Fancy a spot of Spring Cleaning?
Parish Council News
It always upsets me to see how quickly our
roads become littered with cans, bottles and
other junk that people simply throw out of cars
as they pass through our lovely village. Unfor-
tunately, the only option we have to stop these
people spoiling the Plumley roads is to clean
them up ourselves.
The main Problem is Plumley Moor Road itself
from the A556 to the riding Stables, although
the other roads also need attention. So if you
would like to help keep the village looking
clean, please come along to our next litter pick
morning on Saturday 5th April at 10:00am
meeting outside the village stores.
Please bring a high vis vest if you have one
along with a few plastic bin sacks and gloves
are a good idea too. We have a small number
of Litter Pickers (the grab arms) that can be
borrowed for the morning. Please note that as
much of the time may be spent on the verges
of potentially busy roads, this is not something
that is suitable for children to take part in.
Please help if you can. Never has the phrase
"many hands" been more applicable.
Cllr Tony Gabbott

Music Trains 2014 Spring has sprung!
The sun has been shining and our wildlife has started to get out and about! To sup-port the monitoring of our wildlife, why not contribute to some of the national surveys out there?
The Ladybird Survey: There are 46 spe-cies of ladybird resident in Britain and a new type – the Harlequin ladybird has arrived. The Harlequin Ladybird Survey will monitor its spread across Britain and assess its impact on native ladybirds. Find out more and record your sightings here: www.ladybird-survey.org
The Wildflower Survey: simply devise
your own 1km walk within your allocated 1km square and record what you see from a list of common wild flowers. You can register for the 2014 survey here: www.plantlife.org.uk.
You’ll then receive a survey pack and you can enter your results by post or online.
If you took part in the Big Garden Bird-watch in January look out for the results at the end of March here:

The play explores the lives of four pensioners wintering in a seedy hotel in Majorca; pretence and de-ception are rife and when a young couple who have booked into the hotel by mistake arrive, the many layers of deceit peel away with increasing speed. ‘A superb evening of riotous entertainment from start to end’, the Stage. The play will take place at Plumley Village Hall on 24, 25 and 26 April. Tickets priced £8.00, concessions £6.00 (Thursday per-formance only), will be available in due course. Performances will start at 7.30 pm.

Thanks to the Newsletter I was grateful that the Homewatch Alert in the last newsletter told me of the incident relating to bank cards.
Well, dear Reader, it was tried on me. A phone call purporting to be a Police Detec-tive said he had arrested someone who had my bank cards. The caller asked for confir-mation of my bank details.
Having read the article, alarm bells rang. I said I would ring him back. I immediately rang the local Police. It was clear from the police enquiries then made that it was a
bogus call...and that fortunately I hadn’t given my bank card details. In a similar inci-dent I know that someone had £2000 taken from their account so I feel rather pleased with myself.
If something like this happens to you, my suggestion is that you ask the ‘bogus’ caller for their police badge number and their con-tact phone number and then ring the police on 101 straightaway for them to check whether or not things are OK.
I am grateful for Jane Thirk’s (Knutsford Police) article...but please be on you guard.

Outreach Programme
Manchester Airport Outreach programme We want to make sure our neighbours are able to discuss any issues/concerns relating to Manchester Airport. Feedback tells us that opportunities to discuss a concern or Trust Fund Application in person are valued; we have been attending Knutsford Library on a weekly basis for fourteen years to facilitate such opportunity.
On Thursday 1st May we will again be in Plumley Village Hall between 16:00 and 19:00 hrs if you would like to speak to us; or of course you could attend our regular Out-reach at Knutsford Library on a Tuesday (09:30-17:00 hrs or 12:00-19:00 hrs on the first Tuesday of each month providing we are not Outreaching elsewhere) for details please see www.manchesterairport.co.uk/keepingintouch
Dog Fouling
In general Plumley dog owners are responsi-ble people, however, it has been brought the attention of the Parish Council that there is a dog or dogs roaming the village, fouling in resident s gardens.
We politely ask that residents do not allow their dogs out alone and that when walking their dogs on or off the lead they clean up
after them. Thank you.

New members are always welcome.
This year is an important year for Plumley WI as it is 60 years since Plumley WI’s first ever meeting, which took place at The Golden Pheasant in February 1954. At that first meet-ing, members enjoyed a talk on millinery using paper and felt; followed by a half hour social of games.
This year, members are looking forward to a varied programme of events including not only interesting monthly speakers, but also monthly walks, darts matches, quizzes, theatre visits and competitions. In January, the group en-joyed an interesting talk given by Tony Davies entitled “The Tabley Lads Who Never Came Home” which was about 9 young men who worked on the Tabley Estate and fought dur-ing the First World War, and in February we celebrated our 60th birthday in style with Bucks Fizz, nibbles and a fantastic birthday cake! The year has got off to a great start, but there is still much to look forward to.
Already, some of our members are thinking about plans for the Cheshire Show in June, and in August there will be a garden party. Talks later in the year include such topics as: salt mining in Northwich, canal restoration and female special agents.
It is also a special time for the WI organisation as a whole, and a number of events will be taking place over 2014 and 2015 to mark the WI’s centenary. Celebrations began on Janu-ary 1st with a specially designed centenary baton beginning its mission of being passed around every federation in England and Wales. - It was at sites within the Cheshire Federation between 5th – 12th February and members of Plumley WI participated in the festivities when the baton was at Lower With-ington Village Hall between 2pm and 4pm on
6th February. Christine Barwell

Rural Touring Arts
The Second Minute, will be showing on Sunday 1st June.
During the First World War around nine-teen thousand mailbags crossed the chan-
nel every single day and the art of letter writing enveloped the country.
To mark the centenary of the First World War, Nottingham Playhouse have created
their first rural touring show for over a decade with Nottingham writer Andy Bar-rett.
Based on research into the letter collection
form the archive of the Sherwood Forest-ers regiment, this simply staged poignant and uplifting new show weaves together
heroic, comic and heartbreaking tales of soldiers and families through their own words. And in doing so explores how this
most elemental and vanishing form of communication managed to hold the coun-try together whilst a generation of men
was being destroyed.
Suitable for age 11+. Tickets will be £8 available from Plumley Village Stores or Penny Allen 722259 soon.
