such as the blonde and the black sea bass, the sand smelt and the saurel fish. If you fish on a boat you get: lemon fish, jewfish, sea salmon, blue fish, codling, róbalo (a variety of sea bass) and shark. The most varied and good-sized fish are found during summer –sea fishing is allowed through-out the whole year.

RaftingMountain Rivers are the proper scenario for rafting. The most popular rivers for this are the Manso River in Bariloche, the Mendoza River, the Corcovado River in Chubut, the Aluminé River in Neuquén with the most fast-flowing rivers in Patagonia. In the North you will find Juramento River in Salta and Jáchal River in San Juan where there is a scheduled river descent during full-moon nights.

Winter SportsThe Andes Mountains is where all winter sports are prac-ticed. The city of Bariloche, located between magic natural

landscapes, has the earliest and largest ski center in Argen-tina: the Cerro Catedral (Río Negro).Among the most important ski centers we can also men-tion Valle de las Leñas (Mendoza), the Chapelco hills in San Martín de Los Andes (Neuquén), or the southernmost cen-ter in the world: the Cerro Castor in Ushuaia (Tierra del Fuego) with the longest ski season in the country, or La Hoya in Chubut –with a unique landscape filled with lakes, cascades and woods.

Gourmet ArgentinaArgentine meat quality has reached other countries and many visitors come to our country to taste a good “asado” in any part of the country.Speaking of exquisite taste, we have the Cordero Patagóni-co (Patagonian Lamb): its lean meat has a delicate flavour and is the “diva” of the argentine food. It is easy to find this special dish in the patagonic region. No matter what type of meat you choose but you will al-ways need a good wine for a perfect touch. And the best way to find this noble drink features is going along the Ru-tas del Vino (Wine Routes). The wine production areas go parallel to the Andes Moun-tains and cover a total length of more than 1490 miles going south from Río Negro, passing by Neuquén, Mendoza, San Juan, La Rioja, Catamarca and Salta. Some of the many activities offered are: visits to wineries, wine tasting, public wine harvest, lodging in boutique ho-tels inside the wineries and wine therapy.

Rural TourismArgentina has always been known as a rural country. Hundreds of far–ming premises welcome tourists to make them feel real “gauchos” for a while sharing their life and habits.A large amount of farms are distributed along the many provinces where you will find different options such as

19th century castles, big mansions filled with history, modern huts with state-of-the-art accessories, among others. All these places are waiting for you to make you experi-ence the life of a rural worker, to ride a horse, to watch livestock management or sheep shearing and to make cook your own bread and cheese for breakfast.
