Hello everybody! Now that spring has begun we arenow set for the flux of Spring Breakers in the county. They seem to be doing a fair job of keeping therowdy radical people away from other families while

on the beaches. I know the people running Walton County want us all to have a safe, funfilled time when we are at the Beaches and the surrounding areas. P lease do your part inhelping it remain clean from debris and garbage.

Don’t hesitate to ask the visitor’s to do the same with their garbage. We have all seenhow ugly and disgusting the beach looks with litter everywhere. Besides, all of that couldend up in the ocean making it difficult for sea life to survive here. Thank you for yourconcern with this.

I would like to chat with you a moment. It has been brought to my attention that some-one is contacting the businesses advertising in this newspaper. The call and E-mails werenot flattering to say the least. If you got a problem with me, then come bring it to me. Youspread lies and false statements about me as if my business of helping others is wrong?Really? When you shop at a local market. Do you ask the owner his opinion of religion or

how he was raised up? I didn’t think so. Many of you go by what others say instead oflearning about someone from yourself. Why is the guy an asshole to you but not towards anyone else? It could be you are the

problem, right? We read plenty of false or fake news on the web stating this franchise orthis big company doesn’t like Muslims. You think it’s wrong? Then go somewhere elsethat feels the way you do. You have no reason to talk down behind people’s back. Espe-cially around here, rumors travel quicker than the waves in the water. But I ask of youthis? Do you feel so upset that you make false claims and spread lies about someone youknow nothing about to contact businesses to vent your opinion?

That is what I do in my Editorial. I speak about what is on my mind or something cur-rently taking place you may want to know about. The sole purpose of this newspaper is tolet you the reader feel free to express yourself about anything. Get people’s attention tothe bad that is going on. (Not basing it on how someone lives their life). It’s a free worldto be who you want to be. That does not mean that you expect everyone to like you, foryour choice is bothersome to many of the citizens in this county. Sorry, it’s the truth.

And when someone expresses one self online, it can be taken either way. Every one ofus read into words differently because you don’t know whether to believe it or becauseyou don’t like the person who said it. Telling tales is cute, degrading falsely, NOT!

The point being is that I have busted my ass for this city and the promotion of businessesand attract others to our events in our county. Tell me how many businesses you have seenthat are still here after 8yrs? This is one of those businesses.

We invite you as a Free publication, paid for by our advertising customers. Plenty haveseen this newspaper all over both ends of this county. Many E-mails and letters I receive

make me feel good about what I do for you all. I try to help as many as I can through thisavenue of print. I deliver to all areas and have spotters now taking the paper new places.I will say to anyone I catch knocking my name or this business. Be prepared. Be prepared

to back up what you have been doing behind people’s back. I know plenty of you who aremore crooked than a politician but I say nothing, until you do me wrong. Got a beef withme? Come tell me. You may find out your source of information is wrong. Then we cancarry on, letting us represent this area and help the folks find good repair work and otherservices.

So, before you continue trying to destroy something that well over 2000 people enjoyreading and using this as useful notices and such. How about you work on your own life?Make it better. For you are an enigma to this city. Just like most of the bums have movedaway from here for we were exposing the antics they got away with for so many years

before. Guess what? Times are changing fast. Slandering my character or business name isa criminal offense. We will not let this crap carry on. So, wisen’ up. We already knowwho a few of you are. You will be taken to court for this crap talk. I have rights to do whatI do, just as some of you do. However, I put my words in print. Freedom of expression isvaluable thing to have in this rare newspaper.Of all the things there is to write about, this is not one of my favorites. But you want to

mess with me? Let me give a bit of advice….DON’T, underestimate my backing. Now, I am not like most of you. Yet I seem to get numerous compliments from being

brash and tell it as I see it. Many of you seem to appear to agree with me on most topics. From over the years you may feel you know me. I am an honest man trying to help growwith you and this city of Freeport and DFS. We are making history with each Edition.

Someday you may want to write in, I insist you do! Let us keep the people’s voice in thefore-front. That is what sets us apart from any other newspaper. I hope the majority of youare as proud of this newspaper as I know the Mayor and other prominent people in thecounty are too. Spread good news, it may even be about you!

Let’s make this a special unique find of reading, as well as all of the places we have forrelaxing and sitting with friends. Think about a better tomorrow. Dwelling in your own

pity doesn’t make what you say about others right at all. Live free, help someone out.

The top watchdogs in the House demandedto know Tuesday why a personal laptoptaken from a federal building in Washington

state was used to conduct child-support au-dits, especially because it and other stolenhard drives may have contained millions ofnames and Social Security numbers. The letter by the House government over-sight panel's Republican chairman and sen-ior Democrat to Health and Human ServicesSecretary Sylvia Burwell comes about aweek after GOP investigators began lookinginto the breach in Olympia, Washington, which authorities say affected as many asfive million people."Your staff acknowledged that the use of personal equipment is a clear violation ofHHS privacy and security policy," Utah Republican Jason Chaffetz and MarylandDemocrat Elijah Cummings wrote in the letter obtained by The Associated Press. The

break-ins occurred in early February at the federal Office of Child Suppor t Enforce-ment.Chaffetz's committee has been critical of data breaches under the Obama administra-tion, including when the U.S. Office of Personnel Management said last year hackerscommitted an unprecedented theft of private data for millions of federal workers. The letter comes a day after Chaffetz's counterpart in the Senate, Republican Sen.Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, sent a similar message to Burwell asking what specificinformation was on the hard drives, when officials first became aware of the burglar-ies and if the government will notify those

whose datawere stolen. But Chaffetzand Cum-mings alsoquestionedwhy HHSofficialswaitednearly two

months to provide Congress with notification

under the Federal Information Security Manage-ment Act, which they said requires notice nolater than a week after a major incident took

place. They also asked what databases couldhave been accessed. The list went on for almost45 minutes long. Privacy? Now it’s gone.

THE SPOTLIGHT (FORREST WILLIAMS)I had a moment between sets to sit down with

Forrest & Pherrel Williams of The Forrest Williams

Band on Easter Sunday at The Local Catch on 30aSanta Rosa Beach. The energy in the room was incredible as young andold found themselves bouncing and moving to theskillful, intelligent music that was a bigger sound thanyou would expect from this trio. With Josh Fox ondrums, Forrest on guitar/vocals and Pherrel pullingtriple duty playing keys/bass/vocals, these Conway,Ar. Natives have really made an impact on the SouthWalton community.

“Music is a celebration of life! So get up and cele- brate!”( Forrest) That seems to ring true in everythingthey do. Along with playing 4-5 shows a week, theystill take time to give back by helping with benefitswhen they can, Sacred Heart, children with cancerand the list goes on. True, caring, genuine people thatmake a difference with their music.

When asked about musical influences, Forrest hadthis to say. “ I was the only one in my house that

played an instrument, but music was at the core of ourfamily. From James Taylor to James Brown wewould experience the joy of it together. ” He went onto share true musical innovators like Jimi Hendrix

and Joni Mitchell as having an impact that guided thefeel in which he plays.

Once a month, weather permitting, they open therehome to invasion from fans and friends for the Wil-liams Backyard Boogie. Tanning May Limit Ability to Produce Vitamin D

Even those with significant sun exposure can have low levels of thisessential vitamin, research shows

While the sun helps the body make vitamin D, a new study says that toomuch exposure might actually lower the levels of the essential vitamin.Tan skin may provide some protection against the sun's harmful UV rays,

but this increase in pigment blocks vitamin D synthesis and limits theskin's ability to produce vitamin D, according researchers in Brazil."Our findings suggest that skin tanning, which is a natural protectionagainst the harmful effects of UV irradiation, limits the progressive rise inserum vitamin D towards optimal concentrations," .For the study, researchers examined nearly 1,000 males and females from Recife whowere between 13 and 82 years old. All had significant daily sun exposureand none routinely used sunscreen or took vitamin D supplements.Using the Fitzpatrick skin phototype scale, which is a numerical measureof skin color and type used by dermatologists, the researchers assessed theresponse of different skin types to UV light. Generally, higher scoresindicate darker skin tones and the tendency to tan, not burn. The participants' sun index was also calculated by multiplying the numberof hours of sun exposure they got on a weekly basis by the fraction ofexposed skin. The researchers compared the participants' sun index scoresand skin type with their blood level of vitamin D. Most of the participantswith very high daily exposure to the sun had lower-than-normal serumvitamin D levels.Overall, 72 percent of the participants were deficient in vitamin D. Thoselacking this nutrient tended to be older and have lower sun index values, the study found.Watch for mole spots or even darker areas can be a sign of melanoma.

A BETTER SOUTH WALTON SEEKS PUBLIC INPUT ON THE FUTURE OF SOUTH WALTON“Community input is critical to us as we move forward,” said A Better South Walton Vice President Dave Rauschkolb. ABetter South Walton, Inc. (ABSW), a nonprofit organization founded to seek more effective governance and localrepresentation for South Walton, is a volunteer group of individuals concerned about the future of South Walton. Alongwith exploring South Walton’s options, ABSW has created a survey to be distributed throughout the community todetermine the issues most important to the citizens and what they value. The survey will provide citizens with theopportunity to weigh in on infrastructure, governmental representation, natural resources, public services, the builtenvironment and more.“We want the people of South Walton to have a voice and be heard,” said Rauschkolb. “The complexities of preservingand managing a growing South Walton are evident. I can think of no more urgent issue than our working together tosecure a future for our community we can all be proud of, a future to hand off to our children and theirs. I believe findingthe best way for our citizens of South Walton to govern South Walton is paramount.” The survey is available on theABSW website at www.abettersouthwalton.org/faq/ and the Facebook page, A Better South Walton. “As our communityhas grown, so has the need to explore the most efficient and responsive ways to provide for our governance,” said DavidPleat, president of ABSW. “Our efforts are ongoing to complete the South Walton Feasibility Study that will providecritical information about our South Walton community to aid in assessing our options.” The South Walton FeasibilityStudy will include detailed, factual information about the community including a conservative analysis of the financialimpact and potential benefits of incorporation as a municipality. After months of searching for experts to author the study and much careful consideration, ABSW has

hired Bill Underwood, of Underwood Management Services Group, Inc. and Jon Moyle of the MoyleLaw Firm to complete the study document. More information about the South Walton Feasibility Studyteam, their backgrounds and areas of expertise can be found by visiting the organization’s new websiteat www.abettersouthwalton.org/the- team/. “Underwood’s strong economic and fiscal analysis back-ground was key to our decision, and Moyle’s deep North Florida roots combined with his extensive workthroughout Florida’s communities made his firm a good choice,” Pleat said. “We are currently finalizingan agreement with the John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government at the University of CentralFlorida to review the study when it is complete. We look forward to bringing a fully vetted andwww.abettersouthwalton.orgP. O. Healthmark Health Matters Allergies that can kill

When most people think of allergies, they think of sinus allergiescaused by pollen or pet dander. While these allergies can make lifemiserable, some allergies can actually be dangerous, even deadly.

Shellfish allergy is an abnormal response by the body's immunesystem to proteins in certain marine animals. Shellfish include shrimp, crab, oysters, lobster, octopus, crayfish, shrimp, squid, clams, snails andscallops. Some people with shellfish allergy react to all shellfish, othersreact to only certain kinds. Reactions range from mild symptoms — such as hives or a stuffy nose — to severe and even life-threatening.

According to researchers at Mayo Clinic, all food allergies are caused by an immune system overreaction that identifies a certain shellfish protein as harmful, triggering the production of antibodies such ashistamine and other chemicals that cause allergy symptoms. Shellfishallergy symptoms generally develop within minutes to an hour of eatingshellfish. They may include hives, swelling of the lips, face, tongue andthroat, wheezing, nasal congestion or trouble breathing, abdominal

pain, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, lightheadedness, faintingand tingling in the mouth. For some people, allergies can cause a se-

vere, potentially life-threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis. Ananaphylactic reaction to shellfish or anything else is a medical emer-gency that requires treatment with an epinephrine (adrenaline) injectionand a trip to the emergency room.

Signs and symptoms of anaphylaxis include a swollen throat or alump in the throat that makes it difficult to breathe, shock, with a severedrop in blood pressure, rapid pulse, dizziness, lightheadedness or a lossof consciousness.

The only sure way to prevent an allergic reaction to shellfish is toavoid shellfish. However, a person may unknowingly come into contactwith shellfish, especially when dining out. A physician may suggestmedications such as antihistamines to reduce signs and symptoms for amild shellfish allergy. However, anyone with a severe allergic reactionto shellfish will likely need an emergency injection of epinephrine(adrenaline). Anyone at risk of having a severe reaction should carryinjectable epinephrine at all times. After using epinephrine, seek emer-gency medical care immediately at Healthmark Regional Medical Cen-ter, 4413 U.S. Hwy. 331 South, in DeFuniak Springs.

CONSUMER ALERT: More Changes tothe National Flood Insurance Program

Take Effect on April 1, 2016 Now is the time to purchase flood insurance in preparation for the upcoming hurricane season

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Insurance CommissionerKevin M. McCarty is alerting consumers to new changestaking effect this Friday, April 1 st with the National FloodInsurance Program (NFIP), while also encouraging consumersto consider purchasing flood insurance for the protection oftheir homes and businesses as they begin making preparationsfor the upcoming hurricane season. Every person living inFlorida is at risk to experience the impacts of flooding.“Although Florida’s hurricane season has been mild over thelast 10 years, it is important that we not forget how easy it isfor one storm to cause a great deal of damage and destructionfrom flooding. Tropical Storm Fay is a good example of astorm that made slow progress through the state leading tomassive flooding problems for several Florida counties back in2008, “ stated McCarty. “Consumers should carefully evaluatetheir insurance coverage now and have a plan in place for thisyear’s hurricane season.” As a result of federal legislative reforms mandated by the

Biggert-Waters Flood Insurance Reform Act of 2012 (Biggert-Waters) and the Homeowner Flood Insurance AffordabilityAct of 2014 (HFIAA), the NFIP changes taking effect on April1 will include price and fee increases for all policies and the

elimination of some subsidies for certain lapsed and reinstatedPre-Flood Insurance Rate Map (Pre-FIRM) policies. On average, Floridians with policies on pre-FIRM primaryresidences could see individual policy increases between 15%- 18%. Certain pre-FIRM policies (including non-primary resi-dential and business properties) may see an increase of 25%.The federal policy fee will increase from $22-$25 for preferred-risk policies and from $45 to $50 for standard-rated policies. The annual HFIAA surcharge, which began last year, willremain at $25 annually for the primary residence of ahomeowner and $250 for non-primary residences andnon-residential properties. For more information, visitwww.floodsmart.gov. Flood insurance is not typically covered under a homeowners

insurance policy and must be purchased separately. Most floodinsurance is administered through the NFIP, but several pri-vate insurance companies in Florida are also now offering thiscoverage at prices similar to or below those of the NFIP, giv-ing Floridians more choices. For flood insurance coverage to

be in effect at the start of hurricane season on June 1, home-owners and businesses should make the purchase by May 1, asa typical policy purchased through the NFIP has a 30 -daywaiting period before it becomes effective.

Consumers can purchase flood insurance from the NFIP,usually directly from their existing insurance agent orcompany. The insurance will cover up to $250,000 in propertydamage to a home and $500,000 to a business, along withadditional contents coverage. Excess flood insurance can be

purchased from a private insurance company for homes and businesses valued at more than $250,000.
