National Night Out!!
Your Arbor Greene Neighborhood Watch is sponsoring our first annual “National Night Out” on Tuesday,
August 3rd, from 7-9PM at the Arbor Greene Community Center.
What is National Night Out? It is America's Night Out Against Crime! The "27th Annual National Night Out” is a
unique crime / drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). We cordially
invite you and your family to be a part of our National Night Out (NNO). Tampa Police Department personnel
will be attending our event, including possibly McGruff the Crime Dog, the TPD canine unit, TPD horse unit,
etc. We will be providing security tips on how to keep yourself, your family, and your home safer. We will also
have free refreshments and be giving away security related products. Please feel free to come to the event at
any time between 7-9PM.
According to the NATW, last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic
groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 15,000 communities from all 50 states,
U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases worldwide. In all, over 36 million people participated in National
Night Out 2009.
National Night Out is designed to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for, and partici-
pation in, local anti-crime programs; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and send a
message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
We also encourage residents to join the Arbor Greene Neighborhood Watch Association (NWA) e-mail distribution
group, to receive Tampa Police Department (TPD) reports and notifications about criminal activity in the New
Tampa area.
You will also be given personal and home security tips. If you would like to receive these tips and other relevant data
from the TPD and NWA, please e-mail us at [email protected] to be added to the NWA e-mail dis-
tribution group. Joining this e-mail distribution group does not obligate you to any other NWA activity, but should
help you and your family to become better informed and more secure.
To show your support for National Night Out, we ask you to join in the traditional display of turning on front
and rear outdoor lights. We look forward to seeing you on August 3rd, from 7-9PM at the Arbor Greene
Community Center.

Message from the Arbor Greene HOA
Here are a few highlights from the Arbor Greene Cove-
nants and Design Review Guidelines that each home-
owner should know. All of the documents are posted
online for your review at www.arborgreene.org/arbor-
greene/downloads.html. Your cooperation in keeping
Arbor Greene a neighborhood everyone can enjoy is
appreciated.
Exterior Painting - An Alteration Application MUST
be submitted to the Design Review Board before you
paint the exterior of your home. Prior to approval, a
swatch of the house color and trim color must be
painted on the front of your home so the Design Review
Board members can view the color from the street. A
swatch must be painted and approved even if you are
painting your home the same original color. Failure to
comply may result in fines and/or legal action.
Trash Containers – Trash containers (and yard waste)
may only be placed at the end of driveways after 6pm
the night before pickup and removed as soon as possible
after pickup. At all other times, trash containers must be
stored such that they are screened 100% from view of
the front roadway, adjoining property and common ar-
eas. Please ensure that all lawn and tree trimming debris
is secured in some way to prevent it from getting into
the street.
Watercraft - No Owner may store or park a boat, other
watercraft and/or boat trailer within his parcel, except
within a fully-enclosed garage, and provided such stor-
age does not cause a vehicle to be parked on the drive-
way. In all other instances, boats and boat trailers shall
not be stored or parked within the Property or any por-
tion thereof.
Motor Vehicles, Trailers, Etc. - There shall be no out-
side storage or parking within any parcel or within any
portion of the Common Property of any mobile home,
trailer (either with or without wheels), motor home,
tractor, truck, commercial vehicles of any type, camper,
motorized camper or trailer, motorized go-cart or any
other related forms of transportation devices. Vehicles
shall be parked only within Residential Units on paved
surfaces or designated areas and shall not block side-
walks or bike paths.

Back to School
Summer is almost
over and you know
what that means! It’s
school time again!
First day of school is
August 24th for Hills-
borough County. Par-
ents can now exhale
that sigh of relief, sorry kids. But now it’s time to think
about getting the kids (and ourselves) back into the
school mode.
Be Prepared. The best overall advice to get ready for
back to school..start early!! Don’t wait until the Friday
before school starts to get ready.
Clean Out and Refresh. Go through the house. Get rid
of any of last year’s paperwork that you don’t want to
keep. Get rid of any broken craft supplies, such as bro-
ken scissors, pencils, pens, crayons, etc.
Shop Early. Get the school
supply list as early as you
can. Buying things early
gives you the “pick of the
litter!” Also establish a
budget for back-to-school
supplies. Look for special
offers. Take advantage of
sales, coupon offers and the
tax free period, 8/13-8/15.
Get and Stay Healthy. Check with your child’s doctor.
Make sure your child’s immunizations are up-to-date.
Check with coaches about sports physicals. Schedule
those as soon as possible.
Food Rush. Mornings are hectic. Tempt kids with tasty,
yet nutritious, treats. Pack lunches that satisfy kids’
taste buds by choosing healthy snack foods that fit into
all levels of the Food Guide Pyramid. Serve your kids
snacks like sliced apples with peanut butter or carrot
sticks with ranch dip.
Family Time. Family time
counts. Everybody is busy, par-
ents and kids. But a little to-
getherness goes a long way, so
it’s important to find the time to
have a family dinner, watch a
Friday night movie, make Sat-
urday pancakes, or play an eve-
ning game of cards. Most chil-
dren also crave one-on-one time with a parent.

Insurance Rate Changes (Check your policies)
In January 2009, the new CSO (Commissioner’s Stan-
dard Ordinary) mortality rates went into effect, resulting
in a reduction of reserve requirements for life insurance
companies, and a reduction in premiums for most all
new life insurance policies.
If you have a policy dated prior to 2009, your life
insurance company is not going to notify you that
another policy, even with their company, might save
you money. You need to do that yourself. More than a
million people have already done so and secured lower
premiums. You should at least take a look. It costs
nothing and could save you money for years to come.

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT ISSUES HEALTH ADVISORY TO
RESIDENTS - INCREASED MOSQUITO-BORNE DISEASE ACTIVITY IN THE COUNTY
The Hillsborough County Health Department has issued a Mosquito-Borne Illness Advisory for Hillsborough
County. Mosquito-Borne Illness Advisories are issued when animal surveillance data indicates a rise in arbovirus
transmission activity, indicating the increased potential for human infections, or when a locally-acquired single hu-
man case of exotic or endemic arboviral disease has been confirmed. In the past weeks, two horses in Hillsborough
County have tested positive for Eastern Equine Encephalitis, (EEE).
EEE is a rare disease that is caused by a virus spread by infected mosquitoes. EEE virus (EEEV) is one of a group
of mosquito-transmitted viruses that can cause inflammation of the brain. In the United States, approximately 5-10
EEE cases are reported annually
The Hillsborough County Health Department continues to remind residents and visitors to avoid being bitten by
mosquitoes that may cause encephalitis disease. Hillsborough County Mosquito Control and the health department
continue surveillance and prevention efforts and encourage everyone to take basic precautions to help limit expo-
sure by following the Florida Department of Health recommendations.
To reduce the risk of being bitten by mosquitoes, Florida Department of Health, (FDOH) recommends that indi-
viduals remain diligent in their personal prevention efforts. These efforts should include the "5 D's" for prevention:
Dusk and Dawn - Avoid being outdoors when mosquitoes are seeking blood. For many species, this is during the
dusk and dawn hours. Dress - Wear clothing that covers most of your skin. DEET - When the potential exists for
exposure to mosquitoes, repellents containing DEET are recommended. Picaridin and oil of lemon eucalyptus are
other repellent options. Drainage - Check around your home to rid the area of standing water, which is where mos-
quitoes can lay their eggs. Make sure that pools and spas have continuous circulation and appropriate chlorination to
prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.
For more information, please contact Steve Huard, Public Information Officer, 824-8044.

Pedestrian Safety in Arbor Greene
Recently, we have observed residents walking or running on the streets. FSS
316.130 (3) states, “Where sidewalks are provided, no pedestrian shall, unless
required by other circumstances, walk along or upon the portion of a roadway paved
for vehicular traffic.” Running on Arbor Greene’s narrow streets may obstruct
traffic which is a violation of FSS 316.2045.
Walking or running in the street of Arbor Greene is not only a violation, it is
extremely dangerous!! Do you know what the posted speed limit is in Arbor
Greene? Silly question right? No, it’s not! The speed limit in Arbor Greene is
30 MPH, except where otherwise posted. Some drivers in the Community do not
comply with the posted speed limit. Accidents do happen, but abiding by the rules
and walking or running on the sidewalks may prevent some or all of them.
Also, when crossing in a crosswalk, know that pedestrians do have the right of way,
but always make sure the driver is stopping for you.
Here is a list of some safety items to follow:
Use the sidewalks, not the roads to walk or run in the Community.
Cross only at intersections or at crosswalks.
Look both ways twice before attempting to cross a roadway.
Use reflective clothing, shoes, etc. You may not be as visible as you think.
Firmly hold the hand of children before and during crossing a roadway with a child/children.
Wearing headphones may prevent you from hearing a vehicle approaching from the rear.
